Abstract

Higher-order thinking is a crucial skill for students to master in the digital age. However, various findings indicate that student achievement in this aspect is very low. PBL, as a learning model believed to improve these skills, in practice, still draws criticism. In many studies, it is known that PBL is effective only when students have a good mastery of basic concepts. To bridge the research gap, Chemsite was used to strengthen these basic concepts. This study used an experimental method with 28 high school students as the research sample. Class selection was carried out randomly. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the integration of the PBL model with Chemsite in training higher-order thinking skills. Based on three parameters, namely: 1) the Wilcoxon test, indicating a significant difference in pre-test and post-test scores; 2) N-Gain analysis, indicating that 60.72% of students reached the high category and the rest were in the medium category; and 3) analysis of student responses, indicating a positive response between 79% and 100%. These findings prove that the Chemsite-PBL integration is effective in training HOTS and is an answer to the classic practice of PBL. Abstract

This study investigates the ethical perceptions of Muslim communities toward digital gold innovations in the era of financial digitization, emphasizing the integration of Islamic values, economic considerations, and modern financial technology. Unlike previous studies focusing primarily on economic factors or technology adoption, this research highlights the role of ethics, Sharia compliance, and social norms in investment decisions. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through literature review and in-depth interviews with Muslim digital gold investors, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of ethical reasoning and value reconstruction in digital financial practices. The findings reveal that investors consider not only financial benefits but also principles such as justice (‘adl), trustworthiness (amanah), honesty (shiddiq), public interest (maslahah), and sincerity (ikhlas) when evaluating investment legitimacy. Digitalization is perceived as a means to facilitate accessible, efficient, and Sharia-compliant investment without compromising ethical principles. The study also indicates the importance of clear contracts, transparency, and credible Sharia certification in enhancing trust. These insights contribute to developing an ethical evaluation framework for Sharia fintech and provide guidance for designing digital financial products that are morally sound, socially beneficial, and financially secure. The results further suggest directions for future research on digital literacy, educational strategies, and social influence in shaping young Muslims’ investment behavior.

Abstract

Tawāzun, or balance, is a core principle in Islamic education, emphasizing equilibrium between worldly and afterlife pursuits. In the Qur’an Hadith textbook for Grade VIII Madrasah Tsanawiyah, published by Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs (2020), two hadiths on tawāzun serve as foundational tools for fostering students' balanced spiritual and social character. This study conducts takhrīj on these hadiths using a library research approach and sanad-matn analysis to trace their origins, authenticity, and embedded Islamic educational values. Findings reveal that both hadiths originate from authoritative sources in the kutub al-tis‘ah, particularly Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim and Sunan al-Nasā’ī. The first hadith (the Prophet’s supplication for the rectification of religion, worldly life, and the hereafter), narrated from Abū Hurairah, has a continuous (muttaṣil) sanad with all thiqah narrators, rendering it ṣaḥīḥ li-dhātihi. The second hadith (the parable of the world likened to water on a finger dipped in the sea), narrated from Mustawrid, is transmitted through five reinforcing chains, also deemed ṣaḥīḥ despite minor non-impactful textual variants. The hadiths convey key Islamic educational values, including moderation, responsibility, physical-spiritual harmony, and holistic awareness of life’s purpose. They are highly relevant for Islamic character education in madrasahs, fostering balanced, optimistic, and hereafter-oriented attitudes amid contemporary challenges of modernization and hedonism. This research fills a gap in takhrīj studies on madrasah textbooks and strengthens the validity of Islamic religious education materials in Indonesia.

Abstract

Istiqāmah is an essential attitude in life. However, it remains a concept that is easy to articulate but difficult to practice consistently among Muslims. This article explores the meaning of istiqāmah in the Qur'an through a thematic interpretation (Tafsīr maudhū‘ī) approach, focusing on two key verses: Surah al-Ahqāf/46:13 and Surah Fuṣṣilat/41:30. In addition, the article discusses the benefits of istiqāmah, including being a means for prayers to be granted, a cause for sustenance, and a source of optimism and self-confidence. The article also outlines steps to actualize istiqāmah, such as purifying intentions, maintaining earnest effort (ikhtiyār), and fostering a righteous social environment. This study employs a qualitative method in the form of library research, using Tafsīr al-Marāghī by Shaykh Aḥmad Muṣṭafā al-Marāghī as the primary source, and Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr, Tafsīr al-Miṣbāḥ, along with several other references as secondary sources. The findings indicate that istiqāmah in the Qur’anic context refers to firmness in faith (‘aqīdah) and consistency in worship without associating partners with Allah. Those who uphold istiqāmah are promised tranquility, inner peace, and the reward of Paradise. These findings highlight the urgency of embodying istiqāmah in the lives of Muslims as a pathway to both spiritual and social success.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the application of modified Talaqqi methods in al-Qur’an recitation, particularly in mastering the Bayāti rhythm, despite its significant impact on students’ Qur’anic reading skills. The study aims to develop and evaluate a Modified Talaqqi Model to enhance both melodic and vocal performance among students. Adopting a qualitative case study design, the research involves 20 students from Baitul Qurro al-Qur’an Boarding School, Jakarta, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using direct observation, performance recordings, and evaluation rubrics, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative interpretation to assess mastery of melodic patterns and vocal quality. The findings reveal that students achieved high proficiency in song (melodic pattern) and voice quality, with overall average scores of 96.05/100, and that the model effectively improved mastery of the Bayāti rhythm, vocal clarity, and tajwid application. These results confirm the effectiveness of the modified Talaqqi method when combined with audio-visual supports such as QR codes and guitar chords. The study concludes that the Modified Talaqqi Model significantly enhances al-Qur’an recitation skills, providing theoretical contributions to Qur’anic arts education and practical guidance for instructors, and suggests that future research examine its applicability to other rhythms and larger student populations.

Abstract

Mastering fluency and pronunciation in Arabic poses a significant challenge for students, primarily due to a lack of practice and immediate feedback. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology, such as TalkPal AI, offers an interactive solution for practicing conversation; however, its effectiveness needs to be empirically investigated. This study aims to analyze the improvement in students' fluency and pronunciation through an intervention using TalkPal AI. The research employed a mixed methods approach with a convergent parallel design. Quantitative data were obtained from oral tests (pre-test and post-test) and analyzed using N-Gain and Paired Sample T-Tests, while qualitative data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and analyzed thematically. The results indicated a significant improvement in both fluency and pronunciation, as demonstrated by a moderate N-Gain score and the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) in the t-test. The qualitative findings revealed that this improvement was driven by the instant feedback feature, a low-pressure learning environment, and enhanced student confidence. Therefore, TalkPal AI is proven to be an effective learning tool that can comprehensively improve students' speaking competence.
