Abstract

In this paper, we report a comparative study on two methods (chemical reduction and photo-assisted deposition) of incorporating Pt onto TiO2 nanoparticles (TNP) for H2 generation. The phase structure of the photocatalysts was scrutinized utilizing TEM and XRD. The degree of dispersion of Pt on the TNP was calculated by a pulse chemisorption technique using TPDRO equipment. The results provided by TEM imagery, EDX spectra, elemental mapping, and AAS confirmed the successful deposition of Pt on TNP. XRD patterns confirmed an anatase and rutile crystallite structure, while UV-Vis spectra showed reduction of the bandgap from a typical value of 3.2 eV to ca. 2.9 eV. It was found that there is a correlation between the deposited Pt and dispersed Pt on the TNP with H2 generation. The chemical reduction method offered a higher degree of Pt deposition, resulting in a 2.75 times larger amount of deposited Pt compared to photodeposition. This feature is perceived to contribute a higher H2 yield (3,283 µmol) at 1 w% of Pt loading.

Abstract

Nowadays, the lack of renewable energy such as hydrogen, and other environmental issues are problems that must be resolved. 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) is classified as a recalcitrant pollutant due to its carcinogenic properties, high toxicity, and dangers to the environment therefore it needs to be eliminated. Hydrogen production using organic pollutant (2,4,6-TCP solution) as a hole scavenger on CdS-TiO2 nanotube arrays photocatalyst (TNTA-CdS) has been investigated at various CdS loading on TNTA and the initial concentration of 2,4,6-TCP. The TNTA sample was prepared by anodization and followed by an electrodeposition method to decorate CdS on TNTA. The H2 which was generated by reduction H+ and the 2,4,6-TCP removal was performed simultaneously by photocatalysis with TNTA-CdS as photocatalyst. The mole ratio of CdCl2:CH3CSNH2 as precursors of CdS deposited on TNTA (CdS loading) were 0.1:0.06, 0.2:0.12, and 0.4:0.24 and the initial concentration of 2,4,6-TCP were 10, 20 and 40 ppm. Meanwhile, the photocatalytic performance of the variations in CdS loading on TNTA and initial concentration of 2,4,6-TCP toward hydrogen generation was investigated in a photoreactor for 240 minutes under visible light irradiation with a mercury lamp as a photon source. The CdS decorating on TNTA was confirmed by SEM, EDX, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization. According to the UV-Vis and XRD analysis, the TNTA-CdS samples have bandgap energies in the range of 2.71 - 2.89 eV and comprise a 100% anatase phase. Based on the photocatalysis results, the optimum composition of CdS loading is 0.2:0.16 (TNTA-CdS-2) which produced the highest total hydrogen (2.155 mmol/g) compared to the other compositions and produced 1.5 times higher compared to TNTA at 40 ppm of 2,4,6-TCP.

Abstract

In this study, Fe- and Ag-modified TiO2 nanotubes were synthesized via an anodization method as photocatalysts for degradation of polyethylene microplastics and disinfection of Escherichia coli (E. coli). The anodization voltage, as well as the Fe3+ or Ag+ concentrations on TiO2 nanotubes were evaluated and correlated to their corresponding photocatalytic properties. TiO2 nanotubes were firstly synthesized by anodization of Ti plates in a glycerol-based electrolyte, followed by incorporation of either Fe or Ag via a Successive Ionic Layer Adsorption and Reaction (SILAR) method with Fe(NO3)3 and AgNO3 as Fe and Ag precursors, respectively. UV-Vis DRS shows that the addition of Fe or Ag on TiO2 nanotubes causes a redshift in the absorption spectra. The X-ray diffractograms indicate that, in the case of Fe-modified samples, Fe3+ was successfully incorporated into TiO2 lattice, while Ag scatters around the surface of the tubes as Ag and Ag2O nanoparticles. A microplastic degradation test was carried out for 90 mins inside a photoreactor with UVC illumination. TiO2 nanotubes that are anodized with a voltage of 30 V exhibit the best degradation results with 17.33% microplastic weight loss in 90 mins. Among the modified TiO2 nanotubes, 0.03 M Ag-TiO2 was the only one that surpassed the unmodified TiO2 in terms of microplastic degradation in the water, offering up to 18% microplastic weight loss in 90 min. In terms of E. coli disinfection, 0.03M Ag-TiO2 exhibit better performance than its unmodified counterpart, revealing 99.999% bactericidal activities in 10 mins. Abstract

