Abstract

This phenomenological study examines how university students from diverse social, cultural, and academic backgrounds experience an inclusive classroom in the course “Pengembangan Keberagaman Peserta Didik” at Institut KH Ahmad Sanusi Sukabumi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three students with contrasting socio-economic conditions and communication norms, interviews with two lecturers, and one cycle of classroom observation. We conducted thematic analysis through repeated reading, open coding, clustering, and triangulation across sources. The findings show that psychological safety grows when lecturers respond to mistakes without judgment, yet it becomes fragile when discussions are dominated by a few students and when identity-related jokes target accent or social class. Learning access is constrained by fast pacing, dense academic language, and unequal access to devices, which pushes some students to rely on phones, peers, and self-study to keep up. Perceived fairness strengthens when lecturers provide transparent rubrics, written feedback, opportunities for revision or remedial work, and reasonable accommodations such as flexible deadlines. Cultural norms of politeness and respect for hierarchy also shape participation, often leading students to disagree indirectly. These results support more structured discussion protocols, anti-mockery norms, low-tech alternatives, and explicit assessment guidance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum from the perspective of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) at MAN 2 Sukabumi City. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with the vice principal for curriculum affairs, PAI teachers, and students, as well as document analysis of syllabi, teaching modules, and assessment instruments. The findings reveal that the PAI curriculum at MAN 2 Sukabumi City has implicitly integrated OBE principles, including clearly formulated learning objectives, the implementation of active learning methods, religious practices as indicators of competency achievement, and authentic assessment covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. However, the implementation of OBE has not yet been fully formalized and still faces challenges, such as limited instructional time and the uneven understanding of OBE concepts among teachers. This study contributes to the transformation of the PAI curriculum toward competency-based learning in the context of Islamic senior high schools (madrasah aliyah).

Abstract

The digital era necessitates transformation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning to remain relevant and engaging for students. This qualitative case study aims to comprehensively analyze the use of digital media in PAI learning, focusing on the challenges and opportunities that arise at SMP Negeri 1 Sukabumi City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal and PAI teachers, learning observations, and document studies. The research findings indicate that the school has established supportive policies and strong leadership commitment. Implementation in the classroom, although still at a supplementary stage utilizing presentations and videos, has successfully increased student engagement and learning motivation. However, this integration faces complex challenges, including infrastructure limitations, digital competency gaps, and the core dilemma of maintaining alignment with Islamic values. Teachers develop adaptive strategies such as blended learning and simple content curation. To achieve transformative integration, it is necessary to strengthen teacher competencies in Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) within the PAI context, develop ethical guidelines for digital content curation, and design learning that deliberately bridges digital understanding with the practical application of values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation strategies of the new paradigm of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in strengthening students’ religious character in the contemporary era. The method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with PAI teachers and students, observations of learning activities and religious practices, as well as documentation of religious programs such as congregational prayers, Qur’an recitation, wirid practices, and classical Islamic book studies (kitab kuning). The results of the study indicate that the new paradigm of PAI is implemented through contextual and active learning, teacher role modeling, and habituation of worship practices supported by a pesantren culture. These strategies have a positive impact on strengthening students’ religious character, as reflected in improved discipline in worship, better moral behavior, and greater social awareness. The integration between classroom learning and religious practices outside the classroom creates a holistic educational environment. However, challenges remain, including the influence of social media and students’ consistency in applying religious attitudes outside the school environment. Overall, the new paradigm of PAI has proven effective in addressing contemporary educational challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of an interdisciplinary learning approach based on digital literacy in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at SD Negeri Palasari, Sukabumi Regency. The research is grounded in the growing need to enhance the quality and relevance of Islamic education in response to digital transformation and the demands of 21st-century learning. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and school stakeholders, and document analysis of lesson plans and learning materials. The findings reveal that interdisciplinary learning supported by digital literacy enables IRE instruction to become more contextual, integrative, and meaningful by connecting religious concepts with other disciplines and real-life situations. The study also identifies key supporting factors, including teachers’ pedagogical competence, institutional support, and access to basic digital resources, alongside inhibiting factors such as limited instructional time and uneven digital literacy skills among educators. The results contribute to the development of an interdisciplinary framework for Islamic education at the primary level and highlight the potential of digital literacy as a strategic component in strengthening holistic and value-based learning.

Abstract

AbstractThis study analyzes the effectiveness of developing madrasah principals’ leadership based on local assets and Islamic management values through the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach in Bandung, Indonesia. A qualitative applied method was employed using the five-phase ABCD framework like Discovery, Dream, Design, Define, and Destiny. Participants included the Head of Madrasah Affairs at the Bandung Ministry of Religious Affairs, four supervisors, and ten principals representing RA, MI, MTs, and MA levels. Data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), structured observations, and document analysis, and validated using triangulation of sources and techniques. The results show that the ABCD approach effectively strengthened principals’ leadership capacities by systematically leveraging human, social, natural, infrastructural, and financial assets. All madrasahs produced validated asset maps; nine action plans achieved feasibility scores ≥70, and seven madrasahs implemented over 70% of their priority actions. The values of amanah (trust), adl (justice), shura (consultation), itqan (excellence), and ihsan (benevolence) served as ethical foundations guiding consistent and collaborative leadership. This study concludes that asset-based and value-driven leadership through small, high-impact actions enhances managerial effectiveness and can be replicated in other urban madrasahs.AbstrakPenelitian ini menganalisis efektivitas pengembangan kepemimpinan kepala madrasah berbasis aset lokal dan nilai-nilai manajemen Islam melalui pendekatan Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) di Kota Bandung. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of educational facilities and infrastructure planning at Pesantren Miftahul Ulum Subang and its contribution to learning effectiveness. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, using in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving 19 participants, including the boarding school leader, teachers, students, and facilities managers. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of facilities management and their impact on the learning process. The findings indicate that the needs analysis for facilities is not yet systematic and largely relies on informal reports. Facilities procurement is carried out gradually based on priority needs and available financial resources. Several facilities are underutilized due to the absence of standard operational procedures and limited supervision. The study also shows that the quality of facilities has a direct influence on learning effectiveness by enhancing classroom comfort and supporting instructional methods. It is concluded that structured and data-driven facilities planning is essential for improving the quality of learning in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study examines how a madrasah principal practices transformational–relational leadership in managing multigenerational teachers and the implications for teacher performance and institutional achievement. Generational diversity among teachers increasingly influences organizational dynamics through differences in work values, communication styles, and professional expectations. In Islamic educational institutions, these challenges are further shaped by the integration of managerial practices with religious and moral values. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research was conducted at MI Al-Inayah Kota Bandung to capture in-depth leadership practices within a specific multigenerational context. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques supported by data triangulation. The findings show that transformational–relational leadership functions as a foundational mechanism for aligning teachers across generations through shared vision, relational trust, and psychological safety. Leadership practices emphasizing empathy, role modeling, and inclusive communication enable the constructive management of generational differences. Competency-based and collaborative strategies support effective role distribution, cross-generational collaboration, and mutual learning. These practices contribute to increased teacher motivation, strong professional loyalty, low turnover, and sustained achievement in madrasahs. This study extends transformational leadership discourse in a multigenerational Islamic education context and offers practical leadership strategies for managing generational diversity.
