Abstract

This study aims to review the effectiveness of differentiated learning based on learning styles in increasing interest in learning science through a systematic literature review. The research method used the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) approach, in which 1,264 initial articles were identified through various international and national databases, then screened through stages of eliminating duplication, screening based on title and abstract relevance, and feasibility testing based on full content. From this selection, 76 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed in depth. The results of the study indicate that differentiated learning can significantly increase student interest in learning by increasing intrinsic motivation, active involvement in the learning process, and creating an inclusive and responsive learning environment to individual needs. In addition, differentiated learning is in line with the principles of the Independent Curriculum which focuses on personalized and flexible learning, thus providing opportunities for students to learn according to their styles and needs. Therefore, it is recommended that elementary school teachers implement differentiated learning strategies in a planned and sustainable manner by considering the variety of students' learning styles. This step is expected to optimize interest, motivation, and the quality of science learning, so that learning becomes more meaningful, enjoyable, and relevant for each student.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the key 21st-century skills that need to be developed from primary education onwards, requiring a learning approach tailored to students' needs and characteristics, one of which is differentiated learning. This study aims to analyse the application of differentiated learning in developing critical thinking skills in elementary school students, identify the challenges of its implementation, and explore learning adaptation strategies during the 2020–2024 period. The study used a qualitative approach with a systematic review method of relevant national and international journal articles, which were collected through structured literature searches, selected based on specific criteria, and analysed thematically. The results of the study show that differentiated learning generally contributes positively to increasing student engagement, conceptual understanding, and critical thinking skills because it allows teachers to tailor learning to the readiness, interests, and learning styles of students. However, its implementation still faces various obstacles, such as limitations in teachers' pedagogical competencies, planning time, and learning facility support, especially in the context of online and hybrid learning. This study concludes that differentiated learning has great potential as an adaptive learning strategy in improving the critical thinking skills of elementary school students. Therefore, policy support, ongoing training, and professional guidance are needed to ensure optimal and sustainable implementation.

Abstract

The integration of computational thinking (CT) into elementary education is increasingly viewed as essential for developing students' problem-solving and digital literacy skills. However, effective implementation of CT-based instruction through coding remains varied in practice. This study aims to synthesise empirical evidence on how coding supports CT development in primary school students. A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, with an initial identification of 1145 records from Scopus and Google Scholar. After removing 104 duplicates, 1041 titles and abstracts were screened, and 113 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility. Based on the inclusion criteria, five empirical studies published between 2021 and 2025 were selected. Thematic analysis revealed that instructional approaches such as unplugged activities, educational robotics, and pair programming effectively enhanced core CT skills—abstraction, decomposition, and algorithmic thinking—while also promoting student engagement and collaboration. However, persistent barriers include limited teacher readiness, inadequate assessment tools, and unequal access to technology. The study concludes that early exposure to structured coding interventions positively influences CT development. To ensure sustainability and equity, future efforts must focus on teacher training, culturally responsive pedagogy, and integration of CT into the broader curriculum. This review provides a focused synthesis that can guide educational stakeholders in designing and supporting effective CT instruction at the primary level.

Kata Kunci : Learning continuum, Klasifikasi makhluk hidup, level kesukaran, Guru ABSTRACT This study aims to compile a learning continuum grid related to aspects of the classification of living things based on the opinions of junior high school science teachers and high school biology teachers in terms of difficulty level. The learning continuum grid is expected to be one of the considerations in preparing and developing curricula in Indonesia. This research is a descriptive study using a survey method that was carried out in five cities/districts in the province of D.I. Yogyakarta, namely the City of Yogyakarta, Sleman Regency, Kulonprogo Regency, Gunung Kidul Regency, and Bantul Regency. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire that was distributed online via Google Forms. Respondents who were involved in this study were 111 respondents from junior high school science teachers and high school biology teachers who were selected using a convenience sampling technique. The data in this study were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The results showed that the learning continuum grid related to aspects of the classification of living things which was compiled based on the opinions of junior high school science teachers and high school biology teachers did not show any level of difficulty. This indicates that junior high school science teachers and high school biology teachers still have not considered the compatibility between the level of difficulty and the level of development and education level of students. Therefore it is necessary to carry out further research involving expert opinion, in this case, the Biology Education lecturer then followed by conducting FGDs (Focus Group Discussions) between teachers and lecturers to discuss and consider the results that have been obtained. Keywords : Learning continuum, the classification of living things, difficulty level, teacher

Abstract

The photovoltaic experiment provided a simple, affordable method to determine Planck’s constant through empirical learning. This experiment allowed students to present concrete data using easily available, low-cost materials. The experiment utilised a photovoltaic method, employing a simple, self-designed setup that used three laser pointers with wavelengths of 650nm (red), 535nm (green), and 405nm (blue) as independent variables. A 6V, 1W mini solar cell was used as the target, while the speed of light and electron charge were treated as control variables. The laser pointers were powered by a 3V battery. The data were analysed by plotting the relationship between 1/λ (inverse wavelength) and the measured voltage as the dependent variable. A linear regression analysis was performed to obtain the gradient, which was used to calculate Planck’s constant. The experiment yielded a calculated Planck’s constant of 7.09×10-35Js, with a deviation of 5.69 x 10-34Js, resulting in a relative error of 8.89%. This relative error could be attributed to several factors, including refraction effects caused by the glass layer and adhesive used to protect the semiconductor plate of the solar cell, as well as discrepancies between the actual wavelengths of the laser beams and the labelled wavelengths on the laser pointers.

Abstract

The integration of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) has been increasingly promoted to support both academic achievement and character development in primary education. However, systematic evidence on the application of SEL-based PBL in elementary social studies learning remains limited. This study aims to review research trends and empirical findings on the implementation of SEL-based PBL in elementary schools from 2020 to 2025. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Data were collected from Scopus, SINTA, ScienceDirect, and Publish or Perish (PoP) databases. From 103,090 identified records, 33 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using bibliometric and content analysis supported by VOSviewer. The findings indicate that SEL-based PBL consistently improves students’ social-emotional skills, emotional intelligence, character, collaboration, learning motivation, and academic outcomes. Bibliometric mapping shows a growing focus on 21st-century skills and emotional regulation since 2022. However, this review reveals research gaps, particularly the limited focus on social studies, the use of small samples and non-standardized SEL instruments, and the lack of studies on digital or hybrid SEL-based PBL models. Further rigorous and large-scale studies are therefore needed to strengthen the empirical foundation of this approach.
