Abstract

This study examines the relationship between carbon tax payments, electricity production costs, and carbon emission indicators in coal-fired power plants (PLTU) in Indonesia following the implementation of the carbon tax policy in 2022. Using post-implementation operational data, this study applies a descriptive and associative quantitative approach, acknowledging the potential endogeneity and mechanical relationships embedded in emission-based fiscal variables. The results indicate that carbon tax payments are not significantly associated with electricity production costs, suggesting that cost structures remain dominated by coal prices and operational efficiency. In contrast, a strong positive association is observed between carbon tax payments and carbon emission intensity, reflecting the mechanical linkage between emission-based taxes and emission indicators rather than policy effectiveness. These findings imply that the current carbon tax in Indonesia functions primarily as a fiscal and emission-reporting instrument, rather than an effective environmental control mechanism. The study highlights the need for complementary policies, technological upgrades, and more robust empirical designs to properly evaluate the environmental effectiveness of carbon taxation

Abstract

This study addresses the epistemological gap between exoteric knowledge (‘ilm al-lisān) and esoteric knowledge (‘ilm al-qalb) in pesantren education, which often results in a dichotomy between linguistic competence and ethical conduct. The study offers a new pedagogical model by integrating Sufistic elements into Nahw (Arabic grammar) education, thus contributing to the moral and spiritual formation of students. Using a qualitative approach with an Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) design at Pesantren Babussalam Pagelaran, data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation with teachers and senior students. The findings reveal that Sufistic Nahw pedagogy transforms Nahw from a mere linguistic tool into a medium for tazkiyat al-nafs. By reviving symbolic interpretations of grammatical structures within the Sufi tradition and applying the takhallī–taḥallī–tajallī framework, this integration effectively fosters moral awareness, modesty (al-ḥayā’), and self-control among students. This research provides a significant pedagogical innovation by positioning linguistic education as a core component of spiritual development in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

One of the causes of the currently unpredictable climate change is the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Indonesia uses a carbon tax policy as a fiscal tool to control greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. The main focus of the research is on the implementation mechanisms, the basis for imposition, and its impact on the energy sector, which is one of the major contributors to national emissions. Research methods use quantitative methods with a descriptive approach to process secondary data collected from emission reports, energy consumption documentation, and government regulations by evaluating tariff structure data, sector coverage, and policy effectiveness 2022-2024 period. It is uncovered by the research finding that the average carbon tax burden is substantial, with a rather uniform distribution, which does not substantially decrease emissions. Several difficulties of the policy effectiveness are coming from technical constraints and weak supervision This study contributes to understanding the role of carbon tax in environmental policy in Indonesia, particularly to improve efficiency and control emissions in the energy generation industry. The research results show that the carbon tax contributes to carbon emission savings that are expected to reduce the effects of global warming in Indonesia. In addition, the conducted study contributes to the literature by providing an overview of the calculation of the role of carbon tax in carbon emission efficiency, whereas previous studies focused only on the potential of carbon tax in qualitative observations.

Abstract

As Generation Z begins to join the workforce in greater numbers, gaining a deeper understanding of their traits becomes increasingly essential. This study aims to explore the relationship between Ambidextrous Leadership (AL) and Motivation (M) in influencing Employee Performance (EP), with Employee Satisfaction (ES) examined as a potential mediating variable, specifically among Gen Z employees in Indonesia's banking sector. A total of 307 Gen Z employees from prominent banks across Indonesia participated in the study, selected through purposive judgment sampling. The data was analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method. Findings revealed that both AL and M significantly influenced ES and EP directly. However, ES did not significantly affect EP, nor did it mediate the relationships between AL and EP or M and EP. The findings highlight the need for an integrated strategy to enhance EP, focusing on strengthening ambidextrous leadership and boosting motivation. Leaders should embody an ambidextrous mindset, being adaptable, innovative, willing to take calculated risks, and attentive to performance outcomes. To improve motivation, companies should cultivate a supportive workplace culture, conduct routine performance assessments, and provide transparent career development opportunities. Companies should form ambidextrous leadership by conducting training and development, developing a flexible mindset, implementing a balanced reward system, honing communication skills and managing conflict effectively.

