Abstract

Scientific literacy is a basic skill that students need to have to face the challengesof the 21st century. This study aims to analyze the improvement of scientific literacyof fifth-grade elementary school students through the implementation of Science,Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-based learning on the topic"Getting to Know the Earth". This type of research is quantitative with a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample of thisstudy consisted of 32 fifth-grade students of SDN 042 Pekanbaru who were selectedusing a purposive sampling technique. The data collection instrument was amultiple-choice scientific literacy test that covered the dimensions of PISA scientificliteracy. Data analysis used the average test and the Normalized Gain (N-Gain)formula. The results showed an average pretest score of 89.06 and increased to91.25 in the average posttest score. The N-gain analysis showed an increase of0.20 which is included in the low category. The low N-gain score is caused by theceiling effect because the students' initial scores were already very high, so the roomfor score improvement is limited. Overall, the implementation of STEM-basedlearning through the “artificial rain” experiment has a positive impact instrengthening students' understanding of scientific concepts and literacy in ameaningful way.

Abstract

This study aims to describe teachers’ strategies for teaching children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in elementary school and to identify the challenges faced during the learning process. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving classroom teachers, special education teachers, and students with ADHD in an inclusive elementary school. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that children with ADHD experience difficulties in maintaining focus, exhibit impulsive behavior, and display excessive motor activity, all of which impact the learning process. Teachers also face challenges such as limited understanding of ADHD, a lack of learning materials, and insufficient time for individual support. To address these issues, teachers implement various strategies, such as the use of visual and concrete materials, activity-based learning, brief and structured instructions, individualized approaches, and positive reinforcement. This study demonstrates that adaptive learning strategies and an inclusive learning environment can help increase the engagement of children with ADHD in the learning process.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between student motivation and computational thinking (CT) skills within a Scratch-based learning environment for primary school students. Utilizing a quantitative research design with a pretest-posttest framework, the research involved 28 primary school students engaged in a computational learning program centered on the Jumping Bean concept. A confusion matrix analysis was employed to assess the predictive relationship between motivation levels and improvements in CT skills. The results showed that motivation is a reliable predictor of CT gains, with high precision indicating that highly motivated students are very likely to demonstrate measurable progress. However, the recall score suggests motivation alone is not a conclusive factor, as some motivated students did not achieve the expected CT improvements. This implies that other instructional elements, such as prior knowledge, cognitive differences, teaching methods, and learning design, also significantly impact outcomes. The implications of this research suggest that educators should cultivate motivating learning environments to foster students’ CT skills effectively. Recommendations include integrating gamified elements and personalized feedback to enhance student engagement and motivation in computational learning contexts.
