Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has introduced new possibilities in education, particularly in English Language Teaching (ELT). This paper presents the outcomes of an AI-focused training program designed for English teachers at the elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels in Bitung City. The program aimed to enhance teachers’ understanding and practical ability in incorporating AI tools into both instructional and administrative tasks. This was a pilot program that involved 30 English teachers. The training employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which consisted of three key stages: (1) Identification of Community Potential and Strengths; (2) Development of the Assistance Program; and (3) Implementation of the Assistance Program. The findings indicate a notable improvement in the teachers' ability to utilize platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Wordwall, along with a boost in their confidence in adopting technology. Nonetheless, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and limited post-training support remain significant obstacles. The study underscores the importance of ongoing and adaptable professional development to ensure the effective integration of AI into educational practices.

Abstract

Education is a conscious and planned effort in the learning process to enable students to develop into individuals who are independent, responsible, creative, knowledgeable, healthy, and possess noble character. In the learning process, the Islamic Education (PAI) teacher implemented the Snowball Throwing method to encourage students to think more creatively and to create a more enjoyable learning atmosphere. This study employed a qualitative research method with a field research approach. The data sources for this research were the Islamic Education teacher and the eighth-grade students. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques consisted of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the Snowball Throwing method in PAI learning for class VIII at SMPN 5 Panyabungan has been successfully carried out. This is evident from the highly appropriate execution of the Snowball Throwing method in PAI lessons, where teachers and students interact with one another. This interaction is aimed at overcoming student boredom, fostering creative thinking, training leadership potential in learning PAI, and achieving academic success in the subject. The implementation steps taken by the Islamic Education teacher in the Snowball Throwing method are: the teacher explains the material first, then forms groups; subsequently, students write questions on a piece of paper shaped into a ball and throw it to another group, which then answers the questions received.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in community social life as an effort to shape attitudes and behaviors based on humanistic values. It also examines the integration of Islamic religious values with local wisdom within the community, enabling IRE to strengthen harmonious social relationships, mutual respect, and collective well-being. In this study, IRE is understood not merely as a formal learning process but as a humanizing space where Islamic values are instilled and lived through everyday social practices, such as respect, justice, care, and social responsibility. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing on a deep understanding of social realities and human experiences in the studied context. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with religious and community leaders, and documentation, to comprehensively capture social realities and understand the experiences, values, and meanings embedded in community life. Data analysis was conducted through stages of data reduction, presentation, and thematic conclusion drawing to identify patterns of meaning, values, and human dynamics. The findings indicate that IRE is manifested in socio-religious activities integrated with local wisdom, such as mutual cooperation, deliberation, adat-based religious events, and social care practices that foster solidarity, togetherness, and mutual respect. The integration of religious values and local wisdom plays a crucial role in building social harmony, strengthening inter-community solidarity, and sustaining Islamic values in a culturally meaningful way. The study concludes that IRE integrated with local wisdom is an effective approach to developing a religious, inclusive, and humanistic community life deeply rooted in local culture.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which was discovered by Robert Koch in 1882. The bacterium is rod-shaped, with a width of 0.3–0.6 μm and a length of 1–4 μm. It is transmitted through the air, for example, when an infected person coughs or sneezes. TB diagnosis is typically performed through microscopic analysis of sputum samples. TB is a serious infectious disease and remains a global health concern. Rapid and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment, yet conventional methods are often time-consuming and less precise. This study developed a TB bacterial image classification system for sputum samples using a Backpropagation Neural Network (BPNN). The system differentiates between single and clustered bacteria using length, endpoints, and branching features. The dataset consisted of 120 images, divided into 60 training and 60 testing samples. All images were processed using preprocessing techniques to enhance image quality. The length, endpoints, and branching features were extracted from the images and used as input to the BPNN. The results showed that the BPNN method could classify TB bacterial images with an accuracy of 86%. The system was also able to distinguish single and clustered bacteria more accurately, potentially contributing to improved TB diagnosis.

Abstract

Although artificial intelligence has gained growing attention in language education, previous research has largely emphasized technical effectiveness and student outcomes, while teachers’ professional experiences remain insufficiently examined. This study explores how Indonesian EFL lecturers perceive the use of artificial intelligence in academic writing instruction, how they adjust their pedagogical practices, and how these experiences shape their professional development and professional identity, particularly in writing assessment. Employing a phenomenological approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and teaching documents involving twelve lecturers from East Java and Central Indonesian regions. The findings reveal interconnected experiences influenced by institutional readiness, access to digital infrastructure, and lecturers’ pedagogical beliefs. Participants reported a shift in professional identity from primary evaluators of student writing toward facilitators who guide learners in critically engaging with artificial intelligence-generated feedback. In the absence of systematic institutional training, lecturers relied heavily on informal peer communities as spaces for learning, reflection, and sharing instructional strategies. The study suggests that professional development for artificial intelligence-supported writing instruction should move beyond technical orientation and provide sustained, context-sensitive support that integrates ethical awareness, reflective practice, and collaborative learning. While the qualitative design and limited number of participants require cautious interpretation, the findings contribute to broader discussions on teacher professional development in technologically evolving educational contexts.
