Abstract

A comprehensive literature review to investigate halal and Islamic businesses in sustainable tourism destinations. The study focuses on a growing but fragmented literature linking halal tourism, Islamic entrepreneurship, MSME innovation, digital capacity, community empowerment, and sustainable destination competitiveness. Although halal tourism has received increasing academic attention, previous studies have largely focused on the tourist experience, halal attributes, Islamic marketing, certification, and sustainability as separate themes, so the entrepreneurial mechanisms underlying sustainable halal tourism have not been satisfactorily synthesized. This study uses a systematic literature review technique complemented by bibliometric and thematic analysis of Scopus indexed articles. According to the data, research on halal and Islamic entrepreneurship in sustainable tourism destinations increased between 2017 and 2025 with Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand making significant contributions. Based on thematic analysis, the main topics include sustainability, tourism development, innovation, community-based tourism, and sustainable entrepreneurship, while halal and Islamic entrepreneurship are still underrepresented in mainstream sustainable tourism research. The study concludes that halal and Islamic entrepreneurship should be positioned not only as business activities in accordance with religious teachings, but also as an ethical and entrepreneurial ecosystem that connects Islamic values, MSME innovation, digital transformation, community empowerment, halal assurance, and sustainable destination governance. This research contributes by presenting a comprehensive research agenda to expand halal tourism as a model for inclusive destination development.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the key technologies driving digital transformation in various sectors, including tourism entrepreneurship. Although research on AI continues to grow, studies that specifically map its development, applications, benefits, and challenges in tourism entrepreneurship remain relatively limited. Therefore, this study aims to systematically review the literature on AI in tourism entrepreneurship using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach combined with bibliometric analysis. Research data were obtained from the Scopus database, covering the period 2020–2026. The article selection process follows PRISMA 2020 guidelines, and bibliometric analysis is conducted using VOSviewer to map publication trends, author collaboration networks, and relationships among keywords. The results show that publications on AI in entrepreneurship have increased significantly in recent years, with contributions from developed countries and journals focusing on innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. Keyword analysis identified that the most studied AI applications include machine learning, natural language processing, chatbots, and generative AI such as ChatGPT. In addition, AI has been proven to deliver benefits such as increased operational efficiency, data-driven decision-making, service personalization, and business model innovation. However, its implementation still faces challenges, including limited digital competencies, high investment costs, and data security and privacy issues. This research provides a comprehensive understanding of the development and direction of AI research in tourism entrepreneurship and offers a research agenda to support the digital transformation of the tourism sector in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize digital marketing strategies to enhance the competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Balai Kaliki Tourism Village, Payakumbuh City, West Sumatra. The research is grounded in the crucial role of SMEs in driving local economic development while facing challenges related to limited digital literacy and market access. The study employed Participatory Action Research (PAR), engaging 10 SMEs as both research participants and co-researchers through the stages of problem identification, planning, action, and reflection. The findings indicate that the implementation of social media-based digital marketing, branding, and e-commerce integration significantly improved SMEs’ online visibility, customer engagement, and sales performance, with average sales growth exceeding 40%. Furthermore, SME owners’ confidence and practical skills in managing digital marketing activities increased substantially, from an average of 25–30% before the intervention to over 85% afterwards. The contribution of this study to the field of education lies in strengthening participatory and practice-based learning models, which not only transfer knowledge but also build sustainable digital entrepreneurship capacity. These results highlight the importance of collaborative approaches in entrepreneurship education to reinforce SME competitiveness in the digital transformation era.

