Abstract

Chronic wound healing remains a clinical challenge due to the limited capacity of conventional therapies to accelerate tissue regeneration. Electrical stimulation (ES) offers a promising therapeutic modality; however, open-loop ES cannot adaptively adjust therapy duration. This study developed a closed-loop ES system incorporating fuzzy controller to dynamically regulate stimulation duration based on wound progression. The method integrates an Atmega32-based ES platform, fuzzy controller algorithms, and preclinical testing on guinea pigs. The ES system operates at a frequency of 20 Hz, a pulse width of 250 µs, and an output voltage of 50 V. The fuzzy controller adjusts stimulation duration within a range of 15–45 minutes according to the difference between the actual and target wound areas, achieving an estimation error of 0.3%. Preclinical evaluations compared the therapeutic effectiveness of closed-loop ES, open-loop ES, and no-ES conditions. Wound-area reduction over seven days in the closed-loop group reached 64–67%, higher than the open-loop (44–50%) and no-therapy (47%) groups. Closed-loop therapy also produced the highest tissue-density outcomes (75–100%), exceeding those of the open-loop (50%) and no-therapy (25–50%) groups. The fuzzy-controlled closed-loop ES accelerated tissue regeneration by approximately 1.5–2 times compared to open-loop and no-therapy conditions. Effectiveness rankings showed the closed-loop system achieving the highest scores (0.90 and 1.00), outperforming the open-loop (0.61) and no-therapy (0.51) groups. These findings indicate that fuzzy-controlled closed-loop ES provides superior wound-healing performance compared to conventional approaches, offering a more adaptive and precise therapeutic strategy with potential for broader medical application.

Abstract

Maritime transportation plays a crucial role in inter-island logistics distribution in Indonesia, one of which is through the Sea Toll Road program. Despite its economic benefits, the shipping sector also contributes to environmental pollution due to the high consumption of fossil fuels and the resulting pollutant emissions. The implementation of a carbon tax is one effort to reduce fuel consumption by increasing the burden of ship operational costs. As the Sea Toll route expands every year, this study was conducted to evaluate and optimize shipping routes to be more technically efficient and environmentally friendly. The research focused on 7 Sea Toll routes departing from Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, by solving the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) using the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm, an optimization algorithm inspired by the behavior of honeybees in foraging. The results showed a decrease in total distance traveled from 16,708 NM to 13,816 NM, an increase in average load capacity from 67.86% to 95%, and a decrease in carbon tax costs by 17.3%. The research results prove that the ABC algorithm is effective in designing optimal shipping routes in terms of route efficiency, load distribution, operational costs, and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the constraints that hinder the realization of critical thinking in students’ oral argumentation in higher education contexts. The study employed an interpretive qualitative case study design. The participants were four purposively selected lecturers who teach speaking courses emphasizing argumentative discussion at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bone. They had at least one semester of experience facilitating academic speaking activities and were selected through maximum variation sampling to capture diverse instructional perspectives. Data were collected through classroom observations, audio recordings of academic speaking activities, and interviews with lecturers. Thematic analysis was conducted iteratively to identify recurring linguistic, affective, and pedagogical constraints. The findings indicate that students’ oral argumentation is largely dominated by descriptive claims, with limited use of evidence, warrants, and rebuttals, revealing a gap between students’ critical thinking potential and their oral performance. This gap is affected by related language issues, like having a small vocabulary and not speaking smoothly; emotional factors, such as anxiety and fear of being judged; and teaching conditions, like not having enough training in argumentation and support for academic reading and writing. The study concludes that critical thinking in oral argumentation should be understood as a context-dependent and discursive practice rather than merely an individual cognitive ability. So, the research highlights the importance of teaching methods that combine language skills, emotional support, and clear training in argumentation to help improve critical thinking through speaking in higher education.

Abstract

Social capital is one of the key elements in the independence of educational institutions such as Islamic boarding schools. This paper aims to analyze the role of social capital in promoting the economic independence of students through the embroidery industry at Pondok Pesantren Al-Amin Tasikmalaya. Using Robert D. Putnam's social capital theory framework, this study focuses on networks, norms, and trust. This descriptive qualitative research provides an in-depth description of social phenomena through observation, in-depth interviews with various stakeholders (school principal, vice principal, embroidery teachers, garment managers, student representatives, and local community members), and documentation at Pondok Pesantren Al-Amin Tasikmalaya. Data was analyzed interactively (reduction, presentation, drawing conclusions) and verified through triangulation. The research findings indicate that the Al-Amin Islamic Boarding School successfully manages the embroidery industry as a comprehensive economic empowerment strategy. This model is fundamentally supported by the manifestation of strong social capital: active networks (through the absorption of graduates into partner factories, strategic industrial partnerships, and a maklun system that empowers the surrounding community) that open economic opportunities and market access for students; emphasized norms (product quality, business ethics, and internal solidarity) that shape professional work ethics and student integrity; and trust as the glue for harmonious collaboration between the boarding school, students, and industry stakeholders. The social capital formed through students' direct involvement in industry and embroidery skill training influences the development of their potential, skills, and ultimately, economic independence, preparing them to become competitive individuals. This paper provides deep insights into how social capital can serve as a key pillar in achieving economic independence for individual students within religious educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of first touch training variations, namely first touch two player drill, first touch triangle drill, and first touch on the move, on improving passing and ball controlling skills of 10–12-year-old players at SSB Sausu Raya. The research employed an experimental method using a quasi-experimental design with a three groups pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 players divided into three experimental groups, each comprising 10 players. Data were collected using passing and stopping skill tests. Data analysis included normality testing, homogeneity testing, paired sample t-test, and independent sample t-test at a significance level of 0.05.The results revealed that all first touch training variations had a significant effect on improving passing and ball controlling skills, as indicated by significance values of 0.00 < 0.05 in all experimental groups. However, the independent sample t-test results indicated no significant differences among the three training variations. It can be concluded that first touch two player drill, triangle drill, and first touch on the move are equally effective in enhancing passing and ball controlling skills of 10–12-year-old soccer players. Abstract

