Abstract

The background of this study is the various challenges in Arabic language learning at MTs Ma'ariful Ulum Banyuasin, such as low teaching effectiveness, limited facilities, and minimal use of digital technology in the teaching and learning process. These problems require a managerial and pedagogical approach that can improve the quality of learning in a sustainable manner. This study aims to describe the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) in Arabic language learning at the madrasah. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and the head of the madrasah, as well as documentation of teaching tools and learning journals. The results of the study show that TQM principles have been thoroughly internalized in three main aspects of learning, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. At the planning stage, teachers and madrasah principals conduct collaborative evaluations and analyze student needs to develop relevant teaching tools. In practice, teachers implement active, communicative, and contextual learning, and adapt methods and media to students' learning styles. Formative and summative evaluations are conducted using authentic instruments, portfolios, and learning journals as a basis for decision making. In addition, reflective practices through internal MGMPs, student learning satisfaction surveys, and appreciation for teacher innovation demonstrate the continuous strengthening of a culture of quality. Despite constraints such as limited facilities and digitization, the implementation of TQM has proven to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of Arabic language learning. These findings confirm that TQM can be effectively applied not only at the managerial level but also directly in the classroom.

Abstract

Abstract

The rise of Muslim housing in Lombok excites the question of whether it indicates people’s religiosity reinforcement or religious symbol exploitation in business. Exclusive residences for a particular religious community may seed spatial and social segregation. Religiously separated houses may threaten social integration. This article is based on field research focusing on Muslim housing developers’ motives, consumers’ reasons, and the dynamic interaction of Muslim housing residents and its impact on social integration. This study shows that religious commodification in the property business allures consumers, particularly urban Muslims. Religious commodification also affirms Islamic identity but does not contribute to the piety enhancement of Muslim housing residents. Furthermore, Muslim housing development does not disrupt social interaction and cooperation among people in a multicultural society. Exclusivism and religious extremism are not troublesome. However, the potential of sporadic Islamic sectarianism to a comparatively small degree in some Muslim residential complexes should be taken into consideration.

Abstract

This study examines the reciprocal relationships between the Knowledge Index (KI), the Community Literacy Development Index (CLDI), and the Level of Reading Interest (LRI) across 27 districts/cities in West Java (2024). Using a quantitative design with Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling and a conditional process perspective, we test direct and feedback effects among the three constructs. Descriptive statistics indicate substantial variation in literacy development and reading interest across regions. Model fit indices exceed conventional thresholds, supporting the adequacy of the specified structure. The results show that KI has a significant positive effect on both CLDI and LRI, indicating that accumulated schooling and knowledge capital translate into stronger literacy ecosystems and more active reading behaviors. Conversely, both CLDI and LRI exert significant positive effects on KI, evidencing a reinforcing cycle in which richer literacy environments and higher reading engagement further elevate knowledge attainment. These findings highlight a virtuous, bidirectional dynamic: knowledge deepens literacy and reading, while literacy investment and reading practice amplify knowledge. Policy implications include prioritizing integrated literacy programs across the life course, leveraging digital access, and coordinating libraries, schools, and local governments to simultaneously lift ecosystem quality and individual reading practices. The study provides actionable evidence for place-based literacy policy and human capital formation in emerging regions.

Abstract

This study highlights the ideal ratio between the number of lecturers and students in Islamic Education classes at the Faculty of Economics, Udayana University, Bali. With only one lecturer teaching 200 students, this imbalance is a significant concern, especially amidst worries about the spread of extremism and exclusivism on campus. The research aims to evaluate the learning process, religious moderation attitudes among lecturers and students, and factors influencing religious moderation attitudes among students. Using a qualitative descriptive method and a case study design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires, and analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The findings indicate that the ratio of Islamic Education lecturers to students does not meet government standards, despite the implementation of various teaching methods. Nevertheless, attitudes towards religious moderation are generally positive, although there are indications of a lack of moderation among some students. Internal and external factors were identified as influencing factors on religious moderation attitudes. These findings emphasize the need for ongoing efforts to improve the quality of Islamic Education learning through enhancing lecturer competencies and implementing programs to strengthen religious moderation in higher education, aiming to promote tolerance and reinforce religious moderation among students.

Abstract

The ability to read the Quran is a fundamental skill in religious education for students in schools. Co-curricular programs can play an important role in improving this ability. This study aims to explore the implementation of co-curricular programs in improving the ability to read the Quran in primary schools. This study used a qualitative approach with an analytical description design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and parents, as well as observation of learning activities. The research subjects consisted of 30 students who participated in the co-curricular Quran reading program for one semester. The results showed that the implementation of this co-curricular program contributed positively to the improvement of students' Quran reading skills. Teachers reported significant improvements in students' Quran reading proficiency, as shown through increased evaluation scores. In addition, parents' involvement in supporting the program was also a determining factor in the success of students' improvement. This study indicates that a well-designed co-curricular program can be an effective solution in improving Quran reading skills. The findings emphasize the importance of collaboration between teachers, students and parents in creating a supportive learning environment. Recommendations for future research include the development of a more structured program as well as a long-term evaluation of the sustainability of improving Quran reading skills.
