Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influence of Industrial Work Practice, Discipline, and Vocational Interest on students’ work readiness in the Motorcycle Engineering Department at SMK Negeri 2 Palembang. This research employed a quantitative correlational design involving 72 twelfth-grade students selected using saturated sampling. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, simple regression, and multiple linear regression with IBM SPSS 25. The results showed that Industrial Work Practice had a positive and significant effect on work readiness (R² = 0.171; p < 0.05), Discipline demonstrated the strongest influence (R² = 0.390; p < 0.05), and Vocational Interest also significantly affected work readiness (R² = 0.122; p < 0.05). Simultaneously, the three variables contributed 59.2% to students’ work readiness. These findings indicate that practical industrial experience, strong discipline, and vocational interest are important factors in improving vocational students’ readiness to enter the workforce.

Abstract

This research aims to develop, measure the validity, assess the practicality, and evaluate the effectiveness of an e-module based on discovery learning to enhance the learning outcomes of 11th-grade students in Electrical Vehicle Maintenance subject. This study falls under the category of Research and Development, involving the development of an e-module for the topic of light vehicle electrical maintenance that is valid, practical, and effective using the discovery learning approach. The development of this e-module based on discovery learning follows the 4-D model, which includes defining, designing, developing, and disseminating stages. The validation results of the developed e-module based on discovery learning fall under the category of valid. The practicality assessment of the discovery learning-based module is classified as very good, and the effectiveness of the e-module based on discovery learning as a learning media indicates that this learning media is considered effective.

Abstract

This study is to provide valid, practical, and effective Android application-based interactive learning media for the Basics of Mechanical Engineering subject in class X Mechanical Engineering at SMK Dhuafa Padang. This medium is intended to boost students' comprehension, motivation, and independence, allowing them to achieve better learning outcomes. The research approach employed is Research and Development (R&D), using a 4D development model (define, design, develop and disseminate). The primary data utilized in this study came from validators, teachers, and students. Data was analyzed descriptively to characterize the validity, practicality and effectiveness of the learning media developed. The validity test findings show that this learning medium, which had a media aspect score of 0,892 and a material aspect score of 0,950, was deemed valid by expert review. This media was also declared practical with a practicality score of 96,94% from teacher responses and 92,25% from student responses. In the effectiveness test, the Gain Score was 0,68, placing it in the medium category. Meanwhile, the t-test shows a Sig value (2-tailed) of 0.002 (2-tailed < 0,05) and a tcount value of 3,372 (tcount ˃ ttable), indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between students who use this learning media (experimental class) and those who do not use the media (control class). Thus, this Android application-based interactive learning media is declared valid, practical and effective for use in the DDTM learning process.

Abstract

The designed e-module is expected to meet these needs by presenting interactive, easily accessible, and interesting learning materials. This study aims to utilize advances in digital technology in improving the quality of vocational education and preparing students according to the needs of modern industry. The method used in this study is the Research and Development (R&D) approach by following the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The stages begin with a needs analysis to identify the specifications of the required teaching materials and the characteristics of the students. At the Design stage, the e-module is designed with an attractive structure and relevant materials. Then the initial product development is carried out, followed by evaluation by material, language, and IT experts to ensure the quality of the e-module. Implementation involves limited trials in the school environment to collect feedback and assess the effectiveness of the e-module in the learning process. The data analysis technique in this study uses a validation sheet. The results of the study indicate that the developed e-module has a high level of validity, practicality, and effectiveness in the learning process. Expert validation gave a score of 100% for material, 98% for language, and 93% for media/IT, indicating excellent quality. Field trials by teachers resulted in a score of 92%, while broader trials with learners resulted in a score of 97%, both indicating a high level of effectiveness and acceptance of the e-module. In conclusion, the development of IT-based e-modules has proven effective in improving the quality and motivation of learning, in accordance with the demands of vocational education that is adaptive and responsive to technological developments.

Abstract

Optimizing combustion parameters by incorporating alternative fuels and modifying the engine's mechanical properties is essential to improving the thermal efficiency and performance of modern internal combustion engines. This study examines the impact of HHO gas utilization, variations in compression ratios, various types of spark plugs, and ethanol gasoline blends on the torque and other characteristics of a 4-stroke fuel-injected single cylinder engine. Hydrogen is generated via electrolysis and used as a supplementary fuel. The Taguchi method was employed to create tests involving four variables: HHO percentage, compression ratio, spark plug type, and ethanol mixture. Testing occurred at 5000 RPM under a load of 1800 Watts. The findings indicated that the combination of 20% HHO, a compression ratio of 16.9:1, platinum spark plugs, and E-80 ethanol yielded optimal engine performance, with thermal efficiency reaching 60% at 7500 rpm. Moreover, the results of deposit content analysis after 50 hours of operation indicated that the ideal design produced fewer deposits than RON 92 gasoline.

