Abstract

Abstract

Sport is not just a physical activity or a means of winning medals, but has now evolved into a socio-political instrument capable of addressing the roots of inequality, conflict, and even humanitarian crises. This article critically examines how Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) is used as a social intervention strategy in marginalized communities globally, although it is not immune to criticism for the reproduction of power relations and neo-colonialism in practice. Phenomena such as the participation of refugee athletes in the 2016 Rio Olympics or the unification of the two Koreas under one flag reflect the potential of sport as a medium for soft diplomacy and a rare but meaningful symbol of reconciliation. Domestically, Indonesia with its diversity of ethnicities, religions, and identities has strong assets to utilize sport as a national unifier and a symbol of social cohesion. Furthermore, the public health crisis, both physical and mental, emphasizes the urgency of sport as a preventative solution. Data from the WHO and the Ministry of Health show a surge in non-communicable diseases and mental disorders that can be reduced through active participation in sport. However, the challenge is not simply participation, but rather a restructuring of the development paradigm: from sport for development to development through sport. This article emphasizes that the state must be present, not merely as a facilitator, but as a strategic policy director that makes sport an integrative pillar between development, nationalism, diplomacy, and humanism. Without it, sport will be merely a temporary stage, not an agent of change.

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of predatory short selling on the stability of financial institutions on the Indonesia Stock Exchange by focusing on the role of leverage constraints in creating systemic vulnerability. Using panel data from 42 registered banks for the 2018-2023 period, this study applies an agent-based modeling approach combined with empirical analysis to understand the transmission mechanism of short selling to forced liquidation. The results show that financial institutions with a high leverage ratio (>8%) experience an increase in stock price volatility by 23.7% when facing intensive short selling pressure. The simulation model identifies three vulnerability regions: the safety region (leverage <6%), the vulnerability region (leverage 6%-8%), and the doomed region (leverage >8%). Empirical findings confirm that coordination between short sellers expands the doomed region, where liquidation becomes a single equilibrium. Panel regression analysis showed that every 1% increase in the short interest ratio increased the probability of forced liquidation by 0.47% in high-leverage institutions. The implementation of circuit breakers and short selling restrictions has proven effective in reducing manipulative short selling by 31% during the COVID-19 crisis period. This research provides an empirical justification for the temporary restriction of short selling on vulnerable financial institutions and contributes to the development of a more adaptive regulatory framework in emerging markets.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has presented great opportunities for innovation, such as personalized learning, adaptive assessment, and administrative efficiency. However, these developments also pose ethical and governance challenges, especially related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, transparency, and the risk of increasing education gaps. This research aims to critically examine how ethical and governance principles can be designed to balance the benefits of AI innovation with the need for responsible accountability. The research method uses qualitative analysis of global policy documents, AI guidelines from UNESCO and OECD, and institutional case studies, complemented by semi-structured interviews with education and technology experts. The results show that although AI has great potential to transform pedagogical practices, existing governance mechanisms are still fragmented and have not been consistently implemented. The main gaps identified include low ethical literacy among educators, weak institutional accountability structures, and the absence of harmonized global policies. The contribution of this research is to propose a conceptual model of AI governance in education that integrates the principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability with innovation strategies. This model offers a direction for policymakers, institutions, and educators to use AI responsibly while safeguarding human values, thereby strengthening the discourse on the ethical use of AI in education.

Abstract

The Muslim fashion industry is one of the creative sectors with rapid growth in the ASEAN region, along with the increase of the Muslim middle class, internet penetration, and halal lifestyle trends. Digital transformation through e-commerce is a key catalyst that allows local brands to expand their market reach to the regional level. However, this dynamic also presents challenges in the form of cross-border regulations, logistical barriers, low digital literacy, and global competition. This study aims to analyze the transformation of the local Muslim fashion industry through e-commerce in ASEAN by emphasizing the driving and inhibiting factors, local brand adaptation strategies, as well as economic, socio-cultural, regulatory, and technological implications. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-comparative design. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with industry players, questionnaires open to consumers, and digital observations of marketplaces and social media of Muslim fashion brands in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Thailand. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis techniques and source triangulation. The findings of the study show that e-commerce is driving the significant growth of the local Muslim fashion industry, with the main adaptation strategies in the form of omnichannel marketing, influencer collaboration, culture-based storytelling, and sustainable fashion innovation. The main barriers include logistics issues (35%), cross-border regulation (30%), digital literacy (20%), and global competition (15%). Digital transformation has proven to have implications for increasing market access, strengthening ASEAN Muslim identity, and the need for harmonization of halal regulations and digital technology integration.
