Abstract

Environmental education (EE) is a crucial issue amid acute environmental degradation. This study aims to analyze the content of Islamic eco-theology in Indonesia's Islamic Religious and Character Education (IRCE) curriculum and integrate it into the curriculum as a form of offering ethical spirituality in environmental education to enhance environmental education. This study is qualitative research that incorporates the literature study supported by structured interviews and document studies. Interviews were used to collect data that concerned teachers of high schools of IRCE in Semarang, Central Java. Document studies were employed to address the IRCE curriculum of High Schools, journal articles, and government policy documents. Data analysis used the descriptive-interactive method. The results showed that the curriculum of IRCE emphasizes the affective domain in environmental education matters. However, it does not yet address the cognitive one appropriately, so IRCE teachers teach environmental education by inserting relevant IRCE themes. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating eco-theology in the IRCE curriculum and recommends that Islamic eco-theology be included in the IRCE curriculum in Indonesia so that the inculcation of environmental education values can work better through IRCE learning.

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the factors influencing the financial management accountability of Pondok Pesantren, with a particular emphasis on the pivotal role of Kiai leadership. By using structural equation modeling (SEM), this paper focuses on several key variables, namely Kiai leadership, human resource (HR) competency, perception of accounting standards, and information technology (IT) usage. The research was carried out at a Salafiyah Pondok Pesantren, involving students, asatidz councils, and administrators as respondents. Data was collected from 140 respondents using purposive sampling. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using SEM to examine both direct relationships and indirect (mediated) effects among the study variables. The findings of the study suggest that the leadership of the Kiai and the competency of human resources play a vital role in shaping Pesantren's financial accountability. In contrast, the adoption of information technology and the perception of accounting standards do not significantly impact. Furthermore, Kiai leadership strongly influences HR competency, IT usage, and perceptions of accounting guidelines. The study also reveals that HR competency significantly mediates Kiai leadership and financial accountability. These results emphasize the strategic importance of strengthening HR capabilities and reaffirm Kiai leadership's central role in enhancing financial management practices' accountability in Pesantren.

Abstract

For Muslim customers, the halal validity of cosmetics is a major concern. In cosmetics industry, one critical aspect is the contamination of porcine derivatives in halal cosmetic products. This review method discusses the application of real-time PCR (RT-PCR) for the detection of porcine DNA in cosmetic products, including the principle of the method, DNA extraction protocol, primers and probes design, and method application in various types of cosmetic products. DNA extraction from the cosmetic matrix samples requires optimization due to the complexity of the material and the possibility of DNA degradation during the cosmetic production process. The precise primers and probes design is also crucial to ensure specificity towards porcine DNA. The application of the RT-PCR method has been successful in various forms of cosmetics such as creams, lotions, lipsticks, and soaps, although each type of cosmetic product has unique challenges. Performance evaluation of the RT-PCR method showed good repeatability and reproducibility with coefficients of variation (CV) below 10% in numerous studies. The main challenges of the method include extraction of DNA due to the DNA degradation during the cosmetics production process, interference from cosmetic ingredients to RT-PCR analysis, and the need for method standardization. Solutions that have been developed such as the use of short gene targets, PCR additives to overcome inhibitors, and amplification techniques such as digital PCR to improve sensitivity. The recent development has led to the integration of protein-based methods and international standardization to support cosmetic halal certifications.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of local language (Madurese) interference on foreign language (Arabic) acquisition among rural Indonesian santri communities. Recognizing that traditional views often frame interference as a linguistic deficit, this research addresses a gap in the existing literature by exploring the deeper sociolinguistic dynamics and informal language use within rural pesantren settings. Specifically, it aims to analyze (1) forms of local language interference in Arabic, (2) factors causing such interference, and (3) its impact on santri speaking skills. Employing a qualitative-ethnographic design, the study collected data through naturalistic observation and unstructured interviews with 79 Madurese-speaking santri in Gondanglegi sub-district, East Java, analyzing them within a sociolinguistic framework grounded in interference theory and diglossia. Findings reveal significant phonological, morphological, syntactic, and lexical interference patterns demonstrably linked to the unique sociocultural context of pesantren multilingualism. Critically, these interferences are not merely errors but actively foster community, playfulness, and shared identity, thereby transforming Arabic into a more dynamic and engaging learning experience. This research offers a novel sociolinguistic analysis, arguing that interference in this context functions as an active strategy for religious pedagogy and cultural preservation. It expands translanguaging theory by highlighting the sacred-secular duality in language mixing—a phenomenon rarely documented in traditional Islamic education globally.

Abstract

Qiṣāṣ is a legal principle that existed in pre-Islamic religions, and in Surah Al-Maidah (5:32-33), the law of qiṣāṣ intersects with Biblical sources. However, the intertextual readings by mufasirun (Qur'anic commentators) are often disproportionate. Additionally, the concept of Orientalist intertextual analysis has created a disconnect with the field of ‘ulūm al-Qur'ān (sciences of the Qur'an), which has implications for the interpretation of these verses. This article aims to explore the Qur'ān's stance on the Biblical tradition in the context of qiṣāṣ through intertextual analysis, applying the principles of ‘ulūm al-Qur'ān. As part of a literature review, the primary source, Surah Al-Maidah (5:32-33), will be examined alongside secondary sources, including scholarly and Orientalist interpretations, to enhance the analysis. This study employs the qualitative data analysis method developed by Miles and Huberman, which involves data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion/verification. This article demonstrates that the Qur'ān engages with the Biblical tradition in two significant ways: 1) It affirms qiṣāṣ as a law that is already present in Abrahamic religious texts, specifically in Leviticus and the Mishnah Sanhedrin. This affirmation highlights the Qur'ān's intertextual connection with the broader Biblical tradition; 2) The Qur'ān revises the earlier concept of qiṣāṣ in the context of a critique directed at the ahl al-Kitāb of Medina and a condemnation of the behaviors characteristic of the Jahiliyya Arabs. Furthermore, Qur'an 5:32 can be interpreted as a foundational principle for the application of diyat in Islamic law, distinguishing it from previous qiṣāṣ laws
