Abstract

Character education at the elementary school level plays a strategic role in shaping students’ moral awareness and attitudes, particularly the value of responsibility as a foundation of ethical behavior in Islam. However, empirical studies examining how the value of responsibility is represented in Islamic Religious Education textbooks remain limited. This study aims to systematically analyze the representation and alignment of responsibility values in elementary school Islamic Religious Education textbooks. Employing a qualitative approach with a content analysis design, this study examines textbooks for Grades 1, 2, and 3 used in the national curriculum. Data were analyzed through coding and categorization of responsibility values into personal, social, and ecological dimensions. The findings reveal that responsibility values are predominantly represented through personal and social dimensions, particularly in the form of habituation of religious practices, discipline, cleanliness, care for others, and role modeling of Islamic figures, while the ecological dimension of responsibility remains limited and unevenly distributed across grade levels. These findings indicate that textbooks function as important instruments for character formation but require stronger reflective approaches and a more balanced integration of responsibility dimensions. The implications of this study are relevant for curriculum development, textbook writing, and instructional practices in Islamic Religious Education that are more holistic and contextual.

Abstract

Emergent reading skills constitute a critical foundation in early childhood literacy development. This study aims to examine the impact of utilizing animal picture puzzle media on improving the emergent reading abilities of students at RA Islamiyah Batang Kuis. The research employed a two-cycle Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with a sample of 14 students from Class B. Data were collected through observation sheets using indicators such as pronouncing letter sounds, distinguishing letters, identifying words with the same initial letter, and articulating words clearly. Data analysis was conducted descriptively by calculating the percentage of development within each category. The findings revealed a significant improvement: the “Not Yet Developed” category decreased from 27% in Cycle I to 0% in Cycle II, while the categories “Developing as Expected” and “Highly Developed” increased. The most notable progress was observed in the ability to distinguish letters (an increase of 14%), followed by the ability to articulate words clearly. These findings are consistent with global evidence emphasizing the effectiveness of play-based learning in supporting early literacy and cognitive development in children. The implications of this study suggest that animal picture puzzles can serve as an alternative, creative, and enjoyable strategy in early childhood reading instruction. Nevertheless, the study is limited by its small sample size, single-class context, and short duration without a control group. Future research is recommended to involve a larger number of participants, extend the duration, and employ a more rigorous experimental design, including variations of other play-based media relevant to early literacy.

Abstract

The digital era and globalization have brought significant changes to early childhood parenting patterns. Parents now face new challenges in the form of strong technological exposure to children's behavior and character. This study aims to analyze parenting patterns in the digital era and globalization and their implications for early childhood character development. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with interviews and documentation methods involving four parents at TK An-Nida Medan as key informants. The data were strengthened by a literature review of books and scientific journals published between 2020 and 2025. The results show that parenting patterns in the digital era have shifted from traditional patterns to digital-adaptive patterns that emphasize technological literacy, open communication, and moral supervision. Parents who implement digital-authoritative patterns show positive character development outcomes, such as discipline, responsibility, empathy, and religiosity in children. Meanwhile, digital-permissive patterns tend to weaken children's self-control and reduce social interaction. This study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between parents, schools, and the environment in shaping early childhood character amidst the currents of globalization and digitalization

Abstract

Religious moderation is a fundamental concept in maintaining social harmony within a multicultural society such as Indonesia, and early childhood education represents a strategic stage for instilling values of tolerance, inclusivity, and respect for diversity. This article aims to analyze the concept of religious moderation, identify challenges in its implementation, and formulate strategies for strengthening religious moderation in early childhood education. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method using a literature-based integrative review approach, analyzing 15 sources consisting of national and international journal articles, academic books, and official government policy documents. The findings indicate that religious moderation in early childhood education can be effectively implemented through thematic learning integration, teacher role modeling, inclusive school culture, and collaboration among schools, parents, and the wider community. However, several challenges persist, including limited teacher understanding, insufficient continuous training, the influence of social media, and resistance from local cultural norms. The originality of this article lies in its comprehensive synthesis of conceptual and practical perspectives on religious moderation that specifically focuses on early childhood education by linking Indonesia’s national policy framework with global multicultural and citizenship education discourse. The study concludes that strengthening religious moderation from an early age requires collaborative strategies, curriculum reinforcement, and sustained capacity building for educators to foster tolerant character development and prepare children to engage constructively with global diversity

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of parents in shaping early childhood character amid the rapid development of the digital era and globalization. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research involved 10 parents and 3–6 teachers from Raudhatul Athfal (RA) Al-Fajar in Medan as participants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and literature review. The findings show that parental involvement—particularly in monitoring children’s digital media use, providing behavioral modeling, and maintaining open communication—significantly contributes to the development of moral, social, and emotional character in children aged 4–6 years. Parents who consistently supervise gadget use and instill values such as empathy, discipline, and responsibility demonstrated greater effectiveness in strengthening children’s character. However, limited digital literacy and time constraints remain major challenges for parents. This study highlights the need for collaboration between families, schools, and communities to create a supportive environment for character education. The results provide practical implications for strengthening family-based character development strategies in navigating digital challenges and global cultural influences

