Abstract

Education is an effort to develop the human potentials of students, both their physical potential, their creative potential, taste and intention, so that this potential becomes real and can function in their life journey. The politics of education in question is manifested in the government's strategic policies in the field of education. The expected education politics is, of course, educational politics that side with the small or poor people. This study uses library research methods (Library Research). Which data previously collected was based on library data and did not use empirical tests. The politics and power of a country holds the key to the success of education. In the context of democratization and decentralization development in Indonesia, the role of executive and legislative politics to advance education is enormous. The realm of politics and power must be able to realize an education system that educates and enlightens the civilization of this nation. A nation with bad educational politics will have poor educational performance. On the other hand, a country with good educational politics will also have good educational performance. Since independence until the reform era, the political journey of national education has undergone three changes, namely in the Old Order era, in 1954, in the New Order era, and currently in the reform era.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the acculturation and assimilation processes that ethnic Chinese in West Sumatra undergo upon converting to Islam, that the conversion does not lead to an outright abandonment of traditions. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive analysis approach, this research underscores how religious conversion fundamentally alters an individual's worldview and behavior. Converts to Islam are encouraged to earnestly learn and adhere to Sharia and Islamic teachings, initiating their spiritual journey with religious observances and distancing themselves from practices associated with their former beliefs. However, the conversion process is significantly influenced by one's environment, which plays a pivotal role in shaping the assimilation and acculturation experience of ethnic Chinese Muslims. This environment encompasses both familial and social contexts. The family environment, where individuals are connected by kinship—whether as children, spouses, or other familial roles—is marked by intensive interaction and communication. Yet, this close-knit communication does not necessarily guarantee a seamless conversion to another faith. Beyond the family, the surrounding social environment, including the workplace, extended family, and broader societal interactions, also impacts the conversion journey. Within these spheres, various factors either facilitate or hinder the process of embracing Islam for ethnic Chinese individuals. This study delves into these dynamics, examining the multifaceted influences on religious conversion and the subsequent negotiation between maintaining cultural heritage and adopting new religious identities. Through this analysis, the research seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between religion, culture, and identity among ethnic Chinese Muslims in West Sumatra

Abstract

Abstract

This article aims to shed light on Abu's (a Dayah leader in Aceh) paradigm and strategy in reorienting Islamic education inside the dayah educational framework in the last two decades. Even now, the Acehnese people's socio-religious life still accepts and includes the traditional Islamic educational institution known as dayah. However, Dayah must adapt to the dynamics of the changing times to ensure its graduates to participate more fully in society. The Dayah in West-South and East-North coasts of Aceh are the subjects of this qualitative study using a multi-site case study. They are Dayah Asasul Islamiyah in East Aceh, Dayah Madinatuddiniyah Nurul Huda in North Aceh, Dayah Madinatuddiniyah Darul 'Ulumiddin in Southwest Aceh, and Dayah Darussalam Labuhan Haji in South Aceh. The research data was gathered through purposeful-snowballing in-depth interviewing techniques with a variety of informants, including Abu as the dayah's leader. After that, the data is processed using interactive analytic procedures, which include condensing, presenting, and concluding. According to the study's findings, Aceh's dayah leaders' (Abu) paradigm has shifted from being exclusive and orthodox to being inclusive and flexible during the dayah's current period of development. The Mua'dalah programme and the higher education programme Ma'had Aly were both implemented as part of Abu's strategy to reorient Islamic education in dayah, as well as the training of human resources to become educators,