Elementary mathematics learning often remains dependent on printed materials and teacher-centered explanation, limiting students’ opportunities to engage with concepts visually, interactively, and critically. This study aimed to develop and evaluate multimedia-based interactive e-teaching materials designed to enhance fifth-grade students’ mathematical critical thinking skills and learning interest in the topic of circumference and area of plane figures. The study employed a research and development approach integrated with a quasi-experimental evaluation. The product was developed through the ADDIE model, covering analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Participants were fifth-grade students at UMP Elementary School, Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. Product validity was examined through media and material expert assessments, practicality was measured using teacher and student response questionnaires, and effectiveness was tested by comparing an experimental class using the developed e-teaching materials with a control class using conventional materials. The results showed that the product was valid, with media expert validation reaching 83.35% and material expert validation reaching 98.18%. Practicality was also very high, as indicated by the teacher response score of 97.78% and the student response average of 89.29%. The experimental class achieved higher critical thinking scores than the control class, 85.75 versus 67.75, and higher learning interest, 81.83 versus 72.00. The t-test results confirmed significant differences between the two groups, with p < .05. These findings demonstrate that multimedia-based interactive e-teaching materials can function as integrated cognitive and motivational scaffolds in elementary mathematics learning.

Abstract

Numeracy skills and learning interest are central to elementary mathematics learning because they shape students’ ability to interpret quantitative information, solve contextual problems, and sustain meaningful engagement in classroom activities. However, mathematics instruction at the elementary level often remains procedural and insufficiently interactive, limiting students’ willingness to participate in numeracy-based problem solving. This study examined the effect of Problem-Based Learning assisted by monopoly media on Grade VI students’ numeracy skills and learning interest, while also investigating the relationship between both variables. A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was employed. The participants were 50 Grade VI students from two elementary school classes in North Purwokerto, Banyumas, Indonesia, consisting of 25 students in the experimental class and 25 students in the control class. Data were collected using a numeracy skills test, a learning interest observation sheet, and documentation. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality testing, Levene’s homogeneity testing, independent samples t-test, effect size analysis, and Pearson correlation. The findings showed that the experimental class achieved higher mean scores than the control class in both numeracy skills and learning interest. The most robust effect was observed in learning interest, supported by a moderate practical effect, indicating that monopoly media functioned as an affective engagement mechanism within the PBL framework. In contrast, the effect on numeracy skills was positive but practically limited, suggesting that cognitive improvement requires longer intervention and stronger instructional scaffolding. A strong positive correlation was also found between numeracy skills and learning interest. This study contributes by positioning monopoly-media-assisted PBL as a pedagogical approach that primarily strengthens affective engagement while providing supportive conditions for sustained numeracy development

Abstract

This study investigated the influence of three-dimensional visualization media on elementary school students’ spatial ability and creative thinking in geometry learning. The study was grounded in students’ persistent difficulties in interpreting solid figures, recognizing object viewpoints, and transforming spatial representations when geometry is taught through conventional explanation and static images. A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest model was employed. The participants were 50 sixth-grade students from two public elementary schools in Karangpucung District, Cilacap Regency, Indonesia, consisting of 27 students in the experimental class and 23 students in the control class. The experimental class learned cubes, cuboids, and composite spatial structures using three-dimensional visualization media, whereas the control class received conventional instruction. Data were collected using spatial ability and creative thinking tests and analyzed through descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality testing, Levene’s homogeneity testing, independent samples t-test, and Pearson correlation. The results showed that the experimental class achieved significantly higher outcomes than the control class in spatial ability, t(48) = 4.514, p < .001, and creative thinking, t(48) = 7.816, p < .001. A strong positive correlation was also found between spatial ability and creative thinking, r = .756, p < .001, indicating that students with stronger spatial reasoning tended to demonstrate stronger creative mathematical thinking. These findings suggest that three-dimensional visualization media function as cognitive scaffolds that support visual-spatial representation, mental transformation, and flexible idea generation. The study contributes to technology-enhanced geometry learning by demonstrating that interactive visual media can simultaneously strengthen spatial reasoning and creative thinking in elementary mathematics education.
