Abstract

This study analyses the difference in Trading Volume Activity (TVA) of issuers involved in the Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) development before and after Indonesia's 2024 presidential election. Using an event study approach, observations were made over 10 days before and after the election. The research used secondary quantitative data, including stock trading volume, number of shares outstanding, daily closing prices, and the Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG). A purposive sampling method was used to select 62 issuers. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test with SPSS 21 was applied to test the hypothesis. Results show a significant difference in TVA, indicating a positive capital market response to the 2024 election, suggesting high information content. Future research should consider a larger sample, more complex analysis, and a shorter observation period (e.g., 5 days) to minimise non-political influences such as dividends or stock splits. Investors are advised to consider issuer-specific factors and not rely solely on political events, as not all events provide strong decision-making signals. Keywords: trading volume activity, event study, 2024 presidential election, capital market reaction

Abstract

Language functions as a tool for communication between humans, allowing them to express their thoughts and intentions. Language also evolves due to interactions between neighboring languages, and this is true for Arabic as well. The evolution of Arabic includes the incorporation of new vocabulary through the process of borrowing, which is often referred to as Arabization. Therefore, this study explores Arabization with the aim of identifying the forms of Arabization and the languages from which the borrowed words originate. This research focuses particularly on newspapers, as they play a significant role in introducing new vocabulary through their reporting. News about war and political conflicts frequently captures global attention, especially regarding the conflicts in the Middle East. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach. The primary data sources are three online newspapers from the Middle East: As-Syarq (Qatar), Al-Ittihad (UAE), and SabaNet (Yemen). The findings indicate that Arabization occurs through several methods, including Iqtibas Al-Lafdzi (literal borrowing), translation, and derivation. A total of 54 instances of Arabization using the Iqtibas Al-Lafdzi method and 6 instances using translation were identified in the war and political reporting of the three newspapers (As-Syarq, Al-Ittihad, and SabaNet) between November 1–10, 2023. The study found nine source languages: Greek, Latin, English, Persian, French, Russian, Japanese, Hebrew, and Syriac.

Abstract

Strengthening the role of village officials in the development and supervision of village-owned enterprises (BUMDes) is a crucial aspect in realizing transparent, accountable, and sustainable village economic management. However, in practice, this function is often carried out administratively and is not supported by adequate institutional evaluation instruments. This community service activity aims to enhance the capacity of the village apparatus of Sawah Village, Kampar Utara Sub-district, in performing their institutional development and oversight functions for the BUMDes “Maju Bersama Sawah” through a participatory training approach and the development of institutional monitoring instruments. The method used is a collaborative participatory approach based on the principles of Participatory Learning and Action (PLA), with activity stages including problem identification, training, workshop on instrument development, and participatory evaluation. The results of the activity show an increase in the village apparatus' understanding of their strategic role, as well as the development of institutional evaluation documents that can be used to strengthen accountability and coordination among stakeholders. The conclusion of this activity affirms that a participatory training approach is effective in building awareness and evaluative skills among village officials. Therefore, replication of this model is recommended as a strategy for empowering village economic institutions in the long term

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of access and the contestation of interests among actors in the struggle over artisanal mining locations in the Jambi and Bangka Belitung Provinces. The focus of the study includes field conditions, economic factors driving community participation, and power relations among actors. A qualitative approach is applied, with data collected through observation, purposive interviews, and document studies. The results show that artisanal mining is rapidly developing due to the high potential of natural resources and the economic needs of the community, although most activities remain illegal. Regulatory mismatches and licensing practices create legal uncertainty that threatens the sustainability of these activities. Artisanal mining serves as a primary livelihood source with positive impacts on income and quality of life, but it also poses challenges related to sustainability, socio-economic inequality, and environmental risks. The contestation of interests reveals structural conflicts between communities, political elites, and capital owners, driven by weak governance and regulation. The dominance of large companies and the involvement of local actors in rent-seeking practices strengthen the competition over resources as a power arena. Further studies are recommended to examine the narratives and discourses among stakeholders to deepen the understanding of artisanal mining policy formation at the local level.
