Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming primary education by enabling adaptive, personalized, and interactive learning. This study presents a systematic literature review (SLR) of 54 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2020 and 2024 to explore trends, applications, benefits, and challenges of AI integration in primary education. The review followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines and combined bibliometric and thematic analyses. Biblioshiny was applied to examine publication trends and contributing countries, while VOSviewer visualized keyword co-occurrence and thematic clusters. Results indicate steady growth in research, with China, the United States, and Europe leading contributions. Nine categories of AI applications were identified, particularly machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing. Reported benefits include personalization, improved engagement, inclusive education support, teacher efficiency, and digital literacy development. However, significant challenges remain, such as limited infrastructure, insufficient teacher readiness, financial constraints, and concerns over children’s data privacy. The study concludes that while AI holds strong potential to enhance primary education, successful implementation depends on ecosystem readiness, equitable access, and ethical safeguards. This review contributes by mapping global research trends, consolidating fragmented evidence, and offering practical insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers.

Abstract

This literature study aims to examine trends in research on the development of ethnoscience-based student worksheets through a literature study of relevant articles. Data collected from articles obtained through the PRISMA-based SLR method were analysed based on year of publication, university origin, education level, research model, learning model, ethnoscience context, and worksheet format. The results of the study show that the trend of research on the development of ethnoscience-based worksheets in the field of physics in the period 2020-2025 experienced a significant increase in 2024 with four articles published this year. Senior high school is the educational level that has been the focus of most research, while the ADDIE research development model is the most frequently used model (used in four articles). Interestingly, there is no dominant learning model associated with the development of ethnoscience-based worksheets in physics, which demonstrates the flexibility of the pedagogical approach. The most frequently used ethnoscience context is traditional musical instruments to explain sound wave material. In terms of worksheet format, development is still dominated by print formats (7 studies). In addition, the potential for exploring ethnoscience from various regions is still very large because no region dominantly explores ethnoscience in the reviewed physics worksheet development articles. The implications of this study highlight the need for further exploration at education levels other than senior high school, the development of digital worksheets, and the exploration of ethnoscience contexts from various regions to enrich physics learning that is more contextual and relevant to students.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) in improving students’ statistical graph interpretation skills through a rigorous Item Response Theory (IRT) analysis. Employing a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design, the research involved 120 undergraduate students from four classes, equally divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental groups received TEL-based instruction featuring interactive graph visualizations and automated feedback, while the control groups followed conventional lectures and exercises over seven sessions. Data were collected using a 60-item multiple-choice test covering bar charts, histograms, boxplots, and scatterplots, which was content-validated by experts and trialed for clarity, yielding high reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.833). Construct validity was ensured through unidimensionality and invariance testing, confirmed by eigenvalue and DETECT analysis. Data analysis applied IRT to calibrate item parameters discrimination (a), difficulty (b), and guessing (c) and to estimate students’ latent abilities (θ). Model comparison identified the 3PL model as the best fit, capturing both difficulty variation and guessing behavior. Calibration results showed that most items exhibited satisfactory psychometric quality, supporting the robustness of the instrument. Findings revealed that TEL groups achieved a nearly one-logit gain in ability from pretest to posttest, significantly higher than the minimal improvement observed in the control groups, as confirmed by independent t-tests and normalized gain analysis. These results indicate that TEL substantially strengthens students’ ability to interpret statistical graphs while demonstrating the diagnostic value of IRT in evaluating both item quality and learning effectiveness.