Abstract

The limited availability of teaching materials in the Automotive Sensor Technology and Electronic Control course is an obstacle in learning, because the lecture process is still dominated by presentation media and lecturers’ explanations, causing students to experience difficulties in understanding abstract and technical material. In addition, no digital teaching materials are yet available to support students’ independent learning. This study aims to produce an e-book that is valid and feasible for use as a learning medium in the Automotive Sensor Technology and Electronic Control course. This study used the Research and Development method with the 4D model, which includes the Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages, but its implementation was limited to the Develop stage. The research subjects consisted of two validators from the Department of Automotive Engineering, Universitas Negeri Padang. Data were collected using a validation questionnaire covering the aspects of material, media, language, and instructional design, then analyzed descriptively and quantitatively through the calculation of the product validity percentage. The results showed that the developed e-book had a very high level of validity, with a material validation percentage of 89.29%, media validation of 96%, language validation of 91.74%, and instructional design validation of 89.33%. The conclusion of this study affirms that the e-book for the Automotive Sensor Technology and Electronic Control course is declared very valid and feasible for use as a learning medium. These findings imply the provision of digital teaching materials that can support independent learning and help students understand technical material on automotive sensors and electronic control.

Abstract

This research evaluates the learning process in vocational high schools (SMK) using all four components of the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model from the perspectives of students and teachers. A descriptive-evaluative approach was employed involving 120 students and 25 teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Painan, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires comprising 66 items for students and 59 items for teachers, structured around all four CIPP components, with particular depth on four Process sub-components: Teaching Strategy (P1), Media and Technology Use (P2), Student Interaction (P3), and Assessment Process (P4). The Context component received the highest scores from both groups (students: 76.4%; teachers: 83.2%), while the Product component scored the lowest among students (70.2%). The Process component was rated 72.5% by students and 80.2% by teachers overall, with Student Interaction (P3) as the strongest sub-component and Media and Technology Use (P2) as the most critical area for improvement. A consistent perception gap averaging 7.7 percentage points was identified across all components, with teachers rating program implementation more favorably than students throughout. These findings reveal systemic challenges in technology integration, assessment practices, and resource provision in vocational learning, and provide evidence-based recommendations for policy and instructional improvement in Indonesian vocational education.

Abstract

This research examined the direct and indirect relationships among formative feedback quality, student self-efficacy, competency achievement, and work readiness in a non-urban vocational school context. A quantitative explanatory design was employed involving all 150 students at SMKN 1 Simpang Alahan Mati, Pasaman, West Sumatra, through total sampling. Data were collected using validated five-point Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0. All constructs met convergent validity, composite reliability, and discriminant validity thresholds. Results confirmed that formative feedback quality significantly affected student self-efficacy, competency achievement, and work readiness, while student self-efficacy demonstrated the strongest predictive effect on competency achievement with a large effect size and significantly influenced work readiness, thus accepting all five hypotheses. Mediation analysis confirmed that student self-efficacy partially mediates the relationship between formative feedback quality and both vocational outcome variables, establishing that feedback influences outcomes through concurrent direct instructional and indirect psychological mechanisms. These findings demonstrate that the gap between vocational education outcomes and workforce requirements in non-urban schools is substantially explained by the combined insufficiency of formative feedback quality and student self-efficacy, and that addressing graduate workforce readiness requires coordinated investment in both dimensions simultaneously.

Abstract

Vocational high school graduates consistently record the highest open unemployment rate among all education levels, indicating a persistent gap between vocational education outcomes and labor market demands. This study examines the contribution of student motivation and stakeholder support from family, school, and industry to work readiness and entrepreneurial readiness, with internship programs as the mediating variable. A quantitative causal-associative design was employed with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 190 respondents were selected from a population of 307 using proportionate stratified random sampling, representing students, supervising teachers, parents, and industry supervisors. Data were collected via validated Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0. Results confirmed all eight hypothesized mediation paths. Internship programs strongly and significantly predicted both work readiness and entrepreneurial readiness, functioning as the primary mediator that transforms motivation and stakeholder support into concrete career readiness outcomes. School support emerged as the dominant contributor to internship program quality, followed by parental support, industry support, and student motivation. The model explained more than eighty percent of the variance in internship program implementation. These findings provide empirical evidence that improving vocational graduate career readiness requires coordinated investment in internship program quality, teacher capacity building, and entrepreneurship integration, particularly in the agribusiness sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the alignment between vocational high school graduates’ competencies and industry needs using a data mining approach. The research is motivated by the increasing gap between graduates’ skills and labor market demands in the era of rapid technological development. A quantitative method was employed, with data collected from 90 vocational high school students using a structured questionnaire. The analysis includes descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, and data mining classification techniques to identify patterns of alignment.The results show that graduates’ competencies have a positive and significant effect on alignment level, while industry needs have a significant but negative effect, indicating that increasing industry demands may reduce alignment if competencies are not improved. Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence alignment, although the coefficient of determination (R² = 0.131) indicates a relatively low explanatory power. This suggests that other factors also contribute to alignment. The findings highlight the importance of strengthening competency-based education and enhancing collaboration between vocational schools and industry. The use of data mining provides a data-driven approach to better understand alignment patterns and support decision-making in curriculum development.
