Abstract

Abstract

Earthquake on July 2, 2013, destroyed several buildings in Aceh Tengah district and Bener Meriah district of Aceh Province. This earthquake gives Aceh government a clue that the seismic hazard map must become the reference in development plan in future. To respond this idea, we conduct the research and try to estimate the amplification factor for developing seismic hazard maps of those districts. This study aims to determine the average shear wave velocity up to the depth of 30 meters (Vs30) and the amplification factor of Aceh Tengah district and Bener Meriah district, to build the seismic hazard map of both districts. In this study, we use the MASW (Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves) with 24 geophones in the frequency of 10 Hz at 10 locations to determine the Vs30 beneath the surface. The soil and rock classification from ASCE 2010 and SNI 1726:2012 used to classify the soil/rock based on Vs30 and calculate the predicted amplification factor using the Borcherdt Eeri equation. The result of this study reveals that the range of Vs30 in the study area is 76 m/s 308 m/s. The loosest sediment has 76 m/s located at point 2 in Aceh Tengah district. The shear wave velocity of 76 m/s classifies as soft soil (SE). Based on the calculation, the pyroclastic deposit and sediment in the basin of the study area will be amplified the seismic wave in the range of 2.9 to 3.3 times. In the future, we suggest conducting another geophysical survey to determine the correct amplification factor to improve the quality of seismic hazard map.

Abstract

As Tan Malaka knows, he is a materialist thinker who is a Marxist, presumably because of his materialistdialectical style of thinking (a la Marx) this labeling of atheism was then also addressed to a noble child named Sutan Datuk Ibrahim by public understanding. Apart from the public image above, the background of Tan Malaka, who grew up in the Islamic Minangkabau land, is certainly not something that can be simply forgotten. Evidently, even though he has traveled far and explored various styles of thought, the Islamic style is still strongly reflected in his thoughts. Her life background of being raised in a devout family seems to have succeeded in stealing a trace of her mind's attention. thought is formed in socio-intellectual religion and its relevance to Islamic education

The purpose of this discussion is the Origin and Characteristics of Madrasas. The type of research that the writer did was field research which is a qualitative description. Data collection techniques that the authors use are through observation, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data used is triangulation. The analysis technique that the writer uses according to Miles and Huberman. The research results show that Al-Faruqi was the first person to initiate the Islamization of science. His intellectual sharpness and scientific criticism brought him to the conclusion that western-style social sciences show quite basic methodological weaknesses, especially when applied to understanding the reality of social life of Muslims who have a very different outlook on life from Western society. In carrying out the process of Islamization of knowledge, there are several objectives, namely: Mastering modern scientific disciplines, Mastering Islamic heritage, establishing special relevance to every field of modern science, Finding ways for creative synthesis between (Islamic) heritage and modern science, Building Islamic thought in the path that leads to obedience to God’s law, there is recognition of the existence of a hierarchy or levels of knowledge, Laying revelation the highest standard in discovering the truth.

Abstract

The study aims to investigate if role play and discussion methods can improve students’ speaking skills significantly. The researcher also attempts to investigate whether role play or discussion method that better enhancing the students’ speaking performance after the teaching-learning process conducted. To achieve these aims, the quasi-experimental research design is employed. The data were gathered from 60 students of twelfth grade in one of the vocational high schools in Pandeglang, Banten. Students from two classes were taken randomly and divided into experimental and control groups. Some instruments like pre-test - post-test were employed to collect the data. At the end of the study, many advantages were found to improve the students’ speaking skill including vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation aspect. Both groups indicated to experience improvement, but the experimental group showed more advanced enhancement indicated by their achieving to reach the ‘good’ category in speaking. While none of the students from the control group could get that. Conclusively, students taught by the discussion method show more improvement with 19.93 as their mean score. While students by role-play method have 13.73 as their mean score. It is significantly different from both methods indicated by the significance value score of 0.14 which is less than 0.05. Hence, the discussion method is more effective than the role-play method in improving students’ speaking ability. For that reason, it is recommended for teachers to use discussion method to improve students’ speaking comprehension.
