Abstract

Due to the presence of renowned universities, Tembalang, Semarang City, is experiencing rapid development. However, this development not only brings positive impacts but also raises environmental issues, one of which is river pollution. Seketak River, a ±10.5 km long river that has its headwaters in Banyumanik Subdistrict and empties into Diponegoro University's Education Reservoir, is one of the affected areas. This river pollution has the potential to disrupt water quality and aquatic biota life. The source of pollution is suspected to come from domestic, industrial, and livestock waste around the Seketak watershed. Therefore, intensive research was conducted to analyze the status of water quality and pollution load based on point sources. This research aims to provide recommendations for proper management and control of pollution. Data were collected during the transitional season (dry to rainy) using the Pollution Index (IP) method based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 115 of 2003 and the Pollution Load (BP) method. The research involved four sampling points, each representing a pollutant source (industry, settlement, campus, and livestock), with two repetitions. The results showed that the average IP value of Seketak River was in the lightly polluted category, referring to the Class II Quality Standard of PP No. 22 of 2021. In the first repetition, the IP value was 2.87, while in the second repetition it reached 3.26. The Pollution Load Analysis identified 5 variables that exceeded the maximum load including Nitrite, Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), iron (Fe) and lead (Pb). These findings emphasize the importance of integrated management efforts to mitigate pollution in Seketak River.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly impacted education, including language learning and assessment practices. Traditional methods of language proficiency assessment, which often rely on written tests, are no longer adequate to meet the needs of learners in digital learning environments. The emergence of digital tools and platforms provides new opportunities for more flexible, interactive, and personalized assessments that can capture a holistic picture of language proficiency. This research aims to explore innovative approaches to assessing language proficiency in digital learning environments, with a focus on integrating modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning into assessment practices. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection through surveys, interviews, and experimental implementation of digital assessment tools. Data is analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of these tools in accurately assessing different dimensions of language proficiency, including speaking, listening, and writing skills. Results indicate that AI-powered assessments provide real-time feedback, promote learner engagement, and offer a more personalized learning experience. Additionally, digital environments enhance the authenticity of language tasks by simulating real-life communication scenarios. The conclusion of the study suggests that innovative digital approaches offer a more comprehensive and responsive assessment framework, aligning with the evolving needs of modern language learners. Future research should explore further refinement of these tools to ensure their accessibility and effectiveness across diverse learner populations.

Abstract

This study measured how well students can apply critical thinking skills when studying energy source materials in Natural Knowledge Science. In addition, research also reveals the factors that support or hinder the development of participants' critical thinking skills in the context of learning. i The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a survey approach. The research subject is 40 participants enrolled in the IV Grade of SDN Tanggul, Wonoayu District, Sidoarjo Regency, with an institution in the form of a written thesis and an interview with the IV Grade’s teachers of SDN Tanggul. Data analysis uses data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions drawn. The study results showed that, in general, the participants' ability to think critically. Interpretation indicators and analysis show more than good results compared to indicators of inference and evaluation. This indicates that the participants still have difficulties concluding and giving strong reasons to overcome their answers. The study's results also show that efforts to improve participants' critical thinking skills in the IV SDN Tanggul have been carried out but are still limited to conventional learning methods. This research suggests that teachers can use more interactive learning media and varied learning methods in learning science, especially energy source materials. In addition, teachers also need to provide trigger questions so that students can hone critical thinking skills and analyze information in depth. Thus, it is hoped that the ability of the participants to think critically will be improved so that they can face challenges in an increasingly complex era.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a critical global health challenge, causing approximately 1.3 million deaths in 2022. Indonesia, ranking second globally in TB burden, faces substantial issues with under-reported TB cases, with nearly 30% unnotified due to barriers such as limited healthcare access, inadequate diagnostics, and inconsistent reporting systems. This study investigates the relationship between patient demographic factors — age, gender, and living area—and the under-reporting of TB cases in Indonesia’s private healthcare sector. Using Spearman correlation analysis, the study identified a significant association between living area and TB under-reporting (p < 0.05), highlighting disparities between urban and rural regions. In contrast, no significant correlations were observed for age or gender (p > 0.05). The findings emphasize the urgent need for strengthening healthcare infrastructure and implementing standardized digital reporting systems to address regional disparities and improve case notification rates. These insights provide critical guidance for policymakers and healthcare professionals in designing targeted interventions to reduce TB under-reporting and enhance public health outcomes.