This study used CdS as a pair of TiO2 Nanotube Arrays (TNTAs), considering the position and width of the energy band gap, which is expected to increase photocatalyst performance. The nancomposite was synthesized using the successive ionic layer adsorption reaction (SILAR) method, with Cd(CH3COO)2 and Na2S as precursors. The CdS/TNTAs nanocomposite is expected to reduce the energy band gap to enable the visible and UV spectrum to activate the photocatalyst. Additionally, the formed heterojunction mechanism provides opportunities for the trajectories of electrons and holes to be farther apart and reduce the recombination rate. The degradation ability of CdS/TNTAs nanocomposite in the photocatalytic process was evaluated using samples of ciprofloxacin liquid waste as an antibiotic, which is quite challenging to decompose completely. The ability of the photocatalytic process to produce hydrogen gas was also observed and its performance synergized with the electrocoagulation process. The result showed that the use of CdS as a TNTAs partner in CdS/TNTAs nanocomposites affects increasing photocatalyst performance, both in degrading ciprofloxacin and producing hydrogen gas. Furthermore, the CdS/TNTAs nanocomposite increased the photocatalytic process’s ability to degrade ciprofloxacin and produce hydrogen from 8.5 to 20.5% and 6 to 23.5 mmol/m2 compared to using TNTAs alone. The processing capability is further enhanced when run in synergy with the electrocoagulation process where the removal of ciprofloxacin reaches 86.55%  and the hydrogen produced is 2.62×106 mmol/m2. Abstract

A novel approach, namely photocatalytic esterification and addition reaction of unsaturated fatty acids using CuO/TiO2 catalyst has been investigated in kemiri sunan oil. The objectives of this study are to reduce the free fatty acid (FFA) content by using catalyst CuO/TiO2, characterization of the catalyst  and the operation condition of reaction. The CuO/TiO2 catalyst was synthesized by the impregnation of TiO2 P25 powder with copper nitrate solution as a precursor and followed by calcination. The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Transmission electron microscopes (TEM) result showed that copper oxide was highly dispersed on the TiO2 surface. The X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) result showed that Cu is in the state of CuO (Cu2+), while Ti is in Ti4+ ( TiO2). The bandgap energy of CuO/TiO2 was smaller than TiO2 P25. It was  found that the reactions conducted in the presence of CuO/TiO2 in a photoreactor under UV irradiation can  perform esterification and addition reaction of the FFA,  simultaneously. The optimum reduction of the FFA was under condition of 4% loading CuO/TiO2, 4 hours reaction time, 30:1 (mole/mole) methanol to oil ratio, 5% (w/w) catalyst amount. The conversion of  FFA was at around 59%. The Gas Chromatography—Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) results showed that the addition reaction of -eleostearic acid simultaneously occured at 100% conversion. Although the photocatalyst selectivity in FFA reduction was relatively  low, but double bond reduction of -eleostearic acid (C18:3) was very high. The reduction of multiple double bond is considered as positive poin to improve the oxidative stability of the product. The simultaneous esterification and addition reactions mechanism has been proposed. Copyright © 2021 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. Abstract

The CuO-nanoleaf/g-Al2O3 catalyst was synthesized through wet chemical impregnation and had promising catalytic activity in reducing p-Nitrophenol (PNP) into p-Aminophenol (PAP). The synthesis was conducted in situ with Ethylene Glycol as a stabilizer agent of the CuO-nanoleaf structure and g-Al2O3 as catalyst support with high adsorption ability. Furthermore, the crystal phase, morphology, element composition, and specific surface area were investigated by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), and N2 adsorption-desorption, respectively. The XRD pattern showed the crystal phase of CuO and g-Al2O3 in the composite, and the morphology was successfully reported using FESEM. The increase in the specific surface area of the catalyst indicates that the CuO material was well composited in g-Al2O3. The catalyst has good activity in reducing PNP to PAP with 93.53% PNP conversion within 4 min. In addition, the reduction reaction of PNP with excess NaBH4 could be categorized as pseudo-first order kinetic with a constant rate of 0.6935 min−1 for CuO-nanoleaf/g-Al2O3 catalyst. The loading catalyst and temperature reaction effect on PNP conversion were also investigated. The results showed that 94.18% PNP conversion was obtained within only 2.5 min under the optimized conditions. Copyright © 2022 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. Abstract

Abstract

Technological progress certainly requires that various fields can adapt to technology, especially in the field of education. Various innovations continue to be made by the government to improve the technology-based education system. The government policy, namely the School Literacy Movement (SLM), contains one of its components: digital literacy. This is one form of the education government's response to technological advances and making use of them. However, the implementation could be more optimal because the use of technology in this school should be carried out as it should. This research was conducted using library research, namely by collecting various articles by reading, taking notes, and managing various sources. The results of this study indicate that hoax news is still being spread. Namely, the information obtained needs to be filtered first. This, of course, also occurs because technology facilitates access to various information. Student delinquency in digital use is also a form of failure, and many students still abuse the use of technology. Because the information obtained is absorbed raw and the existing technology needs to be used properly, this also causes digital-based learning to be ineffective.
