Abstract

Urban expansion in tropical cities significantly alters surface thermal conditions, intensifying the urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon. This study aims to estimate and analyze the spatiotemporal dynamics of land surface temperature (LST) in Gorontalo City from 1995 to 2025 using a spatial machine learning (SML) approach based on the Random Forest (RF) algorithm. Multitemporal Landsat 5, 7, 8, and 9 images were processed in Google Earth Engine (GEE) to derive surface reflectance, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), emissivity, and brightness temperature, which were subsequently employed as predictor variables in the LST model. A total of 50 ground validation points were used to assess model performance. The RF model achieved high predictive accuracy with an R² of 0.833, RMSE of ±3.33 °C, and MAE of ±2.80 °C, outperforming conventional NDVI-based models. The long-term analysis revealed a consistent increase in LST across urbanized zones, particularly in the city center and northern districts, while areas with higher vegetation cover exhibited lower LST values. The negative correlation between NDVI and LST (R² = 0.3132) confirms the critical role of vegetation in mitigating urban thermal intensity. These findings highlight the applicability of the RF-based SML framework for accurate LST estimation and urban climate monitoring, providing a scientific basis for sustainable urban planning and green infrastructure development in tropical cities.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition characterized by blood pressure rising above normal levels, commonly referred to as high blood pressure. Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure of ≥140 mmHg and diastolic pressure of >90 mmHg. It is a disease with a high prevalence of disability and mortality rates each year and is often referred to as “the silent killer.” This study aimed to determine the relationship between physical activity and nitric oxide levels with the incidence of hypertension among the elderly at Nanggalo Public Health Center. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 137 respondents were selected using a simple random sampling technique. The research was conducted from March to April 2025. Data analysis was performed using Chi-square and Pearson Correlation tests. Results: The Chi-square test showed a significant relationship between physical activity and the incidence of hypertension (p = 0.006) at Nanggalo Public Health Center, indicating that physical activity is associated with hypertension among the elderly. Meanwhile, the Pearson Correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between nitric oxide intake and hypertension (p = 0.146; p > 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between physical activity and the incidence of hypertension among the elderly. However, there is no significant relationship between nitric oxide intake and the incidence of hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Stunting prevalence in Agam Regency continues to rise, making it the highest in West Sumatra. This condition is influenced by various family factors—such as number of children, birth spacing, and age at marriage—as well as environmental factors like access to clean water and adequate sanitation. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the relationship between family and environmental factors and the risk of mothers giving birth to stunted children, as a basis for more targeted preventive interventions. Methods: This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted in Agam Regency from September 2024 to May 2025. A total of 398 families were selected from 67,429 families based on BKKBN data. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test to assess variable relationships, and logistic regression to identify dominant factors influencing the risk of stunting in mothers. Results: The study in Agam Regency found a significant relationship between various family and environmental factors and the risk of mothers giving birth to stunted children. Chi-Square tests showed that the number of children, birth spacing, extreme marriage age, source of drinking water, and sanitation were all significant (p < 0.05). Logistic regression identified the drinking water source as the most dominant factor (p = 0.019). These findings highlight the importance of access to clean water and proper sanitation in preventing stunting at the family level. Conclusion: This study concludes that family and environmental factors significantly influence the risk of mothers giving birth to stunted children, with the source of drinking water identified as the most dominant factor. Therefore, improving access to clean water and providing nutrition education-particularly for pregnant women and mothers of children under five-is crucial in preventing stunting.

Abstract

The low ability of students to achieve learning outcomes in chemistry concepts, including colloid material, is influenced by various factors such as limited study time, inadequate facilities, and teaching methods that do not align with the material. One effective method for enhancing student learning outcomes is the experimental method. This study aims to assess student activity, learning results, and feedback on the learning process for colloids. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research involved 22 students from class XI MIA 2 at SMA Negeri 1 Terangun, selected through purposive sampling. Instruments included observation questionnaires, learning outcome tests, and student feedback questionnaires. Content validation has been conducted for all instruments by one expert and one practitioner, who have declared them valid and feasible to use. Results showed increased student activity with 94% at the second meeting and 96% at the third. Learning outcomes improved, with average completion rates rising from 64% at the second meeting to 86% at the third. Feedback indicated 61% strongly agree, 36% agree, and 3% somewhat agree regarding the experimental method. This study concludes that the experimental method for exploring the types and properties of colloids can enhance student activity and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Wayang klithik is a two-dimensional wooden puppetry tradition found in Central and East Java. In Gotanjung Village, Pati Regency, Central Java, wayang klithik is performed every year as part of sedekah bumi ceremony, a ritual to express gratitude for agricultural blessings. This study analyzes how wayang klithik in Gotanjung’s sedekah bumi functions as a ritual performance in which ancestral legitimation within a syncretic Islamic framework serves as a mechanism that sustains the tradition. It also examines how sedekah bumi and wayang klithik work together in reinforcing Gotanjung’s agrarian identity. Employing a performative ethnographic method, data were collected through field observations, interviews with key informants, and focus group discussions. The findings reveal that wayang klithik performance in sedekah bumi plays a crucial role in demonstrating the practice of tawassul through ancestral figures within syncretic Islam, providing a case study of how local cosmology and religious syncretism intersect to sustain cultural legitimacy. The study contributes to understanding how Islamic devotional practices are negotiated within a Javanese cosmocentric framework through ritual performance, offering insights for the preservation of both sedekah bumi and wayang klithik traditions.
