Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the frequency of artificial feeding Hi-Pro-Vite 781N-1 on the effective growth of goldfish (Cyprinus carpio) in Timor Leste, Timor. The study used a complete randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications, in which the conditions of the test unit are carried out according to randomization for all test units. The results of the research conducted for eight weeks (56 days) regarding the frequency for artificial feeding hi-pro-vite 780N-1 were: water temperature, water oxygen, sin water, and total dissolved solids (TDS) of 42.4 ppm, and the results of water quality measurements once a week in the morning (08.00 WIB), on average (20.00 htl) and in the afternoon (05.00) for 8 weeks (58 days). The results obtained during the research week (65 days) fresh at water temperature with a value of 20.2 oC with water oxygen 2.89 pmm, water content 8.3 pmm and TDS 42.4 pmm are indeed a good tolerance for the growth of carp fry (Cyprinus caprio). The behavioral impact of feeding frequency on carp growth and health is explored to refine feeding practices that promote well-being alongside growth. The findings could benefit feed manufacturers and aquaculture stakeholders by informing product development and feeding strategies tailored to maximize growth in carp, contributing to sustainable aquaculture practices. This study offers practical guidance for optimizing feeding practices to enhance growth efficiency, which is crucial for improving fish yield and farm productivity.

Abstract

The planned reclamation of Lae-Lae Island undoubtedly poses a threat to the marine ecosystem and the livelihoods of the surrounding fishing communities. This research aims to depict the dynamics of spatial contestation arising from this situation. To elucidate these dynamics, the researcher employs Henri Lefebvre's sociology of space and Edward Soja's geographical imagination. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation involving twenty-three informants. Findings reveal the dynamics of spatial contestation on Lae-Lae Island, including the emergence of spatial awareness as a socio-economic arena and the mobilization of resources from both the island community and external parties. Internal mobilization, led by community leaders, actively fosters solidarity among residents in rejecting the reclamation, while external resource mobilization involves actors from environmental organizations, media, and academia. The research concludes that community resistance stems from the direct implications of reclamation on residents' living space and livelihoods, particularly those of fishermen. The integration of Henri Lefebvre's sociological analysis and Edward Soja's geographical imagination provides a fresh perspective on social movement phenomena and spatial contestation.

Abstract

The Halmahera Walking Shark (Hemiscyllium halmahera) is an endemic fish in the Halmahera Sea. This species is distributed and found in the Kao Bay sea. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) data shows that the Halmahera Walking Shark is in the Near Threatened status. Protection is carried out to protect the population, therefore scientific data and information are needed. This study focuses on the biological structure of the Halmahera Walking Shark population in Kao Bay sea. Data collection was carried out exploratively in coral reef, seagrass, mangrove ecosystems and by-catch. Samples were taken for morphometric data, weight and sex. Morphometric data were analyzed to obtain cohorts, separation index, class intervals, length-weight relationships and condition factors of walking shark. The result were found to be 33 individuals (13 male and 20 female). Morphological characteristics based on morphometric variables found no significant differences. Analysis of the cohort of the Halmahera Walking Shark (H.halmahera) found 3 groups namely the juvenile, mature and old age phases. The separation index shows that individuals come from different populations based on length. Growth pattern of the Halmahera Walking Shark (H.halmahera) is negative allometric. The histogram of the frequency distribution between classes found small to large size structures with different relative frequency percentages. The condition factor found that the body proportions of the Halmahera Walking Shark (H.halmahera) were in the plump category. All of this information is important to provide scientific data specifications to population. Keywords : Endemism, Halmahera, Morphology, Island, Semi enclosed
