Abstract

This article examines how rival football supporter communities in Yogyakarta, namely Slemania (PSS Sleman) and Brajamusti/Mataram Independent (PSIM Yogyakarta), interact. The urgency of this research is that citizen diplomacy is a critical new approach to de-escalating conflict while strengthening social bonds among supporters. The study identifies three key strategies within citizen diplomacy practiced by supporters: cross-group dialogue forums, collaborative social actions (such as blood donations and disaster relief), and digital campaigns aimed at reframing rivalry into an inclusive narrative of solidarity. Drawing on qualitative data from interviews and participant observation, the article analyzes practical implementation challenges, including intergenerational divides and institutional fragility. The findings suggest that while these initiatives remain uneven in reach, they have contributed to a significant reduction in intergroup violence and fostered renewed engagement with national identity among participants. This research offers empirical evidence that citizen-led diplomacy within football culture can serve as a transformative mechanism for social cohesion and civic integration in divided communities.

Abstract

This research aims to reflect on citizenship campaigns as a means of community civics to strengthen civic engagement through a qualitative approach and phenomenological methods. Participant reflections emphasize how civic engagement manifests in civic activity and political voice through community civics, particularly concerning the socio-cultural dimensions of civic education, which align with the goals of fostering smart and good citizenship. Civic activity is associated with philanthropic movements, while political voice relates closely to political aspirations aimed at influencing policy. This reflection on citizenship campaigns serves as a channel for community civics, enhancing civic engagement in the form of both civic activity and political voice related to the public good and public interest. Campaigns can act as tools for persuasion and the dissemination of ideas that promote the development of citizen attributes. Furthermore, this study enriches the understanding of civic communication which is intrinsically linked to how citizens behave, engage, and participate in civic issues relating to the meaning of aspects of communication and use of media.

The phenomenon of distance learning patterns during the pandemic has become an extraordinary leap and has significantly impacted the massive use of the internet in society. The digital era is an era where many human life activities are carried out online by minimizing social interaction, such as school with online learning, working in the office to working from home, organizational meetings via online meeting platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet, health consultations answered directly by doctors, as well as other activities that were rarely carried out before Covid-19. This research aims to determine children's learning patterns and behavior in the metaverse era. Meanwhile, the research method used is quantitative, with several approaches such as correlation between variables and the close relationship between one variable and another. The three groups of respondents in the study were early adults (>20 years), early adolescents (15-20) years and children (10-15 years). The research results show that at the age of children, smartphone use and online activities are only limited to playing games and social media. Meanwhile, in their early teens, some are even starting to learn game-making through online platforms such as Roblox Studio. In early adulthood, which is the age of college education, smartphone use is not just about social media or online shopping; some even have digital wallets and crypto wallets, invest in cryptocurrency, and even actively use the creator's platform games and NFTs with payments via cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, polygon, etc.

This community service program aims to introduce and instill the values of etiquette and politeness in Javanese language for communicating on social media. The partner of this activity is SMP Negeri 2 Surakarta. This training targets school students. One of the reasons for holding the training at this school is because this school has a very large number of students with the condition that almost all of the students use cellphones in their daily lives. The event carried out was a training in etiquette and politeness in communicating using Javanese language on social media conducted by the Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat Hibah Grup Riset (PKM HGR-UNS) Tahun 2025 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Jawa, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. The methods used in this community service activity are: (1) expository (explanation), (2) group discussion, and (3) assignments. The results of the activity show that junior high school students have a better understanding of Javanese language ethics in the digital space, and are able to identify and apply appropriate forms of etiquette and politeness in various online communication situations. This activity demonstrates the effectiveness of a local culture-based educational approach in fostering polite and ethical language awareness among the younger generation. Therefore, local wisdom values, such as polite language, need to be continuously internalized in language education, particularly in the context of today's digital communication.
