Abstract

In general, former prisoners want to participate socially so that their status is the same as that of other members of society. However, in reality, they often face social discrimination and negative stigma from their environment. This research question is: What is the message from former convicts in drug cases in the strategy to restore self-image in Central Aceh Regency? This research uses qualitative methods to obtain in-depth and natural data. Image Restoration Theory by William L. Benoit's is used as an analytical perspective. The research informants were four former drug convicts who had been socially reintegrated according to certain criteria. Data collection was carried out using unstructured interviews. Research data was analysed using the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. This study found that the informants use a transcendental-multi-step flow communication model in their image restoration strategies. The messages used by informants in image restoration include the five strategies offered by Benoit. However, corrective action and mortification are important strategies in this case. The corrective action strategy is not just about being "clean" from drugs but also about making positive changes in various aspects, such as relationships, work, and religious practice. Apart from having a cognitive consonance effect, the mortification strategy can also repair damaged relationships. Through corrective action and mortification strategies, former prisoners build an image called the "image of repentance".

Abstract

This study investigates how gender empowerment affects Unilever's CSR social media output. Given the increasing relevance of CSR in corporate identity and social development, this research examines how well CSR initiatives could convey and support female emancipation. With an eye towards Unilever, a global business leader, the company emphasises sustainability and responsibility. This paper argues that corporate strategy depends on CSR and that social justice and sustainable development depend on women's empowerment. The study looks at the junction of gender and corporate responsibility using feminist theory and corporate communication, therefore investigating how CSR social media may empower women. Additionally , Unilever's CSR and gender empowerment reports as well as community leaders were examined and interviewed. This method makes clear the objectives of female empowerment and CSR. Initial results imply that CSR projects by Unilever help women. Good social communication plans call for respect of indigenous cultural norms and values, open communication, and community involvement. Emphasising the need of integrating women in the design and execution of CSR projects to meet their needs and viewpoints. The studies stress that there are important pragmatic implications from this research. It presents a disciplined framework to assess the social justice impact of corporate actions and offers strategic social communication recommendations for empowering women via CSR, hence, improving CSR and gender research. The report highlights opportunities for development in CSR strategies and best practices, therefore guiding governments and corporate leaders. According to the results, women can be empowered by CSR; social influence depends mostly on communication. Thus, a more complete CSR plan and communication must prioritise social justice—especially women's empowerment.

Abstract

This study seeks to examine and elucidate the da'wah messages present in the film via the lens of Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The primary emphasis of the research pertains to communications concerning faith, sharia, ethics, and worship. This research employs a descriptive qualitative methodology, utilizing data collection approaches such as examination of textual content, documents, photographs, and literature review. The acquired data was processed utilizing Nvivo 12 Pro software, which facilitates coding and symbolic interpretation of semiotic aspects in the film. The research findings indicate that the film "The Journey of Proving Love" consistently communicates da'wah messages encompassing faith, sharia, ethics, and worship. Every aspect of preaching is conveyed through visual signs, speech, and narrative, which are examined using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, elucidating the denotative, connotative, and mythological significance of each symbol in the video. This study demonstrates that the film "The Journey of Proving Love" communicates a da'wah message utilizing Roland Barthes' semiotic framework. The analysis indicates that moral principles, sharia, and faith are interwoven in the speech and relationships among the characters. The moral message is underscored through dialogue that stresses the significance of ethical discourse, while the Shari'a and creed are articulated through the imperative of wearing the headscarf and counsel on fostering a deeper relationship with Allah in personal affairs.

Abstract

Abstract

The persistent bias in media representations of non-binary gender identities in Indonesia raises a critical question: to what extent are public media and language capable of fostering inclusive and equitable communication? This study seeks to examine how non-binary gender identities are constructed through language strategies in Indonesian media practices, and to evaluate the extent to which principles of inclusive communication are implemented or overlooked within public discourse. The primary objective of this research is to systematically analyze patterns of representation and linguistic strategies concerning non-binary identities, while critically assessing these practices through the lens of inclusive communication. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a qualitative approach, this study synthesizes relevant academic literature published between 2015 and 2025. The theoretical framework integrates Stuart Hall’s theory of representation, Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity, and Foss and Pearson’s concept of inclusive communication. The findings reveal that media representations of non-binary identities in Indonesia remain predominantly stereotypical and exclusionary, reinforced by gender-biased language and a lack of institutional awareness regarding inclusivity. Mainstream media have yet to adopt gender-neutral editorial standards, with more affirming narratives primarily emerging from grassroots initiatives and alternative media spaces.

Abstract

This research aims to uncover how the views of religious figures and political figures shape public assumptions towards women’s leadership in government The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with purposively selected religious and political figures. These two groups were chosen because of their important role in shaping opinions and influencing social discourse in society. The results show that the discourse on women’s leadership is still largely overshadowed by conservative religious interpretations and deeply rooted patriarchal social constructs Religious figures generally express caution or even reject women’s leadership, referring to normative textsunderstood literally. Meanwhile, the views of political figures are more diverse—some openly support it based on women’s capacity and contribution in government, while others still view women as symbolic complements in politics.Public discourse on women’s leadership is largely determined by the legitimacy granted by religious and political figures When these two authorities tend to maintain traditional gender interpretations, the opportunities for women to be substantively accepted in leadership become limited. Therefore, reconstructing the discourse and the active involvement of these figures in promoting narratives of equality are key to opening up a more inclusive and gender-just space for power.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze political communication strategies in shaping public opinion, specifically how narratives constructed by political actors reflect or deviate from social reality in the digital era. The background of the problem includes a significant shift in political communication from one-way to a dynamic and participatory process through various digital platforms, where narratives are no longer limited to official speeches but evolve into visual, symbolic, and interactive content on social media. While this strategy is effective in building identity, emotional attachment, and influencing public perception of issues , problems arise when constructed narratives do not align with the reality faced by the public, which can lead to cognitive dissonance and a decline in public trust. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the meaning, context, and messages of political communication. Data collection involves document studies (social media posts, online news, campaign content, political speeches) and in-depth interviews with political communication practitioners, campaign teams, or media observers. Data are analyzed using qualitative content analysis to identify themes, symbols, language styles, and main messages , with source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings indicate that political actors strategically utilize emotional and identity-based narratives, such as justice, nationalism, and religion, as well as issue framing, to shape public opinion. The use of social media algorithms accelerates message dissemination and creates echo chambers, reinforcing polarization. Although effective in building psychological closeness and voter loyalty , the discrepancy between narrative and reality can potentially decrease public trust, trigger cognitive dissonance, a crisis of representation, and polarization. Therefore, healthy political communication must balance narrative with factual validity to strengthen credibility and foster democratic, inclusive, and educational communication.
