Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the clause system used by the Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim in his National Teacher’s Day Speech for the 2020-2022 period using Halliday’s perspective. This research is descriptive qualitative research obtained through reading techniques and note-taking techniques. The results of this research show that there are two clause systems used by Nadiem Makarim, namely indicative clauses and imperative clauses. In the 2020-2022 National Teachers Day speech, it was found that declarative indicative clauses were more dominant than imperative clauses. This shows that in his speech Nadiem Makarim conveyed more information or statement than giving offers or orders to the listeners.

Abstract

The integration of Islamic law into Indonesia's national legal system continues to provoke significant constitutional and institutional discourse, particularly in the case of Aceh's Sharia Court (Mahkamah Syariah). Established under the special autonomy granted by Article 18 B of the 1945 Constitution, the court implemented Qanun Jinayat, an Islamic criminal code that operates within the national legal framework. This unique judicial structure highlights Indonesia's commitment to legal pluralism, while simultaneously exposing tensions between Islamic norms, human rights principles, and national legislative coherence. This study examined the legal status, institutional authority, and normative functions of the Syaria Court through the lens of constitutional law and legal pluralism. It adopts a normative legal research methodology that combines deductive reasoning, historical analysis, and case studies, and is supported by statutory documents, judicial rulings, and relevant literature. By framing the court as a hybrid institution shaped by regional autonomy and national oversight, this article offers a conceptual model of functional recognition, rather than hierarchical subordination. The findings reveal that Mahkamah Syaria exercises jurisdiction over both civil and criminal matters based on Islamic law. However, challenges remain in harmonising procedural standards, ensuring legal certainty, and accommodating plural citizenship, particularly in cases involving non-Muslim minorities. Despite these tensions, courts play a growing role in mediating religious legal traditions and constitutional imperatives. This article contributes to the broader academic discourse on judicial hybridity in decentralised states. It provides a new perspective on the adaptive function of religious courts within democratic legal systems, and proposes pathways for strengthening integration without eroding institutional pluralism.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities in the development of the academic potential of gifted students within the context of educational psychology. Gifted students often face challenges related to the mismatch between the existing curriculum and their intellectual abilities, which can lead to boredom, decreased motivation, and social-emotional difficulties. On the other hand, there are opportunities to address these challenges through differentiated teaching approaches, the use of educational technology, and enhanced social support. This research is a literature study aimed at reviewing and analyzing various literature related to educational psychology in the context of gifted students. The study uses a qualitative approach by collecting data and information from various secondary sources such as books, academic journals, articles, research reports, and other related documents. The study aims to gain a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the development of the academic potential of gifted students, as well as the role of educational psychology in supporting them. The findings underline the importance of personalized teaching and strong social and emotional support in fostering the development of gifted students. This research provides insights for educators and policymakers in designing educational programs that can optimize the potential of gifted students across various educational settings.

Abstract

This study aims to elaborate on The Beatles band through a study of one of its songs called Yellow Submarine. This study uses the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach, an approach that aims to describe, interpret, and critically explain in a qualitative manner about how discourse builds, maintains, and legitimizes social inequalities. A number of relevant primary and secondary literatures were studied and analyzed critically to understand and recognize the process of creating, producing, broadcasting, concert performance, and public reception for the song Yellow Submarine by the Beatles and its socio-cultural context. The results of the study showed that this song was dedicated to children who lost the joy and delight of their childhood due to ideological conflicts (capitalism-communism), social tensions, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, drugs, etc., in the 1960s. Although this song has been associated with various interpretations, ranging from drugs, money, war, peace, cowardice to death, most of The Beatles’ fans and observers believe there is an element of joy and delight that they would like to present to their children. They gave joy and delight, especially to children, when the state failed to provide them.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease (NCD) with a high morbidity rate and is the third leading cause of death in Indonesia. Some risk factors are associated with the risk of DM; yet, little is known about the effect of such factors on the occurrence of DM in an urban worker population.Purpose: This study aimed to examine the impact of some risk factors on the occurrence of DM among workers in urban areas of Indonesia. Methods: The study used secondary health status data obtained from the 2018 Basic Health Research by the Research and Development Agency, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia, using a cross-sectional approach. The participants consisted of 15,745 urban working adults aged 15-64 years, whose blood glucose levels were examined. The correlation between variables was analyzed using a multivariate logistic regression test. Results: This study showed that 14.8% of DM patients had hypertension, and 14.9% were obese. The percentage of women with diabetes increased with age, particularly affecting informal workers more frequently. Hypertension (aOR=1.76; 95%CI: 1.56-1.99), central obesity (aOR=1.75; 95%CI: 1.54-1.98), daily smoking (aOR=0.63; 95%CI: 0.53-0.76), and age (aOR=8.9; 95%CI: 5.3-15.7) were identified as significant factors contributing to the risk of DM. However, education, physical activity, the consumption of fruits and vegetables, and employment had no discernible impact. Conclusion: Hypertension, obesity, daily smoking, and age were associated with an increased risk of DM in urban workers. The study recommends that companies collaborate with Posbindu for NCDs to check blood pressure and blood sugar levels regularly, and to measure the height and weight of workers periodically.
