Abstract

This study aims to look at the trend of Light Rail Transit (LRT) mass transportation during the covid-19 pandemic as a lesson for multimodal transportation courses. The type of qualitative research that becomes a research instrument is the researcher himself (the author) who is directly involved in the research. The determination of informants in this study uses purposive techniques where only certain people or parties will be used as research objectives as a source of information, namely Informant I: Head of the Section on the Utilization of Facilities and Infrastructure, Informant II: Officials making committees of public service agencies, Informant III: Managers of Passenger Numbers and Revenues, Informant IV: Train Travel Organizers.  The results of the study are expected to be able to measure the level of understanding of cadets in the Multiomoda Transportation course. Through the pre-test as the average basis for cadets' knowledge of the Multimodal Transportation course of 87.00, then an intervention was carried out through education and material training based on the results of a research study of light rail transit (LRT) mass transportation trends before and after the Covid-19 Pandemic and a reassessment was carried out to obtain the average post-test results and the results changed to 91.86.  Through the Paired Sample T-Test test, the significance value of the pre-test and post-test can be tested, a significance value of 0.000 is obtained, which means that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test values.  Furthermore, it can be seen the Correlation value of 0.525 which shows the strength of the relationship of the 2 variables tested, namely pre-test and post-test.

Abstract

An understanding of a school’s culture was essential to quality management. In this study the researchers identified the international school’s culture in Singapore International School (SIS) Palembang, Indonesia and Jerudong International School (JIS) Brunei Darussalam. The approach used in this paper was qualitative, case study. The data were collected by using observation, interview, and documentation. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman’s Model. The results obtained indicate that the school’s culture in SIS was building students’ character such as honesty, sincerity, creativity, compliance with rules and norms. While in JIS, the students should take responsibility for themselves and others. They take the initiative, evaluate the situation in front of them and make decisions accordingly. JIS thrives on mutual respect by working with people from different backgrounds. Keywords: School’s Culture, SIS Palembang, JIS Brunei Darussalam

Abstract

The Komering cultural local content curriculum was adopted at Muhammadiyah Primary School in 2021. The school is using the Komering cultural local content curriculum to help pupils comprehend local culture. However, the development of the local content curriculum in schools has not been founded on a scientific review of the curriculum, thus, teachers who carry out Komering cultural local content are still drawn from general instructors or do not have backgrounds in arts and culture education. As a result, the implementation is incomplete. The goal of this research was to find out what role educators had in the implementation of the Komering Culture Local Content Curriculum at Muhammadiyah Primary School. Local content instructors' grasp of Komering cultural knowledge, the learning process for Komering culture local content, and assessment of learning results. The method utilised is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The instrument employed observation and interviews, which were then evaluated using descriptive qualitative methods using Miles and Huberman’s theory. The findings revealed that the basic concerns of schools in implementing the Komering culture local content curriculum were based on the vision and goal of the local government, which conveyed regional culture and taught students more about Komering culture. Teachers back them as curriculum implementers for commercial, and cultural content in their own communities, and principals recognise them as leaders.

Abstract

Based on statistical data from the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2018, the dropout rate in South Sumatra Province was very high. Especially for the Palembang City area, there were about 17% of the cases of children dropping out of school in South Sumatra until 2018. The large number of children who have dropped out of school and who were not in school cause exploited children to be still often found on the streets, joining their parents to earn a living and even vulnerable to being involved in various juvenile delinquency and other criminal acts. Based on this fact, the Palembang City Government (Pemkot) in 2019, through the Palembang City Education Office, then developed a program to eradicate school dropouts and street children called the "The Service Program Of You May Not Stop From School" (Poltabes). This program is followed up with education at a distance school (Filial) for street children and school dropouts in Palembang Learning Activity Center. The method used was qualitative research. The research was conducted at a filial school for street children and dropouts in Palembang city. Data collection in the study was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study consisted of one tutor each, a companion teacher, a party from the Education Office, and students. The study found that the fulfillment of the right to education for street children and dropouts through the Filial school program at Palembang Learning Activity Center has been going well. Until the end of the 2020/2021 academic year, the implementation of this filial school program has had an impact, including: 1) 7 elementary school students, 42 junior high school students, and 44 high school students, with a total of 93 students have completed formal education; 2) street children or dropouts who attend filial school education show a change in behavior and actions in a positive direction, both in attitude and appearance; 3) a decrease in the dropout rate in the city of Palembang, which was initially 1,278 cases reduced to 491 cases; 4) support the increase in the average length of schooling which was initially 10.37% to 10.52%; 5) support the increase in the human development index from 77.89% to 78.44%; 6) This Poltabes innovation is in line with and contributes to the achievement of The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the education sector.

Abstract

Language and culture cannot be separated. Cultural integration in ELT now becomes the focus of many researchers and trends in recent years. Unfortunately, so far, there has been no in-depth investigation that focused on Indonesian teachers' perceptions of local and foreign cultural presentations in high school English textbooks. To fill the gap, this study aims to investigate the teachers' perception of the benefits and weaknesses of local and foreign cultural representation (LCFR) in the ELT textbook they used. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The nine senior high school teachers representing the city, district, and province in South Sumatra, Indonesia, were purposely involved as the participant in this study. A semi-structured interview supporting documentation was conducted and analysed following the interactive model of data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman. Based on the findings, there are three main benefits of LCFR in ELT textbooks; first, LFCR helps teachers stimulate or catch students’ attention at the beginning of the teaching process. Second, it improves students’ intercultural knowledge, be aware of a different cultures from other countries, and avoids culture shock. Next, it also increases students’ curiosity and critical thinking, making the learning process more active and meaningful. Moreover, the weaknesses are dealing with the imbalanced portion of cultural representation and inadequate information on cross-cultural understanding which cause misunderstanding and confusion for the students.
