Abstract

This research aims to discover whether using storytelling technique can improve the speaking skill of the grade eight students of SMPN Model Terpadu Madani Palu. This research implemented quasi experimental design. The population is 153 students. The sample is 60 students of classes VIII Ki Hajar Dewantara and VIII Raden Saleh which were selected by employing cluster random sampling technique. To collect the data, test which was divided into pretest and posttest were used as the research instrument. The data were processed using SPSS 22. The findings revealed that students’ speaking skill improve after got the treatment. Based on the calculation, the mean score of experimental class (65.83) is higher than the mean score of control class (60.27). It is also supported by data analysis using independent sample t-test, it showed that the p-value (sig.) is lower than the chosen alpha level (0.000 < 0.05). In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis is accepted or using storytelling technique effectively improves students speaking skill of grade eight of SMP Negeri Model Tepadu Madani Palu.

Abstract

The research aims to find out whether or not the use Read-Cover-Remember-Retell (RCRR) can improve students’ reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sojol. The researcher used quasi-experimental research design which involved two groups namely experimental group and control group. The population was 166 students in grade tenth. The samples were 67 students, selected by using the purposive sampling technique. The instrument of collecting the data was test. The test consisted of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed statistically using, 0.05 level of significance and 60 degree of freedom. Based on the data analysis, it was founds that the students’ mean score of experimental groups post-test was 64.38 greater than the control groups mean score, 47.12. Comparison the two tests of scale describes that value = 10.18> value = 1.659 which indicates that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sojol can be improved by using the ReadCover-Remember-Retell (RCRR) Strategy

Abstract

This research aims to determine if the implementation of the Experience Text Relationship (ETR) method can improve the reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu. The sample for this study consisted of the grade eight students Slamet Riyadi as the control group and grade eight students Pattimura as the experimental group, selected using cluster random sampling. The researcher used pencil and paper with a test method as the instrument for data collection in the pretest and posttest techniques. Based on the test results, the average pretest score in the control group was 64.1, while in the experimental group, it was 49.7. After treatment in the experimental group, there was an increase above the control group, as evidenced by an increase in the posttest. The posttest score in the control group was 77.13, while in the experimental group, it was 80.2. Furthermore, the researcher calculated the t-counted to be 5.625, applying a significance level of 0.05 with degrees of freedom (df) 58, and the t-table value was 1.684. This means that the t-value is greater than the t-table value, leading to the conclusion that the Experience Text Relationship method can improve students' reading comprehension more effectively.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the use of Jigsaw Technique to Teach Reading Comprehension of the Eight-Grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Palu. This research used a quasi experimental design consisting of experimental and control classes. The sample of this research was two classes of eight-grade students, with the amount 51 students of VIII A and VIII B. This research used a total sampling technique. In the process of collecting the data, the researcher used an instrument which contains of multiple choice and essay test. The result of the data analysis shows that the mean score of the experimental class significantly increased from 57.78 to 77.78, while the mean score of the control class increased from 60.36 to 69.52. The researcher found that the t-counted was higher than the t-table (4.65>1.678). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the use of Jigsaw Technique can be applied by teachers in teaching and learning process as one of effective technique to improve Student’s reading comprehension.

Abstract

The Al-Qur'an and Hadith are the primary sources of Islamic law. Still, the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an and Hadith gives rise to various understandings that have multiple interpretations, so there is a need for a more precise scope as an approach in istinbat al-hukm of Al-Qur'an. Qur'an and Hadith. The linguistic approach is one of the legal instruments and methodologies from the two sources above in terms of sentence structure and semantics (meaning content). In the context of Istinbat al-hukm through a linguistic approach, it can be seen and reviewed by the editorial or lafaz Arabic language that five main aspects are worth paying attention to, namely: (1) the form of Amr (command) and nahy (prohibition); (2) the clarity side of the meaning; (3) the scope of the meaning; (4) the side shows the meaning; and (5) the use or application side. The results of this study emphasize methodological studies as a path and approach in Istinbat al-hukm from the main references, namely from the Al-Qur'an and Hadith.

