Abstract

English language learning in higher elementary school grades still faces challenges in effectively integrating 21st-century skills, thus requiring an instructional model that can simultaneously foster character, citizenship, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication, such as the RADEC model with a 6Cs orientation. This study examines the influence of the RADEC (Read-Answer-Discuss-Explain-Create) learning model on enhancing 21st-century skills—Character, Citizenship, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication (6Cs)—among sixth-grade elementary students in English language learning. Utilising a one-group pretest-posttest design, the research involved 20 students aged around 12 years over eight meetings. Data were gathered using instruments constructed to evaluate cognitive and behavioural competencies aligned with the 6Cs framework. The results, analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, indicated statistically significant improvements across all six skills (p < 0.05), with large effect sizes (r > 0.8), highlighting the substantial influence of the RADEC learning model. These findings suggest that the RADEC learning model encourages active participation, independent learning, and collaboration, making it a promising instructional model for cultivating essential 21st-century competencies in primary education. Further research is recommended to explore its application across diverse student populations and educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to identify trends in systems thinking research within the context of science education over the past decade and providing education researchers with a global perspective on the development of systems thinking. The bibliometric analysis research method is a quantitative approach used to analyze scientific literature to identify trends, publication patterns, collaborations between authors or institutions, and emerging research topics in a field of science.  The data used for bibliometric analysis is the research trend of systems thinking in science learning from 2014 to 2024, based on the Scopus database, utilizing the R Package Bibliometric and VosViewer Software. The obtained articles were then processed using thematic analysis techniques with the R Bibliometric Package to analyze primary information, annual scientific publications, article citations per year, total citations of top journals, Sankey diagrams, top author production, countries with the highest productivity, most productive affiliations, and thematic maps. The findings of this study indicate that research on systems thinking in science learning has experienced an annual growth rate of 9.6% and an average citation rate of 13.6 citations per document. Furthermore, it analyzes the thematic mapping of the obtained keywords, where the motor themes in this study such as curriculum, teaching, elementary school, student learning, and system theory are well-developed and essential for shaping research in systems thinking in science learning. The thematic mapping reveals a strong interconnection among three key themes: systems thinking, science learning, and elementary schools. These themes hold significant potential and are highly relevant for further exploration due to their high centrality, yet they remain relatively underexplored to date. The study of systems thinking skills in science learning should also consider previous research findings related to sustainable development goals, climate change, gender similarity, and conceptual frameworks.

Abstract

Mathematical thinking skills represent fundamental cognitive capacities essential for fraction concept mastery in elementary education, yet traditional instructional approaches consistently fail to address persistent learning difficulties. The RADEC (Read-Answer-Discuss-Explain-Create) model offers a promising framework for enhancing mathematical thinking through systematic collaborative learning processes. This systematic literature review examined the effectiveness of RADEC implementation in developing mathematical thinking skills, particularly for fractional concept instruction in elementary settings. A comprehensive search across multiple databases including Google Scholar, JSTOR, ERIC, and PubMed identified 946 potentially relevant studies published between 2019-2023. Through systematic screening applying rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, 21 high-quality studies were selected for analysis using thematic synthesis methodology. The results demonstrate that RADEC implementation significantly improves conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, mathematical communication abilities, and higher-order thinking competencies compared to conventional instructional approaches. While no studies specifically examined RADEC with fractional content, the model's theoretical principles align closely with established best practices for fraction instruction, including collaborative discourse, concrete representations, and conceptual understanding development. Implementation challenges include variations in students' reading abilities, teacher preparedness requirements, and instructional resource limitations. The findings reveal a critical research gap regarding direct empirical testing of RADEC effectiveness with fractional content. This review contributes the first comprehensive synthesis linking RADEC principles with mathematical thinking development and fraction instruction, providing theoretical foundation for future empirical research while highlighting practical implementation requirements for educational practitioners.

