Abstract

This study explores the correlation between technology utilization and language acquisition while analyzing the impact of moderating variables on this relation. Our meta-analysis approach analyzes data from 43 extracts out of 19 primary studies published between 2012 and 2021. Our data analysis employs a random-effect model utilizing a significance level of α = 0.05. Additionally, the authors examine four moderating variables: level of education, location of research, proficiency in language, and year of publication. Technology-based language acquisition outperforms traditional methods, indicating a significant and moderate impact on the learning process. This study enhances comprehension of the efficacy of technology in language acquisition by identifying various factors, such as the geographical location of research, methods of assessing language proficiency, and technology type employed. However, there is insufficient evidence to support the notion that educational level or sample size significantly impact technology-based language acquisition. This meta-analysis highlights the importance of considering nuanced factors when integrating technology into language learning. The findings emphasize the possibility of technology to transform methods of acquiring language and urge additional investigation into customized strategies that optimize its advantages.

Abstract

Purpose – This article aims to examine the factors that influence and inhibit a math mindset and how to develop it. Some people still believe in several myths that mathematical intelligence is innate and only suitable for men. This myth not only fosters math anxiety but also hinders the growth of students' mindsets and the achievement of students’ academic goals.Methodology – The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) adhering to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. After carrying out a search process using Publish or Perish for articles indexed by Scopus, 72 articles were obtained as the final result of several selection stages. These articles were reviewed one by one, allowing us to answer the Research Question (RQ) of this study.Findings – The results indicate that two factors contribute to a math mindset, namely internal and external. Meanwhile, factors inhibiting a math mindset include math anxiety, family, and educators, as well as several other factors. Family and educators play important roles in debunking myths and fostering a growth mindset in math.Contribution – The results of this study contribute to the efforts of the government, teachers, and parents in promoting the development of the mathematical mindset in children and students. By understanding that mathematical intelligence can be mastered by everyone without exception, the government, teachers, and parents can jointly implement a curriculum that emphasizes the importance of the learning process rather than the results.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia requires development, particularly in students’ numeracy skills and self-efficacy (SE). The importance of numeracy skills is stated in the Graduate Competency Standards (SKL). Moreover, numeracy skills are also related to students’ self-efficacy. Students with good numeracy skills tend to have high self-efficacy, and students with poor numeracy skills generally have low self-efficacy. Based on these factors, it is necessary to develop an appropriate learning model. The aim of this study is to develop a problem-based learning (PBL) model to enhance students’ numeracy skills and self-efficacy, and to determine the feasibility of the developed product in improving students’ numeracy and self-efficacy. This development research follows the ADDIE stages: Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The research methods used were both quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative methods were employed to determine the level of feasibility of the developed product, while qualitative methods were used to describe the calculated feasibility scores, suggestions and comments from validators, teachers, and students. The results showed that the developed product met the criteria of validity and practicality but did not meet the criteria of effectiveness. The ineffectiveness of the product was due to students not being accustomed to using the PBL model and their unfamiliarity with discussion-based learning.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the mathematics abilities of junior high school students using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The research method used is descriptive quantitative using meta analysis. The research mapped was obtained from journal articles, theses, theses and dissertations published between 2010 and 2020 with the help of publish or perish software as an article collection application. The research article meta-analysis technique uses the JASP 0.14.1.0 application to further interpret the heterogeneity, aggregate, bias detection, forrest and funnel plot tests. The results of the research show that the mathematics ability of Indonesian junior high school students is 74 on a scale of 0 -100. This aggregate was obtained from heterogeneous previous research results with a high category deviation index which is possible for bias. Strengthening bias was also obtained from the Rank correlation test and Regression test for Funnel plot asymmetry ("Egger's test") which showed that the p-value <0.05 and funnel plot results which did not show that the data represented a range of mathematical ability scores. This means that data from previous research shows that Problem Based Learning is indicated to have biased data that cannot generalize the effectiveness/ineffectiveness of this learning method. Researchers should publish the results of this PBL research even if the results obtained are not as expected.
