Abstract

The research aims to analyze the production potential and opportunities to increase the productivity of each cross-bred animal based on its quantitative characteristics. The livestock material used in this research was 50 Sera chickens (Sentul chickens x Arabian chickens) and 50 Mera chickens (Merawang chickens x Arabian chickens). The research was carried out by raising chickens from DOC to 3 months of age. The quantitative data involve body weight, weight gain, and body measurements (Head Length, Head Circumference, Head Height, Neck Length, Neck Circumference, Wing Length, Back Length, Back Height, Chest Length, Chest Width, Shank Length, Shank Circumference, Length Third Finger and Pubic Bone Distance). The quantitative data that has been observed is then analyzed through the t-test. Then, PCA is used to identify body shape and size determinants in Sera and Mera chickens. Statistical analysis was carried out using Minitab software version 21. The results obtained showed that the body weights of Sera and Mera chickens were significantly different (p<0.05) from DOC to 3 months of age. A significant increase in productivity in crosses between Sentul chickens and Arabian chickens and Merawang chickens with Arabian chickens occurs starting at 1-2 months. Sera and Mera chickens' body sizes differed significantly (p<0.05). The total diversity of PC1 in Sera chickens was 79.8%, and in Mera chickens, it was 70.6%. Meanwhile, the total PC2 diversity of Sera chickens was 17.7%, and Mera chickens were 7.9%. In conclusion, Sera chickens have the highest quantitative characteristics compared to Mera chickens, and the highest body weight gain occurs at 1-2 months in both Sera and Mera chickens.  Based on principal component analysis. The body size characteristic of Sera chickens is shank length, while in Mera chickens, it is chest length. The distinct shape of Sera chickens is body height, while in Mera chickens, it is shank length.

Abstract

The rural communities living around the National Park are generally farmers. They are less empowered and classified as poor. This is due to the relatively low capacity of farmers. In order to be more empowered, the farmers need to improve their capacity. This study aimed to analyze the factors that directly and indirectly affect the capacity building of agroforestry farmers around the National Park. This study was conducted in Kuningan and Majalengka districts of West Java Province for four months, from July to October 2017. Sampling technique used was random sampling with cluster location was agroforestry Forest Farmer Group (FFG) in the buffer zone of Gunung Ciremai National Park. The sample size was 310 members of agroforestry Forest Farmer Group. The results showed that the capacity of agroforestry farmers around the National Park was low. This is due to the low level of formal education, farming experience, cosmopolitan level, and narrow farmland of farmers. It is also caused by low environmental support factors (economic accessibility, ecological conditions, FFG role) and low participation of farmers in agroforestry both economically and socially.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the pregnancy rate resulting from artificial insemination of Bali cattle with different semen depositions. The research method used was a field experiment with three treatments: semen deposition at positions 3, 4, and 4+ (right side/dexter side). Pregnancy rate data were evaluated through Non-Return Rate (NRR1 and NRR2), Service per Conception (S/C), and Conception Rate (CR). The study was conducted on 120 Bali cattle in Bulukumba District, South Sulawesi. The results showed an increase in NRR in semen deposition 3, 4, and 4+ during the observation period of NRR 31 – 60. Although some breeders reported arousal symptoms late, the increase in NRR indicates a good understanding of arousal detection. Semen deposition at position 3 produces the lowest NRR, which can be caused by reproductive function abnormalities, silent heat, endometritis, or late reporting by farmers. The results of the S/C evaluation showed the lowest value and the highest of CR at semen deposition 4, which means that the semen deposition was closer to the fertilization site. Semen deposition at positions 4+ on dexter side althrough closer to the fertilization site was lower results of CR than posisition 4, because sperma only toward in right tubafolopii. The effectiveness of AI is significantly impacted by accurately detecting and timing the insemination process based on the ovulation period. This study provides important information regarding AI techniques in Bali cattle that can be used to increase the population and genetic quality of beef cattle in Indonesia.

Abstract

Village fund corruption cases continue to rise, from 17 cases in 2016 to 155 cases in 2022. As a solution, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) established anti-corruption villages, which currently number 40 across Indonesia. Panggungharjo Village, Sewon Subdistrict, Bantul Regency, is a fostered village under Ahmad Dahlan University and was the first anti-corruption village launched directly by the KPK on December 1, 2021. One important element in establishing an anti-corruption village is the presence of traditional and/or religious leaders, including the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI). However, to date, religious leaders within DMI, particularly the Pangungharjo branch, have not contributed to the development of the Pangungharjo anti-corruption village. Therefore, the Community Service Team is here to provide a solution in the form of anti-corruption preacher training. The implementation method uses socialization, training, mentoring, program evaluation, and sustainability. The program is implemented from July to September with a duration of four meetings. Participants in the Community Service Program (PKM) were 35 members and administrators of the Panggungharjo branch of the Islamic Student Association (DMI), representing mosque administrators throughout the Panggungharjo village. The PKM results demonstrate that the anti-corruption da'i training is an innovation for Panggungharjo village, the first anti-corruption village in Indonesia. Participants experienced improvements in their knowledge of anti-corruption fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), integrity, and anti-corruption da'wah skills. This program will continue with anti-corruption da'wah sessions at least once a month in all mosques in the Panggungharjo area.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to observe the reproductive characteristics of Palu fat-tailed sheep affected by animal parities given pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) and genistein (GEN) as a synthetic phytoestrogen. This study employed 32 ewes arranged in a completely randomized experimental design. The first factor was parity (P2 and P3) and second factor was a hormonal treatment as follows; H0 (14 d-controlled internal drug release or CIDR implant as control), H1 (CIDR+PMSG at 15 IU/kg BW, im injection), H2 (CIDR+GEN 0.1 mg/kg BW, iv injection); H3 (CIDR+PMSG at 15 IU/kg BW and GEN at 0.1 mg/kg BW, iv injection). Results indicated that all animals exhibited estrous and the onset for H1 was significantly earlier than for H2 and H0. The duration of estrous for P3 was significantly longer than for P2, while that for H1 was significantly longer than for H2 and H0. Gestation rate was 93.75%, birth rate was 83.33% and length of gestation was 147.76±1.54 d. Birth weight for P3 was significantly higher than for P2. It is concluded that CIDR, PMSG, and genistein enhanced the estrous characteristics in Palu fat-tailed sheep but did not affect litter size and birth weight.
