Abstract

This study aims to describe the various challenges faced by teachers in assessing attitudes through online learning in elementary schools during Covid-19. This study used a qualitative method with a type of phenomenology. The data collection was carried out through interviews and focus group discussion (FGD) through Google Meet and WhatsApp and open questionnaires via Google Form. The technique in analyzing the data was finding specific themes and looking for the relationships between them to achieve a proper understanding. The results show that the challenges in assessing attitudes faced by the teacher included six themes, namely understanding, planning, implementing, and reflecting on attitude assessment, the condition of parents and students, and mastery of media and learning tools. These various challenges showed advices and recommendations for schools and policymakers to improve the quality in teaching practices.

Abstract

The educational achievement in Indonesia is measured by implementing the National Examination or Ujian Nasional (UN). Throughout its implementation, the UN results shown unsatisfying results, including in mathematics subjects. This fact indicated that there are mathematics topics that are considered to be difficult for students. This study aimed to investigate the difficult topics of mathematics in Vocational High School (VHS) based on UN data. This study was a descriptive research with the quantitative approach by using the UN report results in the level of VHS from Center for Educational Assessment of the Ministry of Education and Culture in the period of 2008 to 2017 (ten years) as a research data source. Data analysis was carried out in a quantitative descriptive by mapping the mathematics topics based on proportion correct answers or “daya serap”. A topic was considered difficult if the proportion correct answer was less than 50%. The results showed that there were 14 difficult mathematics topics in the UN implementation at the VHS level from 2008 to 2017. These topics include the comparison of trigonometric functions, solid figure, limit, measure of data dispersion, permutation and combination, differential, area between two curves, a measure of central data tendentious, probability, logarithm, integral, sequence and series, linear program, and polar coordinates system. The implications of the research findings for learning practice and future research opportunities are discussed.

Abstract

Primary school education is an important factor for the success of the next level education. Several changes have been made to the education system in Indonesia to expand access of education in rural areas, improve the quality of education, building initiatives since 2001. In this study, the method used was Multivariate to explore the relationship between several independent variables, i.e. gender, residence and expenditure groups. Prerequisite tests performed showed that the data were normally distributed. The results of this study indicate that in the Hierarchical Cluster analysis, four clusters were found in number of gross participation rate (APK) of primary schools or equal in Indonesia year 2018, 2019 and 2020. The hypothesis test showed that gender, residence and expenditure group has no significant effect on APK of primary schools or equal students. This indicates that in year 2018, 2019 and 2020, primary schools or equal students have received education evenly in ratio of gender, residence and expenditure group.

This participant was selected using purposive sampling technique (teachers who have more than 10 years of teaching experience). Data collection was carried out by interview. Qualitative data analysis was performed using the ATLAS.ti software. The data analysis stages in this study were data coding, data classification, and data interpretation. This study found 12 personality characteristics of teachers that are effective in strengthening character education, include able to behave as friends, able to be roles model, able to understand lessons, discipline, respectful of students, treat students impartially in terms of sanctions, patient, relaxed, willing to pursue life-long learning, master the skill of educating character, not known as fierce teachers, and perceived as joyful teachers. The effective teacher personality can provide understanding and improvement of character education in schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the impact of the utilization of technology on learning outcomes through a meta-analysis. Data was collected by documenting research that is resulted from various sources collected through internet. These articles were published from 2006 to 2019, in United Nations Language. The article discusses the influence of information and communication technology (ICT) on learning achievement, analyzed qualitatively, describing the data in the form of sample size, standard deviation, and average, and published in journals indexed in Google Scholar. The analysis design employed a contrast group with the random effect model that the effect size is corrected. The analysis was used JASP software for calculating the average aggregate difference, drawing a forest plot, and publication bias. The results of the analysis show that there is a significant difference between groups using ICT and non-ICT in the learning process (SE=1.13), groups of students who utilizing ICT in the learning have better learning outcomes than those who do not use ICT. Based on the results of the analysis, it is very clear the urgency of implementing ICT in supporting the learning process. Schools should conduct an assessment of the condition of the school and students and then choose the appropriate ICT implementation. Thus, the quality of the learning process and students' technological literacy improve.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the characteristics of math test instruments are tested on 373 of 10th-grade vocational high school students and to describe student abilities. The analysis was conducted using the Item Response Theory (IRT) approach with the  2 Parameter Logistic  (2PL) model. The whole analysis process was conducted with the help of the R Program, SPSS and Excel. This finding shows that 2 items did not fit the 2 PL model. Of the 28 items that fit the 2PL model, 3 do not have a good discriminating index because they have negative values. Of 30 items that were tested, 3 items were very easy, 21 items were moderate, one item was difficult, and five items were very difficult. Student abilities ranged between -4.69 logit and 4.09 logit with an average of 0.05 logit. Based on the category, the proportion of students with moderate ability reached 63.54%, high ability 15.28%, very high ability 1.34%, while students with low ability were 19.57%, and very low ability was only 0.27%.  The maximum information function of this test was 29,37 (has good category) on the ability (θ) of -0,8 logit and SEM of 0.18 logit. Overall, the test was suitable for students with abilities between -2,6 and 2,4 logit. Based on these results, 25 items can be included in the question bank with suggestions for improvement in the proportion of difficulty level to reach a normal curve balance.

Abstract

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it is hoped that all elements of education can still facilitate learning so that children remain active even though they are online. The Indonesian policy of the government in dealing with the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak is to prevent it by imposing social distancing. This policy impacts all lives, Education is one of them., especially in the online learning process. Physics is one of the specialization subjects given to high school students. The purpose of this research is to determine impact of online learning Physics on student learning outcomes and the things that affect this impact. This type of research is a mixed-method—qualitative data obtained by observation, documentation, and interview techniques. Quantitative data comes from evaluating student achievement before the application of online learning (before the pandemic) and after the implementation of online learning (during the pandemic). Participants in this quantitative study were 116 students, and qualitative participants were 5 students' parents. The result of this study is that there is a significant impact or difference between the effects of learning Physics before and after the pandemic. This can be seen from the effects of Pillai's trace, Wilks lambda, Hoteling's trace, and Roy's most enormous root test results stating that the significance value at 0.000 is smaller than 0.05. It can also be seen from the average before the pandemic, 80,04 and after the pandemic, 82.11 This is caused by that there is excessive parental participation in completing each student's task at home.
