Abstract

The annual minimum wage changes cause shifts in the labor market equilibrium. In a competitive labor market, the demand and supply of minimum wages result in a new minimum wage each year. There is no clear evidence regarding the impact of the minimum wage on unemployment. The purpose of this study is to provide evidence on the impact of the minimum wage on unemployment in North Kalimantan. This evidence offers insights for policymakers in setting the minimum wage. This study was conducted using an ordinary least squares (OLS) approach. This study used aggregate data from five sample districts/cities in North Kalimantan province for the period 2017–2024. This study provides strong evidence that the minimum wage has a positive but insignificant effect on unemployment in North Kalimantan. This finding highlights the need for appropriate minimum wage determination, taking into account the efficiency wage theory, which encourages workers to accept better wages. The implication of this study is that annual minimum wage increases do not significantly reduce labor demand and increase unemployment in North Kalimantan.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the urgency of democratic education in shaping students’ character to become active, critical, and responsible citizens. The research aims to describe the forms of internalizing the voice of democracy in the Strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile Project (P5), identify students’ perceptions of the importance of democratic participation, and analyze its impact on enhancing civic participation at SMPN 15 Bandung. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach and utilizes in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation techniques for data collection. The findings reveal that democratic values are internalized holistically through P5 activities, allowing students to gain direct experience in deliberations, class discussions, campaigning, and the student council election. Students demonstrated improved understanding of democratic principles, increased confidence in expressing opinions, and active involvement in collective decision-making processes. The study concludes that P5’s Voice of Democracy theme effectively fosters civic participation that is substantive rather than symbolic. The implication is that P5 serves as a transformative and relevant character education strategy. It is recommended that such a model be expanded to other secondary schools to promote a more participatory, democratic, and values-based educational environment.

Abstract

This article examines how rival football supporter communities in Yogyakarta, namely Slemania (PSS Sleman) and Brajamusti/Mataram Independent (PSIM Yogyakarta), interact. The urgency of this research is that citizen diplomacy is a critical new approach to de-escalating conflict while strengthening social bonds among supporters. The study identifies three key strategies within citizen diplomacy practiced by supporters: cross-group dialogue forums, collaborative social actions (such as blood donations and disaster relief), and digital campaigns aimed at reframing rivalry into an inclusive narrative of solidarity. Drawing on qualitative data from interviews and participant observation, the article analyzes practical implementation challenges, including intergenerational divides and institutional fragility. The findings suggest that while these initiatives remain uneven in reach, they have contributed to a significant reduction in intergroup violence and fostered renewed engagement with national identity among participants. This research offers empirical evidence that citizen-led diplomacy within football culture can serve as a transformative mechanism for social cohesion and civic integration in divided communities.
