Abstract

Background: Over the past five years, the proportion of the elderly population in Indonesia has continued to increase to 12%. The government's efforts to support the health of seniors with chronic diseases include the PROLANIS (Chronic Disease Management Program), which includes structured Exercise Movements to help participants maintain their physical condition and manage their illnesses. As older adults age, they experience a decline in bodily functions, which can impact physical activity limitations, including exercise. Purpose: To determine the ability of the elderly to carry out PROLANIS exercises at Puskesmas Sibela Surakarta. Methods: This research is a quantitative study using descriptive methods. The study population was all PROLANIS participants, with a sample of 46 respondents selected based on inclusion criteria: participants registered with PROLANIS program at Puskesmas Sibela Surakarta and participating in exercise movements activities twice a month for 20 minutes. The instrument used was an observation sheet containing the ability of elderly people to participate in exercise movements. Results: All elderly people routinely do PROLANIS exercises twice a month and the majority of elderly people are able to participate in the exercise movements as a whole, namely 41 people (89.1%) in the first and second meetings. Conclusion: The majority of elderly PROLANIS participants at Puskesmas Sibela Surakarta were able to complete the entire exercise movements routine at both sessions. This demonstrates that PROLANIS exercise movements can be successfully performed by elderly individuals despite the decline in bodily functions due to aging.

Abstract

The Cempaka Subdistrict in Banjarbaru City faces several maternal and child health challenges, including low awareness of clean and healthy living behaviors, limited antenatal care visits, anemia among pregnant women and adolescents, suboptimal exclusive breastfeeding practices, incomplete basic immunization, and inadequate neonatal care knowledge. These problems are compounded by limited access to health services and varying levels of health literacy within the community. This community service program, Germas Berlian (Community Movement to Empower Families for Maternal and Child Health through Neurobehavioral, Social, and Cultural Approaches), aims to enhance community knowledge, skills, and health practices across the life cycle. The activities included coordination and field observation, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), integrated health education, health screenings for pregnant women, adolescents, and toddlers, capacity-building training, and home visits for prioritized families. Post-intervention evaluations demonstrated significant improvements in participants’ knowledge, nutritional awareness, health practices, and screening outcomes. The program highlights the effectiveness of integrated and culturally appropriate educational interventions to empower families and improve maternal and child health in underserved areas.

Abstract

Education of children aged 5-6 years is a critical foundation for children's cognitive and motor development, but the ability to recognize numbers 1-20 and gross motor skills of children in Pembina State Kindergarten, Pecalungan District is still low. This is triggered by monotonous conventional learning methods, the lack of innovative media, and the lack of integration of local wisdom values. This study developed a snake and ladder game media based on local wisdom to overcome these problems while preserving regional culture. The purpose of the study was to test the feasibility, effectiveness, and practicality of the media in improving the ability to recognize numbers and gross motor skills of children aged 5-6 years. The research method used the Research and Development (RD) approach with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, involving 20 group B students as subjects. The research instruments included validation sheets of material and media experts, teacher-student response questionnaires, cognitive tests, and gross motor observation rubrics. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, normality tests, t-tests, and N-Gain calculations. The validation results showed that the media was considered very feasible by material experts (87.5%) and media experts (85%). The t-test proved a significant increase in post-test scores (average 80) compared to pre-test (55) with N-Gain 0.6 (moderate category). Gross motor skills increased, namely 70% of students reached the category of Developing According to Expectations (BSH) and 30% Developing Very Well (BSB). The practicality of the media reached 93.33% based on teacher assessment. The conclusion of the study confirmed that local wisdom-based snakes and ladders media is effective in improving academic and motor skills, while strengthening children's cultural identity. The implication is that this media is recommended as an alternative for interactive culture-based learning in children aged 5-6 years.

Abstract

This systematic literature review examines the integration of local wisdom into picture storybook media to enhance Reading comprehension among elementary school students. The study synthesizes findings from 24 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025, focusing on the effectiveness, pedagogical advantages, and implementation challenges of culturally responsive picture storybooks in Indonesian elementary education contexts. The review follows PRISMA guidelines for systematic review, examining studies that integrate local cultural elements, including folklore, traditional values, and regional narratives, into visual storytelling materials. Findings indicate that picture storybooks embedded with local wisdom consistently demonstrate significant improvements in Reading comprehension, with effect sizes ranging from medium to large across various studies. The integration of familiar cultural contexts enhances student engagement, motivation, and understanding of the context of Reading materials. Key advantages include increased relevance to students’ lived experiences, strengthened cultural identity, and improved literacy outcomes across diverse demographic settings. However, limitations persist in terms of geographical scope, scalability challenges, and the need for sustained teacher professional development. This review contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting culturally responsive teaching approaches in literacy education. It provides recommendations for researchers, educators, and policymakers seeking to implement culturally grounded Reading materials in elementary education settings.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought significant changes to digital learning practices, particularly in the way educational communication takes place. This study aims to examine the role of AI as a communication mediator in the learning process through a synthesis of Scopus-indexed scientific literature. This study uses a literature review approach by analyzing 40 scientific articles discussing the use of AI in education, including generative AI, educational chatbots, intelligent tutoring systems, pedagogical agents, and social robots. The analysis was conducted thematically to identify patterns of AI's role in mediating learning communication. The results show that AI acts as a communication mediator through four main functions: (1) an instructional dialogue mediator that facilitates two-way interaction and cognitive scaffolding; (2) a feedback and learning regulation mediator that provides instant and dialogic responses; (3) a mediator of social and collaborative communication that supports group interaction and inclusive learning; and (4) a mediator of personalized learning communication that tailors the style and content of interactions based on learners' needs. These findings confirm that AI functions not only as a technological tool but also as a non-human communicative actor that shapes the structure, meaning, and dynamics of pedagogical communication. This research contributes to the development of educational communication studies by offering a conceptual perspective on AI as a communication mediator in learning. Its practical implications include the importance of pedagogical and ethical design in AI integration so that the communication mediation role performed by AI is aligned with educational goals and values. Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to map how the educational philosophies of constructivism, progressivism, pragmatism, and humanism shape pedagogical paradigms and teaching practices in elementary science education. It also seeks to develop an integrative conceptual framework that supports meaningful and student-centered science learning in 21st-century primary education. Methodology: This study employed a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following PRISMA guidelines. Articles were retrieved from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases covering the 2015–2025 period. Ten peer-reviewed articles were selected after identification, screening, and eligibility stages. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and narrative synthesis supported by a structured data extraction instrument. Main Findings: Constructivism promotes active knowledge construction through inquiry-based approaches such as CIBSE. Progressivism emphasizes student-centered and adaptive learning environments supported by digital technology. Pragmatism integrates cultural and empirical knowledge through experiential reflection, while humanism supports holistic development by addressing affective and social dimensions. Effective science learning emerges from the interaction of these traditions rather than reliance on a single paradigm. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study synthesizes four philosophical traditions into a unified Integrative Philosophical Framework, which has rarely been explored in previous SLR studies. The findings encourage educators to adopt a reflective multi-philosophical approach. However, the review is limited by its small sample size and reliance on predominantly English-language sources. Future research should involve longitudinal mixed-methods studies across a broader range of educational contexts.
