Abstract

Professionalism of educators is crucial for high-quality learning. To this end, the education study program implemented an internship program to provide direct experience for students (prospective teachers) and engage them in the active and ongoing process of teacher identity construction. However, the increased professionalism of prospective English teachers from this programme is still questionable. This study aimed at i) explaining the importance of collaborative teaching (co-teaching), ii) describing the practice of co-teaching between English mentor of Thai schools and Indonesian prospective teachers, and iii) exploring how co-teaching strategy develops teachers’ professionalism. It applies a descriptive qualitative approach, using observation and interviews. The subject of this study involved two English mentors and two prospective teachers who joined the internship program in Thai schools. The research findings revealed that co-teaching is very important and helpful for prospective teachers in developing teacher professionalism. In this case, English mentors and prospective teachers collaborate since planning stage, implementing the lesson plans developed, and evaluating process. As result, the collaborative teachers indicated some improvement on their pedagogical competence, social competence, and also their English competence.

Abstract

Abstract

In Indonesia, several training pieces have been conducted to develop HOTS-based science questions for elementary school teachers. However, few studies examine how elementary school teachers developed HOTS-based science questions. Hence, the current study is a case study that aims to analyze HOTS-based science questions developed by elementary school teachers in Indonesia. This study employed a descriptive-analytical method by analyzing 60 HOTS-based science questions developed by elementary school teachers in Boyolali, Indonesia, on February 22, 2020. This study involved two raters from one of Indonesia's universities, who are experts in assessing learning for elementary school level to assess the questions. The aspects that are assessed are aspects of conformity with HOTS questions criteria, conformity with the criteria of thinking ability of elementary school students, and conformity with the quality of good questions. This study's findings show that many problems do not meet the first aspect, especially at non-algorithmic points, multiple ways, and multiple interpretations. Next, in the second aspect, most of the question does not use illustration to strengthen the developed question's information. The third aspect is a relatively fulfilled aspect by most developed questions. However, only a few developed questions are judged not to meet this aspect. Hopefully, this study's findings can be an evaluation material for policymakers in education to increase the training quality of HOTS-based science questions for elementary school level in Indonesia.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to identify and formulate the strengths of character and virtue, according to Ibn Miskawaih and Imam Al-Ghazali. The study was carried out with a qualitative approach with the type of literature review, by tracing both books, especially journals related to the strength of character and virtues formulated by positive psychology. The data analysis was carried out in a descriptive-reflective-introspective way with the perspective of Islamic psychology. The results of the study show that in terms of the number and composition of the strengths of character and values of virtue developed by positive psychology and the psychology of Islamic education, which in this case is represented by the thoughts of Ibn Miskawaih and Imam Al-Ghazali, are not significantly different. There is little difference between the strength of the character of positive psychology and the psychology of Islamic education. The difference is that there is a middle point or middle way in the thoughts of Ibn Miskawaih and Imam Al-Ghazali. The shari'ah commands this midpoint or middle path; the goal is to achieve an intermediate path to all the qualities and qualities of virtue; if it deviates towards one of the two extremes, then it must be corrected. These findings can provide a valuable contribution to guidance and counseling services through strengthening character and virtue in the current era of global communication.

Abstract

The transformational educational leadership approach that inspires and motivates teams to achieve extraordinary results is not devoid of any challenges. Educational leaders must be progressive in innovation, inclusiveness, and adaptation to the changing times. They must skilfully communicate emerging challenges to help teams in the educational environment. Perception differences lead to conflicts, thus impacting team communication and collaboration, which in turn affects the achievement of organisational or institution’s goals. This study aims to determine the role of interpersonal communication skills in progressive educational leadership and outline the patterns of interpersonal communication associated in progressive educational leadership. Through the use of narrative literature review methods, these studies show that educational leadership must be progressive in facing the challenges of changing times, and the need for interpersonal communication skills to make this happen. Interpersonal communication is an important element in progressive educational leadership. Many scholarly sources have been reviewed and analysed to support these findings. The study identifies key interpersonal communication skills in progressive educational leadership, such as active listening, clear messaging, empathy, respect for diversity, team collaboration facilitation, effective feedback provision, evidence-based communication, conflict resolution, and the ability to inspire and motivate staff and students. In addition to providing a comprehensive overview of interpersonal communication in progressive educational leadership.

Abstract

This study aims to provide educational resources in the form of worksheets based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) principles and focus on the topic of equal fractions. The main criteria for these resources are validity, feasibility, and effectiveness. The development methodology employed in this study is the ADDIE model, which encompasses the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The participants of this study consisted of 14 pupils enrolled in class IV at SDM Alam Surakarta. The assessment tools employed consisted of assessments on student learning outcomes about equivalent fractions and supplementary materials in the form of questionnaires, interview guides, and observation sheets. The examination of the data reveals that the learning tools have achieved a high level of validity, falling inside the extremely valid category, with an average score of 4.26. The feasibility test for the LKS, conducted by the assisting instructor, yielded an average score of 4.4. The pupils' performance on the LKS assessment yielded an average score of 4.89, placing them in the "very feasible" category. The classical student learning outcomes achieved a completeness of 85.71%, as evidenced by an average score of 80.35. Notably, 12 students attained a complete score. There is a noticeable upward trend in student engagement during each learning session. The findings from the data analysis conducted on instructors' competencies in managing RME-based learning revealed an average score of 92, indicating a high level of proficiency. Students who were qualitatively integrated into the eligibility questionnaire also expressed positive responses. Therefore, learning tools based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) exhibit high validity, feasibility, and effectiveness in educational settings, as they have been empirically demonstrated to enhance students' mathematical proficiency.
