Abstract

Numeracy skills are an important competency for elementary school students, but Indonesian students' numeracy achievement remains relatively low based on various assessment results. This study aims to map trends in numeracy research and mathematics learning models in elementary schools in the 2020–2025 period and identify research gaps, particularly related to the GEMBIRA Learning Model. This study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA protocol on 997 articles obtained through Google Scholar, resulting in 98 articles analyzed using content and bibliometric analysis with VOSviewer. The results show that numeracy research publications fluctuate with a significant spike in 2025, and are dominated by contextual approaches such as Realistic Mathematics Education, Ethno-RME, ethnomathematics, inquiry, and discovery learning. Bibliometric analysis indicates that numeracy and instructional models are the most dominant themes. However, no empirical studies have been found testing the implementation of the GEMBIRA Learning Model in elementary schools. These findings confirm that GEMBIRA is a potential framework but still wide open for further research.

Abstract

Many elementary students are able to decode written text fluently but struggle to construct coherent narratives with clear sequencing and causal relationships. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a culturally grounded non-text picture storybook to enhance narrative structuring skills among elementary school students. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the Plomp model, consisting of preliminary investigation, design, realization, testing, and implementation phases. The product was developed based on Cirebon’s coastal ethnoscience and tested through a limited trial involving 30 second-grade students, followed by broader implementation with 200 students from ten public elementary schools in Cirebon City, Indonesia. Data were collected through expert validation, practicality questionnaires, pre-test and post-test assessments, and classroom observations. The results indicated that the storybook met high validity standards in terms of content (4.2), media design (4.0), and language (4.0). Practicality ratings from teachers (4.7) and students (4.1) showed positive user responses. Quantitative findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ narrative structuring skills, with a large effect size. The study concludes that integrating visual scaffolding with culturally relevant content effectively strengthens students’ ability to organize and express narratives. Abstract

Research skills are an important competency in higher education, but various findings indicate that these skills are still developing unevenly among students. This study aims to examine the relationship between STEM-based science learning integrated with the Research Skill Development (RSD) framework and students' research skill achievement compared to conventional learning. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control-group design involving 120 third-semester students in the science education study program at a university, who were divided into two experimental and two control classes. The experimental group received STEM learning structured according to the RSD stages and supported by a structured assessment rubric. In contrast, the control group followed the usual lecture-and-assignment-based learning practices. Data were collected using a research skills test developed in line with the RSD framework, then analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Mann–Whitney U test. The pretest results showed no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.445). In contrast, significant differences were found in posttest 1 (p = 0.030), posttest 2 (p = 0.010), and posttest 3 (p = 0.011), with the experimental group's average score increasing from 39.7 to 59.1 and the control group's from 37.1 to 54.7. These findings suggest a short-term performance advantage associated with STEM–RSD implementation, depending on the cohort and the instrument used.

Abstract

Organic waste management in schools remains a persistent environmental challenge that affects hygiene, air quality, and the overall learning climate. In many schools, organic waste is still burned or buried, reflecting limited ecological literacy and insufficient technical capacity to convert waste into productive resources. At the same time, the integration of entrepreneurship education within science learning remains underdeveloped. This community service programme introduced a school-based organic waste management innovation through the P4-E approach (Training, Practice Implementation, Marketing, and Evaluation) to develop greenpreneurship among science teachers and students. The programme involved 50 participants from the Science Teachers’ Working Group (MGMP IPA) and SMP Negeri 1 Slawi, Tegal Regency. Activities included EM-4 biofermentation compost training, practical compost production and packaging, digital marketing development, and financial management mentoring. Findings indicate substantial improvement in ecological awareness, technical composting skills, and entrepreneurial capacity. Participants demonstrated the ability to produce market-ready compost products and implement digital promotion strategies. The P4-E approach functioned as an integrative empowerment model that linked science education, environmental action, and entrepreneurship development. The programme contributes to advancing SDGs 4, 8, 12, and 13 by institutionalizing sustainable waste management practices within the school context.