Abstract

This study examines the teaching strategies employed by English teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Labuan and SMK Negeri 3 Palu to enhance students’ speaking skills, addressing persistent challenges such as anxiety, low confidence, and limited vocabulary. The research aims to identify the strategies used, analyze their classroom implementation, and determine the most dominant approaches. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were gathered from five English teachers through interviews, classroom observations, questionnaires, and documentation, and analyzed according to Oxford’s taxonomy of language learning strategies: memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective, and social. The findings indicate that all six categories were applied to varying extents, with social and cognitive strategies most frequently and consistently used, followed by metacognitive and compensation strategies. Memory and affective strategies were employed less often but still contributed meaningfully to instruction. Teachers adapted these strategies to align with students’ needs, classroom contexts, and communicative objectives. The study concludes that strategy-based instruction, particularly through social interaction and emotional support significantly improves students’ speaking fluency, confidence, and participation. It underscores the importance of combining communicative practice with psychosocial readiness in vocational EFL settings, recommending continuous teacher training, curriculum alignment to foster learner autonomy, and further research incorporating student perspectives and mixed-method approaches.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the students' limited vocabulary mastery in learning English. Therefore, the researcher applied interactive games as an instructional tool to support students in expanding their vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of interactive games in improving the vocabulary achievement of eighth-grade learners at MTs Alkhairaat Alindau. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants consisted of 24 students from Class VIII A. The data, collected through pre-tests and post-tests, were examined using a normality test and a paired sample t-test in SPSS software. Findings show that the students' mean score increased significantly from 45.67 in the pre-test to 66.58 in the post-test. The statistical analysis yielded a t-value of -15.668 (with a very large effect size, Cohen's d = 1.48) and a significance value (two-tailed) of 0.000. Since this value is less than 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected while the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Therefore, the use of interactive games such as word matching and crossword puzzles proved effective in significantly improving students' vocabulary mastery at MTs Alkhairaat Alindau. This finding suggests that interactive games can serve as effective alternative strategies in EFL vocabulary teaching, particularly in similar junior high school settings.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate whether the use of short stories can increase the vocabulary of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Poso Pesisir Utara. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental design, involving two classes: an experimental group and a control group. A total sampling technique was used to select 47 students as the sample for this study. The data were analyzed using a t-test. Based on the data analysis, the mean score of the experimental group's pre-test was 33.74, while the control group's mean score was 37.15. After the treatment, the experimental group's post-test mean score increased to 80.59, which was higher than the control group's post-test mean score of 49. The t-test comparison revealed that the t-counted value (6.45) was greater than the t-table value (1.684), indicating a significant difference. Therefore, H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that the application of short stories has a significant effect on increasing the vocabulary of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Poso Pesisir Utara.

Abstract

Fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) is one of the pests that attacks maize. There are many ways to control this pest problem one of which is to use  insecticides. However, biological control this pest with nature conservation based on the concept of integrated pest control. Refugia plants offer pest control properties based on the IPM (Integrated Pest Management) concept by providing food for parasitoids as the natural enemies. This study aimed to know capacity parasitism of egg parasitoid S. frugiperda in refugia system. This research uses non-factorial randomized group design (RGD) study, the number of S. frugiperda egg parasitoids on maize fields with refugia plants around it was counted.  There were 5 treatments with 5 replications applied in this study: Control/without refugia, maize plants with red refugia (Zinnia elegans), maize plants with yellow refugia (Melanpodium paludosumi), maize plants with white refugia (Turnera subulata), maize plants with red refugia, yellow and white. This study found two species of S. frugiperda egg parasitoids namely Telenomus remus Nixon (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) and Telenomus dignus (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) in the field. The overall rate of parasitism egg S. frugiperda was no significant effect. The treatment of maize plants with white and mixed-colour refugia (red, yellow, white) showed the highest egg parasitization at 15 days after planting (DAP). Meanwhile, the dominance of Telenomus remus Nixon parasitoid was at an average of 0.202% and the lowest dominance of Telenomus dignus at 0.030%.

Abstract

Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah tingkat power backhand pada pada siswa yang masih tergolong rendah dan lemah yang terlihat dari ketidakmampuan siswa untuk melakukan backhand  yang kuat. Hal ini di sebabkan kurangnya pembinaan dan waktu latihan dan tidak ada program latihan untuk meningkatkan power backhand. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh latihan resistance band terhadap power backhand pada siswa ekstrakulikuler bulutangkis MAN 1 Rokan Hulu. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen dengan desain one-groub pretest-posttest design. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 20 siswa. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini berpengaruh terhadap pukulan backhand dengan hasil: Pre-test dan Post-test meningkat sebesar 33,47 % yaitu dari skor rata-rata  pada Pre-test 40,55 menjadi 54,10 dengan hasil (thitung 14,84>ttabel 1.725), maka Ho ditolak Ha diterima.