Abstract

Critical reading is a core academic competence for International Relations students who regularly engage with global news texts. Such texts frequently embed ideological framing, selective evidence, and political agendas that require analytical interpretation. This study examines students’ self-perceived critical reading competence after instruction using the Global News Analysis Model (GNAM). It also explores students’ perceptions of GNAM’s effectiveness and identifies instructional components perceived as most influential. A quantitative descriptive survey was conducted with 72 International Relations students who completed GNAM-based learning activities. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. Reliability analysis showed strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.88). Results indicate moderate to high perceived critical reading competence, with the strongest confidence in identifying main claims (M = 4.12, SD = 0.54) and the weakest in detecting media bias and framing (M = 3.31, SD = 0.73). GNAM was perceived as effective overall (M = 4.07, SD = 0.45), particularly in comparative media analysis (M = 4.26, SD = 0.49). The findings suggest that GNAM supports students’ analytical awareness of global news, although deeper ideological evaluation remains challenging.

Abstract

Zakat has increasingly been recognized as a strategic Islamic economic instrument for poverty alleviation and social welfare development. However, the effectiveness of zakat in improving the economic conditions of mustahik remains inconsistent due to complex interactions among institutional, psychological, and economic factors. Despite extensive studies on zakat distribution and poverty reduction, few have examined the structural relationships among these factors using a comprehensive quantitative approach. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the determinants of successful zakat utilization in alleviating poverty. This study employs a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to examine the relationships among key variables influencing zakat program effectiveness. The sample consists of 258 mustahik who participated in productive zakat programs in West Java, Indonesia. Data were collected via structured questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale and analyzed with AMOS. The results indicate that the proposed model demonstrates an acceptable level of goodness-of-fit, with values of CMIN/DF = 2.551, CFI = 0.902, TLI = 0.887, and RMSEA = 0.078. The findings reveal that organizational support significantly influences education, motivation, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment, while education and motivation significantly contribute to economic empowerment. Furthermore, economic empowerment directly contributes to poverty alleviation, suggesting that productive zakat programs can generate sustainable welfare improvements when supported by robust institutional mechanisms. These findings suggest that zakat institutions should strengthen capacity-building programs, entrepreneurial mentoring, and integrated empowerment strategies to enhance the long-term effectiveness of zakat in alleviating poverty.

Abstract

Bay leaves plant (Syzygium polyanthum Wight), from the Myrtaceae family, are traditionally used for their medicinal properties due to bioactive compounds like phenolics, flavonoids, and steroids with antioxidant activity. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant potential of bay leaf extract by measuring total phenolic and flavonoid content and assessing free radical scavenging activity. Fresh leaves were collected in Yogyakarta in December 2024, dried, and extracted via methanol maceration, followed by fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and aqueous solvents. The Folin-Ciocalteu method was used to measure total phenolic content, iusing gallic acid asiaireferenceistandard, irevealing high phenolic levels, particularly in the ethyl acetate fraction (198.20 ± 0.42 mg GAE/g). The Folin-Ciocalteu method was used to measure total phenolic content, using gallic acid as a reference standard, showing significant flavonoid levels, with the ethyl acetate fraction at 62.06 ± 1.76 mg QE/g. The DPPH assay was utilized to assess antioxidant activity, revealing that the ethyl acetate fraction had the lowest IC50 value (41.71 ±i0.617 µg/mL), demonstrating potent free radical scavenging ability similar to ascorbic acid (9.61 ± 0.138 µg/mL) The ethyl acetate fraction contains a significant amount of phenolics and flavonoids correlated strongly with its antioxidant capacity, highlighting bay leaves as a promising source for herbal medicine development. These findings validate the traditional use of bay leaves and offer updated quantitative data on phenolic/flavonoid levels and antioxidant capacity, highlighting their promise for natural health product development.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is intended to reach every student, including children with intellectual disabilities (tunagrahita). In practice, however, specialized PAI teaching materials for these children are virtually nonexistent. Teachers still rely on textbooks designed for typically developing students or create their own modules without using appropriate methods, directly contradicting National Education Law No. 20 of 2003, Article 5 Paragraph 2, which mandates special education for citizens with physical, emotional, mental, intellectual, or social disabilities. Previous studies on PAI for children with special needs have only described conventional planning and evaluation without developing tailored approaches. This study aims to develop ABA-based PAI teaching materials for children with intellectual disabilities. It employs a literature review method by systematically collecting, reading, recording, and analyzing journals, books, and documents on teaching materials and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).The findings demonstrate that ABA-based PAI materials are critically needed. ABA, originally developed for autism, has proven highly effective for other disorders such as ADHD and Asperger’s syndrome, as well as for typically developing children. For tunagrahita students facing significant intellectual and adaptive limitations, this approach systematically shapes specific behaviors into socially acceptable ones and optimally supports PAI competency mastery. In conclusion, ABA-based PAI teaching materials represent a vital innovation that fulfills the national legal mandate for meaningful and inclusive Islamic Religious Education
