Abstract

This article discusses the effectiveness of augmented reality media on science learning in elementary schools. Effectiveness is reviewed from the improvement of student learning outcomes in elementary school science learning. For this reason, augmented reality media appears to provide an interactive and interesting learning experience. Through a systematic literature review on Google Scholar on 7 articles from 2021-2025 which were selected through a screening process through the publish or perish application, the criteria were determined: discussing three keywords, namely augmented reality media, science learning and elementary school, and feasibility. Eligibility filters several aspects 1) minimum article index sinta 3, 2) availability for download in the form of pdf files. After going through the screening process, the results showed that AR media in science learning in elementary schools can significantly improve students' understanding, critical thinking skills, technology skills, learning motivation, and learning outcomes in science learning. This comes from the characteristics of AR media that are easy to integrate with learning models and conventional learning media, besides that augmented reality media is also considered interactive and helps visualize complex images, such as in human organ material, the solar system, landscapes, materials that require visual explanation. Therefore, teachers as educators no longer experience problems explaining material visually, and it is hoped that from this research teachers can also see how effective augmented reality media is in learning science in elementary schools

Abstract

Religious intolerance is rising globally, including in Indonesia, a pluralistic nation with over 600 ethnic groups and six official religions. Ironically, cases of intolerance have emerged even in Yogyakarta, an educational and cultural barometer renowned for its local wisdom of tepa selira (mutual respect). This study investigates how elementary school teachers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia understand and internalize religious tolerance in classroom practices. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, FGDs, and document analysis involving 20 teachers from 10 diverse elementary schools. Findings indicate that most teachers focus on cognitive outcomes and struggle to assess tolerance in the affective domain. However, one multicultural school Pelangi Elementary demonstrates an alternative approach by emphasizing shared human values such as kindness, gratitude, and togetherness, and by removing formal religious instruction to foster inclusivity. The school integrates dialogical pedagogy, parental involvement, and community engagement, making tolerance a lived experience rather than a theoretical concept. This study concludes that religious tolerance education in diverse societies must move beyond textbooks toward character-based, participatory learning rooted in local wisdom and inclusive practice. The Pelangi model offers a promising strategy adaptable to other pluralistic contexts.

Abstract

Indonesia continues to face persistent challenges in reading literacy, particularly among children of migrant workers who lack access to quality formal education. This study explores the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media in enhancing the reading skills of Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia. Utilizing a quantitative pretest-posttest design, this study involved 34 elementary school students enrolled at At-Tanzil Learning Center in Selangor. The intervention consisted of interactive AR-enhanced picture storybooks, designed to improve reading motivation, letter and word recognition, and reading comprehension. Data were analyzed through simple linear regression analysis using SPSS. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in students' reading abilities after the use of AR media (t = 2.629, p = .012), with an R² value of 0.136, indicating a 13.6% effect size. The results suggest that AR integration into literacy instruction can meaningfully support early reading development, particularly in the reading skill aspect. Furthermore, the use of immersive and interactive technologies has been shown to increase student engagement, comprehension, and motivation to read. These outcomes underline the potential of AR as a pedagogical tool for marginalized populations and offer practical implications for educators, policymakers, and instructional designers aiming to bridge literacy gaps through accessible and technology-supported interventions. This study contributes to the growing body of research on digital learning innovations and highlights the role of AR in promoting inclusive literacy education across transnational and underserved contexts.