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas metode keteladanan dalam pembentukan karakter anak usia dini melalui perspektif psikologi Islam. Metode penelitian menggunakan studi literatur terhadap lima jurnal terpilih yang membahas praktik keteladanan dalam konteks pendidikan Islam dan pengembangan karakter. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa metode keteladanan merupakan pendekatan yang paling sesuai bagi perkembangan anak karena selaras dengan karakteristik psikologis usia dini yang belajar melalui observasi, imitasi, dan pembiasaan. Keteladanan terbukti membentuk nilai religius, empati, kedisiplinan, kemandirian, serta tanggung jawab pada anak. Analisis juga menemukan keterkaitan antara uswah hasanah dengan teori belajar sosial Bandura, konsep fitrah, serta struktur jiwa dalam psikologi Islam yang memandang perkembangan moral sebagai proses spiritual dan psikologis yang terpadu. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa keteladanan merupakan strategi pendidikan karakter yang komprehensif, berkelanjutan, dan relevan diterapkan dalam pendidikan Islam masa kini.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul "Peningkatan Kecerdasan Interpersonal Anak Usia 5-6 Tahun Melalui Permainan Estafet Bola". Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat kecerdasan interpersonal anak sebelum dilakukannya permainan estafet bola, pada saat pelaksanaan, dan setelah kegiatan selesai, sekaligus mengamati respon anak untuk menilai perkembangan kemampuan interpersonalnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Subjek penelitian adalah 12 anak, 6 laki-laki dan 6 perempuan berusia 5-6 tahun dari TK Maghfirah Firdaus Soberata. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi observasi langsung aktivitas anak dan dokumentasi berupa catatan dan gambar aktivitas. Data yang diperoleh dengan menggunakan kedua teknik ini kemungkinan akan lebih objektif dan mendalam dalam menggambarkan perkembangan kecerdasan interpersonal anak. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan adanya peningkatan, dimana pada pra siklus rata-rata persentase yang diperoleh sebesar 40,10%. Pada siklus I, nilai rata rata meningkat menjadi 73,44%, sehingga terjadi kenaikan sebesar 33,34% dari pra siklus ke siklus I. Selanjutnya pada siklus II rata-rata persentase mencapai 84,38% atau naik 10,94% dibandingkan siklus I. Dengan demikian total peningkatan dari pra siklus hingga siklus II adalah sebesar 44,28%. Berdasarkan pada temuan penelitian diatas bahwa aktivitas estafet bola dapat meningkatkan kecerdasan interpersonal pada anak usia 5 hingga 6 tahun. Permainan ini memungkinkan anak-anak untuk berlatih bekerja sama, membangun keterampilan komunikasi dengan teman sebaya, dan belajar memahami serta menghargai perasaan orang lain melalui aktivitas yang menyenangkan.

Abstract

The development of the modern world, characterized by advances in digital technology, globalization, and complex social dynamics, has created new challenges in child-rearing practices, particularly for Muslim families. Children require not only the fulfillment of physical needs and formal education, but also balanced emotional, social, and spiritual support. This study aims to examine the concept of child-rearing based on love and compassion from the perspective of Islamic psychology, identify the core principles of Islamic parenting, and explain its implications for children’s psychological development. This research employed a qualitative approach using a literature review method with a systematic literature review design. Data sources were obtained from academic books as well as nationally accredited journals and reputable international journals published between 2020 and 2024. The data were analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis to identify patterns, key concepts, and relationships among variables. The findings indicate that parenting grounded in love and compassion (rahmah), combined with role modeling, justice, and wisdom in discipline, contributes positively to children’s emotional, social, moral, and spiritual development. Warm and responsive Islamic parenting supports the development of effective emotional regulation, prosocial behavior, and the internalization of faith-based and moral values in children. The results also demonstrate a strong alignment between Islamic parenting concepts and the compassionate parenting approach in modern psychology, with Islamic psychology offering a distinctive strength in its spiritual dimension. This study contributes to the reinforcement of the theoretical framework of Islamic psychology and provides practical recommendations for parents and educators in implementing balanced parenting that integrates compassion, discipline, and Islamic values in the modern era.

Abstract

Early childhood development (0–6 years) is a critical period that shapes a child’s physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, language, and moral growth. The family, as the first educational environment, plays a vital role in shaping the child’s character and adaptive skills, particularly through parent–child interactions. In Muslim communities, child-rearing focuses on not only psychological aspects but also reinforcing religious values through Islamic Parenting, which is based on the principles of rahmah (compassion), uswah (exemplary behavior), guidance, and ‘adl (justice), as outlined in the Qur’an and Hadith. This study uses a qualitative literature review to analyze the role of Islamic Parenting in early childhood development, highlighting the significance of these values. The review shows that Islamic Parenting plays a crucial role in optimizing children’s holistic development, including cognitive, social, emotional, moral, and spiritual aspects. Key components of this model include parental exemplification, compassion, religious education, positive behavior habituation, and cognitive stimulation through educational interactions. This model can be implemented through daily practices such as prayers, storytelling, and character reinforcement. In conclusion, Islamic Parenting fosters not just biological caregiving but also character, morality, and spirituality, preparing children for contemporary challenges.

Abstract

Parenting di era kontemporer diwarnai oleh kemajuan teknologi digital dan arus globalisasi yang masif. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tantangan dan peluang yang dihadapi orang tua dalam mengasuh anak di tengah lingkungan sosio-teknis yang berubah cepat. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur dengan menelaah berbagai sumber pustaka terkini. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tantangan utama meliputi paparan konten digital yang tidak sesuai, risiko cyberbullying, berkurangnya interaksi sosial langsung, dan erosi nilai-nilai kultural lokal. Di sisi lain, teknologi dan globalisasi juga membuka peluang signifikan, seperti akses tanpa batas terhadap sumber belajar dan informasi, pengembangan kompetensi digital sejak dini, serta kesadaran multikultural yang lebih luas. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa keberhasilan parenting di era ini sangat bergantung pada kemampuan orang tua untuk mengintegrasikan pendekatan tradisional dengan pemanfaatan teknologi secara bijak, didukung oleh literasi digital yang memadai. Peran orang tua bergeser dari sekedar pengawas menjadi fasilitator dan navigator yang membimbing anak dalam menyeleksi informasi dan membangun identitas di dunia yang terhubung.
