Abstract

This research focuses on the prophetic leadership style practised in two higher education institutions, namely Nurul Jadid University Probolinggo and Muhammadiyah University Malang. This prophetic leadership style is a leadership style that can develop, encourage and create superior (Islamic) educational institutional units that have other prestigious educational qualities. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type of research to understand the leadership phenomenon in these two sites. Data were collected through interviews, participant observation, and documentaries. Next, the data was analyzed using Miles, Hubermann and Saldana interactive analysis. This research concludes that the leaders of the FAI UNUJA and FAI UMM institutions have a prophetic leadership style, which is demonstrated through their roles as quality control, political power, and political will (goodwill). From this leadership style, prophetic nuances emerge in institutional governance, which refers to 4 (four) pillars: theological-monotheistic, empirical-demonstrative, rational-philosophical, and theoretical stakes. The four pillars of prophetic management in the two research sites ultimately gave birth to a prophetic leadership style, which is essentially based on the three epistemological frameworks of Burhani, Bayani, and Irfani.

Abstract

This research analyses how to improve learning outcomes through an integrated literacy approach in madrasah. This research uses a qualitative case study approach. The research subjects consisted of the principal, deputy head of student affairs, deputy head of curriculum, head of the library, teachers, and students. Data collection techniques use interview observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in learning outcomes compared to the control group. An integrated literacy approach has proven effective in increasing students' understanding of subject matter, critical thinking skills, and interest in reading. This approach also helps students link knowledge from various scientific disciplines to make learning more meaningful and contextual. This research suggests that madrasah consider implementing integrated literacy as a learning strategy to improve the quality of education and student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of Electronic Word of Mouth (E-WOM) on public trust in Islamic boarding schools, using Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School as a case study. Applying symbolic interactionism, the research aims to understand how E-WOM shapes public perceptions in this educational context. A qualitative approach employing naturalistic phenomenology and descriptive analysis involving observations, interviews, and documentation was used. The findings indicate that E-WOM, utilized since 2018 at Nurul Jadid, has significantly enhanced the school's public image and trust, notably increasing student enrollment and international attention. Key strategies include effective digital content creation and audience engagement. However, the study’s focus on a single institution suggests the need for broader research to generalize these findings. Implications for educational administrators and policymakers include strategic insights for digital communication and public engagement. This research contributes to the academic discourse in communication and educational studies, offering a novel application of symbolic interactionism in digital communication. Future research should examine E-WOM’s long-term effects on institutional reputation and explore its application in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia are growing rapidly, yet many still struggle to maintain competitiveness and community trust. This study examines the influence of service quality and work commitment on preferences in choosing pesantren, with patronage figures (kyai) as mediating variables. Using a quantitative explanatory causal design, data were collected from 380 respondents, consisting of students and guardians at Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School, East Java. The data were analyzed with Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling. The results reveal that service quality significantly affects both patronage figures (β = 0.502, p < 0.001) and preferences (β = 0.243, p < 0.01), whereas work commitment significantly influences patronage figures (β = 0.354, p < 0.001) but has no direct effect on preferences (β = 0.096, p = 0.212). Patronage figures have the strongest impact on preferences (β = 0.539, p < 0.001) and mediate the effects of both service quality (β = 0.475, p < 0.001) and work commitment (β = 0.233, p < 0.001). These findings confirm that technical factors such as service quality and teacher commitment shape community preferences only when reinforced by the authority and legitimacy of kyai leadership. The study advances the SERVQUAL and Social Exchange frameworks in faith-based education and suggests that pesantren should integrate service improvements with stronger leadership visibility to sustain community loyalty and institutional competitiveness. The research implies that to effectively increase community preference for Islamic boarding school institutions (pesantren), institutions must not only focus on tangible improvements in service quality but also strategically emphasize the selection and visibility of a respected patronage figure (kyai) who possesses strong legitimacy in the eyes of the community.

Abstract

Mythomania behavior among adolescents is a serious problem in education because it is often considered to be addressed only through rewards and punishments. The purpose of this study is to understand how Kindness-Based Pedagogy can be used to reduce mythomania behavior in adolescents, particularly at Miftahul Ulum Islamic High School, a school in a rural area with a religious background. This study used a qualitative method with a case study design involving students, teachers, and school documents as data sources, which were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The analysis was conducted through reduction, grouping, and narrative interpretation. The results of the study show that five kindness strategies—empathetic listening, compassionate correction, modeling kindness, peer support through circles of kindness, reflective practice with gratitude and kindness journals—are effective in creating a safe emotional environment, fostering honesty, and reducing students' tendency to lie. This research contributes to the development of humanistic pedagogy literature by providing a more empathetic, relevant, and sustainable approach compared to traditional models.

Abstract

The study aims to identify how anti-bullying policies can build student resilience in dealing with bullying. This resilience functions as a fortress that protects students from the impact of the mistreatment they receive. This research method uses a qualitative approach. This qualitative approach was chosen to obtain broad and in-depth information about building student resilience through anti-bullying risk management—a qualitative approach with a phenomenological type is used to examine subjects such as behavior, motivation, and actions. The study results indicate that student resilience can be built through anti-bullying risk management by identifying bullying risks and receiving support from caregivers, counselors, and teacher support so that students can build resilience well. The implications of this study indicate that by placing bullying risks early on and providing support from caregivers, counselors, and teacher support, students can obtain better emotional protection and build mental strength to face difficult situations. Another aspect is that Islamic boarding schools need to establish a secure, encouraging, and supportive setting for students' growth.