Abstract

The problem of this study lies in the suboptimal relationship between entrepreneurship education and students' entrepreneurial intention. Although students have acquired entrepreneurship learning, an increase in entrepreneurial intention does not always occur directly. This indicates a gap between the transfer of entrepreneurship knowledge and the formation of psychological dispositions, particularly entrepreneurial attitudes, as an important factor in shaping entrepreneurial intention. In addition, family support is often considered to play a role in encouraging entrepreneurial career choices, but empirical findings are inconsistent. This study focuses on analyzing the impact of entrepreneurship education and family support on entrepreneurial intention. using entrepreneurial attitude as a mediating variable in a structural equation model (SEM). The study used a quantitative approach, with a survey administered to 114 Building Engineering Education students from the 2022–2024 cohort who had taken entrepreneurship courses. Data collection was conducted using a Likert scale questionnaire (1–5) and analyzed using SEM to test direct and indirect effects among latent variables. The results showed that entrepreneurship education had a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial attitudes and intentions. However, the direct effect of entrepreneurship education on intentions was not significant when attitudes were not included as a mediator. Meanwhile, family support did not have a significant effect on entrepreneurial attitudes. These findings confirm that entrepreneurial attitudes play an important role as a mediator in shaping students' entrepreneurial intentions.

Abstract

The development of modern entrepreneurship often focuses on economic efficiency, while the ethical dimensions of sharia-based principles remain underexplored empirically. This study places this issue within the context of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah), specifically the principles of buying and selling that emphasize justice, trustworthiness, and the prohibition of gharar, as the basis of Islamic business ethics. The purpose of this study is to integrate a multivariate factor analysis approach with the principles of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah) to develop a model of ethical entrepreneurial behavior in the Islamic trade system. The methods used include a survey of Muslim business actors in the trade and small industry sectors, followed by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to identify the latent structure of sharia values, as well as confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the causal relationship between compliance with muamalah, ethical orientation, and business sustainability. The results of the study indicate that the latent variables "transaction fairness" and "business trustworthiness" have a dominant contribution to the formation of ethical entrepreneurial behavior, while the factor "prohibition of gharar and usury" functions as a moral controller in business decision-making. The conclusion of this study explains in detail the integration of the principles of muamalah fiqh in multivariate factor analysis strengthening the theoretical validity of Islamic entrepreneurship and providing a quantitative basis where transaction justice r = 0.68; business trustworthiness r = 0.63; prohibition of gharar and usury r = 0.59; blessing orientation r = 0.74.

Abstract

The development of halal tourism has become a significant global trend, driven by the increasing number of Muslim tourists worldwide and the demand for Sharia-compliant tourism services. Malaysia is one of the countries that has successfully positioned itself as a leading halal-friendly destination globally. This article aims to analyze the concept, policies, and implementation of halal tourism in Malaysia based on a field study conducted by Master of Tourism students from Padang State University in November 2025. The method used was a descriptive qualitative approach through direct observation, academic discussions, and interviews with stakeholders at the Malaysia Tourism Information Center (MaTiC) and related institutions. The study results indicate that the success of Malaysian halal tourism is supported by strong synergy between the government, religious institutions, the tourism industry, and higher education institutions. In addition to its economic impact, halal tourism also contributes to strengthening cultural identity and community empowerment. This study is expected to serve as a reference for empirical learning and benchmarking for the development of halal tourism in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of student interest in determining the choice of skill competencies in Vocational High Schools (SMK), which is thought to be influenced by the economic level of parents. This research aims to describe the economic level of parents, describe the interests of junior high school students in choosing Culinary Skills Competencies at SMK Negeri 1 Painan, and analyze the relationship between the economic level of parents and the students' interests. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational type of research. The research population was 663 class IX students of State Middle Schools in IV Jurai District, with a sample of 87 respondents determined using the Slovin formula and proportional random sampling technique. Data was collected via questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment correlation. The research results show that the parents' economic level is in the medium category with an average score of 31.32, while students' interest in choosing Culinary Skills Competencies is in the high category. The results of the correlation test show a value of r = 0.678 with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05, which means there is a strong and significant positive relationship between the economic level of parents and students' interest in choosing Culinary Skills Competencies at SMK Negeri 1 Painan. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.460 indicates that 46.0% of the variation in student interest can be explained by the economic level of parents. Thus, the higher the parents' economic level, the higher the student's interest in choosing the Culinary Skills Competency at SMK Negeri 1 Painan.
