Abstract

The use of vitamins and micronutrients as an immunity enhancer during the COVID-19 pandemic is needed. The use of vitamins and micronutrients as immunity boosters during the COVID-19 pandemic is very much needed. The description of vitamin needs can be predicted from vitamin sales carried out by network online pharmacies in Indonesia. Vitamins C and E are antioxidants that indirectly have a role as an antiviral. Vitamin D can increase immunity, so its availability is important during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study compares vitamin sales before and during the COVID-19 pandemic at online pharmacies in Indonesia as a description of vitamin use in the community, and their availability by the pharmaceutical industry so that the government can take policies to accelerate this period. The study began by taking master data of all vitamin sales from January 2019 to December 2020 at one of the online pharmacies in Indonesia. Data on all sales each year were grouped based on vitamin content, namely single vitamins, containing two vitamins, and multivitamins (more than two vitamins) and then compared them. Data analysis used the independent t-test, and if the data was not normal and homogeneous, it was processed using the Mann-Whitney test by SPSS version 26 software. The results showed that there was a significant difference between sales of vitamin C (p<0.05), vitamin E (p<0.01), a combination of vitamins B and C (p<0.05), vitamins B and E (p<0.05), and multivitamins (p<0.001) in online pharmacy networks in Indonesia before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interestingly, sales of vitamin D did not increase significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic due to limited supplies from pharmaceutical companies even though vitamin D is very important for increasing immunity, thus giving rise to the policy of the Indonesian Ministry of Health to utilize sunlight as the main source of vitamin D.

Abstract

Pre-service teachers must teach online due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. As a result, they lacked competence, particularly in face-to-face teaching. This study aimed to discover the challenges and opportunities pre-service teachers face when the rules for online learning are enforced. This research was based on the qualitative method. Online interviews and focus group discussions with respondents were used to collect data. The respondents to this study were five students in the fifth semester of 2020 in Indonesia. The data analysis technique used Five Phases of Analysis. The results showed that the main obstacle experienced by pre-service teachers on campus was that they could not experience the face-to-face teaching process because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, they were practicing online teaching. They said they were worried that when they became teachers, they would have to teach face-to-face even though they did not have enough experience doing so. However, this form of online teaching practice provides a better opportunity for pre-service teachers because they are better prepared for future forms of education where education will be integrated with technology. Pre-service teachers' experiences with online instruction during the COVID-19 showed challenges and possibilities dealt with by pre-service teachers where they can take advantage of several advantages or opportunities made available by the pandemic to help them develop into competent ICT educators. They will also have a leg up when the educational system shifts to a hybrid or fully online format in the future.

Abstract

Heat-cured acrylic resin is one of the materials used in making denture bases which has the disadvantage that it easily absorbs water and can make discoloration. Papaya leaves (C. papaya L) contain phenolic compounds (C6H6OH-) which can affect the color change of heat-cured acrylic resin. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of various concentrations of papaya extract on discoloration of the heat-cured acrylic resin denture base. This experimental research is done in vitro at a laboratory using papaya leaf extract (C. papaya L) concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 20%. Thirty two samples of acrylic resin plates were divided into 4 groups, namely the immersion treatment group in papaya leaf extract concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 20%, and the negative control group in the form of aquadest soaking. The color change test was carried out using a UV-visible spectrophotometer. Data was analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA followed by Post-Hoc LSD test. The results of the study showed that there was a very significant difference in the mean value of color change between the treatment groups soaking in papaya leaf extract at concentrations of 10% and 20% and the control group, while at 5% concentration there was no significant difference from the control group. The lowest mean absorbance value was in the distilled water immersion group of 3.341350 ± 0.0942091 and the highest mean absorbance value was in the 20% immersion group of 3.553638 ± 0.0227829. Abstract

Morphine abuse as an opioid is a global public health issue due to its high-risk yet effective use as a potent analgesic. A lack of understanding about morphine can increase the potential for misuse, especially among non-health students who are often not exposed to in-depth information about its risks and benefits. Therefore, counseling on morphine is necessary to improve awareness about this drug. This community service activity aimed to increase the understanding of non-health students about morphine, focusing on its risks and benefits. The activity was conducted through interactive counseling for 20 students from the Department of Informatics Engineering at Universitas Global Jakarta, utilizing educational posters as the medium of instruction. Evaluation was performed using pre-tests and post-tests to measure participants' understanding before and after the counseling. The pre-test results showed a low initial understanding of only 37.5%. After counseling, there was a significant improvement in the students' learning, with the post-test results reaching 95%. These results demonstrate that communicative and visual educational methods are effective in bridging the knowledge gap among students from different disciplines. Counseling on morphine not only enhanced understanding of its risks and benefits but also enriched chemical literacy and public health awareness. Such education is essential for raising awareness among students about the potential risks of drug abuse. In the future, this type of counseling should be expanded to other study programs and further enhanced with more profound knowledge of health policies related to the use of high-risk drugs.
