Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools is still dominated by conventional methods that do not foster the development of critical thinking skills. This challenge is relevant to 21st-century learning and the Independent Curriculum, which demands the integration of technology and high-level thinking skills. This research aims to analyze the effect of Brain-Based Learning (BBL) supported by PhET Simulations on the critical thinking abilities of fifth-grade students in Magelang City. The research approach uses a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. The research instrument is an essay test to measure critical thinking abilities. The results of the analysis show that the BBL model assisted by PhET Simulation provides a significant improvement in critical thinking abilities. Data testing uses the t-test and N-Gain to prove the hypothesis. The t-test produces a significance value of 0.00 < 0.05, indicating a significant effect of using BBL assisted by the PhET Simulation. This finding is strengthened by the average N-Gain value of 0.5002, which falls within the medium category, indicating that brain-based work learning is quite effective in improving students' critical thinking abilities. Integration of BBL and PhET Simulations proved effective in supporting 21st-century skills. Implementing this model can provide learning experiences that support optimal brain function through technology, making it relevant for developing 21st-century skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop valid, practical, and effective ethnoliteracy-based digital teaching materials for imaginative story learning in elementary schools. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D Thiagarajan model, consisting of the definition, design, development, and dissemination stages. The participants included fifth-grade students in Tasikmalaya Regency, teachers, and expert validators in language, content, and media. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The needs analysis indicated a strong demand for digital teaching materials among teachers (94.7%) and high student interest in digital media (92.6%) and visual illustrations (90.8%). Expert validation scores demonstrated that the product was feasible in terms of language (3.4), content (3.4), and highly feasible in media design (3.6). Field trials showed that the digital teaching materials were practical, engaging, and enhanced students’ imaginative story-writing abilities and ethnoliteracy understanding. The effectiveness was reflected in the improvement of students’ average scores from 70.34 (pretest) to 81.45 (posttest), with an average N-Gain of 0.40 categorized as moderate. Overall, the ethnoliteracy-based digital teaching materials are feasible and effective as an innovative resource for Indonesian language learning and contribute to strengthening students’ cultural identity in the digital era.

Abstract

Numeracy represents a core competency required to navigate the demands of the 21st century. This research aimed to investigate how traditional games influence elementary students’ numeracy abilities and motivation to learn mathematics. This quantitative research involved 60 fourth-grade students from two randomly selected classes in an elementary school in Ngawi Regency, consisting of 30 students in the experimental group (exposed to traditional games) and 30 students in the control group (not given the treatment). Data were collected through numeracy tests (pretest and posttest) and learning motivation questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the Independent Sample t-Test. The findings revealed that: (a) there was a significant effect on numeracy skills in the experimental group after the implementation of traditional game-based learning (t = 5.103, p = 0.000); and (b) there was a significant effect on mathematics learning motivation in the experimental group (t = 6.382, p = 0.000). Therefore, it is crucial for teachers to integrate traditional games effectively as a strategy to enhance numeracy skills and learning motivation in elementary education.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum represents an educational reform aimed at enhancing the quality of learning in Indonesia. A central component of this curriculum is the Project for Strengthening the Profile of Pancasila Students (P5), which seeks to cultivate students’ core values, including religious character. However, the religious dimension of the P5 profile remains underexplored, especially at the elementary level. This study analyzes the implementation of the P5 project in developing students’ religious profiles in elementary schools in Kebumen, focusing on Grades I and IV. Data were collected using focus group discussions, interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Findings reveal that students exhibit strong religious characteristics across five indicators: religious behavior (88.75%), personal behavior (88.50%), social behavior (87.88%), environmental behavior (80.50%), and national behavior (88.00%). These outcomes place the religious attitudes of students in the "excellent" category. Schools employed various strategies to instill religious values aligned with the P5 framework. These included narrative-based instruction, daily habituation practices, and teacher modeling to foster faith, piety toward God, and noble conduct. The implementation of P5 in the religious dimension has been effective in cultivating strong religious attitudes among elementary students. These findings highlight the importance of integrated character-building approaches within the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study explores contemporary patterns of cultural transmission of gamelan among children in Surakarta through the interconnection between formal school learning and community-based learning. Using an ethnopedagogical perspective grounded in Social Learning Theory (Bandura, 1986), the research examines how observation, imitation, modeling, and reinforcement function as interconnected processes in karawitan education. Data were collected through an ethnographic approach that included interviews, observations, and visual documentation by observing extracurricular practices and gamelan learning activities in elementary school programs in Surakarta. The findings show that gamelan learning functions not only as musical instruction but also as a moral enculturation process, where collective practices cultivate social values such as rukun (harmony), gotong royong (cooperation), and tata krama (cultural respect). These findings affirm that the sustainability of Javanese musical heritage depends on active collaboration between schools and local communities, which transforms traditional music into a living pedagogical medium. Integrating traditional arts into formal education can foster mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning, a culturally grounded approach that blends skills, empathy, and collective happiness.