Abstract

Sustainable environmental awareness is essential in shaping a generation capable of facing global environmental challenges. The study aimed to map the profile of sustainable environmental awareness of primary school students in Sorong District, considering gender differences and location (urban, suburban, and rural) across three main dimensions: knowledge, attitude, and behavior. Using a survey-based quantitative approach, data we recollected from 132 students through a Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that male students demonstrated superior conceptual understanding, while female students were more consistent in sustainable behavior. In addition, students in peripheral areas showed the highest awareness across all dimensions.Students in urban areas excelled in collective attitudes, while students in suburban areas had the low awareness. These findings indicate the need for action-based approaches to improve sustainable behavior in male students, community-based engagement for female students, and locally-based programs to increase awareness in the suburban between urban and rural regions. The study highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability education in science subjects, especially in regions with high biodiversity and complex environmental challenges. The findings provide valuable insights for teachers and policymakers in developing sustainability education programs that are contextualized and applicable in regions with similar sociology-environmental characteristics

Abstract

Learning mathematics at the Elementary School (SD) level is an important basis in building a good understanding of mathematical concepts in students. However, students often experience difficulties in understanding abstract and complex mathematical concepts. This can have an impact on reducing students' interest in learning mathematics. To overcome this problem, an audiobook based on RME (Realistic Mathematics Education) was developed which emphasizes the quality of sound recordings that are close to the experience of listening to voices directly, especially for mathematics materials at the elementary level. The research method used in this study is a research and development approach using the ADDIE model developed by Robert Maribe Branch. The ADDIE model is a development model consisting of five stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the study show that audiobooks based on RME are valid and can be implemented in learning. Based on these results, the RME-based audiobook is ready to be implemented on a large scale and used as an effective alternative learning media in increasing conceptual understanding and interest in learning mathematics for fourth grade elementary school students in multiplication material.

Abstract

Atomic structure material is one of the chemistry topics that is abstract and complex. Learning topics that contain abstract and complex material requires high-level reasoning and thinking. This research aims to describe students' actual abilities in atomic structure material using an e-module based on the RADEC model. This research method is development research that adapts the Borg & Gall design. The subjects of this research were 31 students in the experimental class and 37 students in the control class. This research was conducted at one of the high schools in the city of Bandung. Students' abilities are measured through pretest questions and assignment of pretest questions. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis and n-gain. This research showed that the actual competence of students in the experimental class had an n-gain of 0.58 and was in the medium category. In contrast, the actual competence of students in the control class had an n-gain of 0.29 and was in the low category. Thus, learning using e-modules based on the RADEC model can improve students' competence. The results of the student perception survey show that RADEC-based e-modules are very helpful in independent learning and completing assignments.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of socialization and workshops about the Read- Answer-Discuss-Explain-and Create (RADEC) learning model on teacher readiness to implement it. The investigation involved 92 teachers (elementary school, middle school, and high school teachers). The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of two parts. The first part questionnaire was given before the activity and was intended to reveal the experience of the teachers to implement currently familiar innovative learning models. The second part questionnaire was given after the activity and was intended to reveal the teachers' readiness to implement the RADEC learning model. Data were processed quantitatively and qualitatively. The research results of the first questionnaire show that teachers had not been able to implement currently familiar innovative learning models for various reasons. The research results of the second indicate that the social- ization and workshop can prepare teachers to implement the RADEC learning model. This can be seen from the majority of those who argue that (1) the syntax of the RADEC learning model is easy to remember and understand; (2) the RADEC learning model can practice 21st century skills; and (3) they are interested in researching the implementation of the RADEC learning model.

Abstract

Communication skills are one of the fundamental skills that all students must have. The role of the teacher is very influential on students' communication skills. One thing that can support the development of their communication skills is the learning model implemented by the teacher. Therefore, it is very important to use the right learning model to train students' communication skills. The aim of this research is to provide an overview of students' communication skills by applying the inquiry and RADEC learning models to material about the properties of light. The method in this research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the research subjects involving fifth grade students from one of the state elementary schools in Bandung City. Observation, interviews and documentation were used as data collection techniques. The data analysis technique in this research uses the Miles and Huberman model, namely, data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. Data validity was tested through a triangulation approach. The research results stated that the percentage of students' communication skills using the inquiry learning model reached 77.12%, while the percentage of students' communication skills using the RADEC learning model reached 80.34%. It can be concluded that the RADEC learning model has a more effective impact in training students' communication skills compared to the Inquiry learning model. However, both learning models still provide opportunities for students to participate actively and practice their communication skills.
