Abstract

Timely and accurate medication use is a critical factor in the success of treatment, especially for patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. However, patient non-adherence remains a major challenge. Based on observations at Panglayungan Community Health Center (Puskesmas), Tasikmalaya City, data recording and visit reminders are still handled manually. This often leads to service delays, data errors, and high rates of patient absenteeism. To address these issues, this study designed and developed a WhatsApp-based medication reminder information system capable of sending automated notifications to patients according to schedules set by healthcare staff. The application includes features such as patient data management, visit scheduling, and automated message delivery via the WhatsApp API. The system was developed using the waterfall software engineering model, starting from requirements analysis, system design, implementation, and testing. Test results demonstrated that the system successfully delivered medication reminders on time and effectively reached patients. Moreover, integrating WhatsApp as a reminder medium proved to be user-friendly and widely accepted, as it does not require users to install additional applications. This system not only improves patient adherence to prescribed therapies but also assists healthcare providers in data management and patient monitoring more efficiently. Furthermore, the system was designed with a lightweight, responsive web-based interface to ensure ease of use for health center staff. With a structured database, it helps reduce administrative workload and minimizes the risk of data loss.

Abstract

Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is one of the most common nosocomial infections in ICU patients and has the potential to increase morbidity, mortality, and cost of care. Nurses' compliance with VAP prevention protocols is greatly influenced by their knowledge of ventilators and related nursing practices. This study aims to analyze the relationship between nurses' knowledge of ventilators and their compliance in VAP prevention in the ICU. This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 60 ICU nurses selected purposively in three hospitals in city X. Data were collected using a ventilator knowledge questionnaire and VAP prevention compliance observation. Data analysis used the Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between knowledge and compliance. The results showed a significant positive relationship between nurses' knowledge level about ventilators and compliance in VAP prevention (r = 0.58; p < 0.01). In conclusion, increasing nurses' knowledge regarding ventilators has an effect on improving VAP prevention compliance. It is recommended that hospitals regularly conduct training and education for ICU nurses to improve nosocomial infection prevention practices.

Abstract

The growing demand for alternative fuels has highlighted biodiesel as sustainable substitute for fossil diesel. In this study, biodiesel was produced from sunflower seed oil using heterogeneous catalyst synthesized from natural kaolin into sodalite via hydrothermal process. The synthesized catalyst was characterized using XRD, FTIR and SEM-EDS, confirming the transformation of kaolinite to sodalite. The transesterification reaction was conducted under varying methanol-to-oil molar ratios (1:12, 1:18, and 1:24) and temperatures (60, 65, and 70°C). A Taguchi orthogonal array (L9) was employed to statistically evaluate the effects of these parameters on methyl ester yield. Experimental results showed that both methanol ratio and reaction temperature significantly influenced biodiesel yield, with the highest yield of 90.44% obtained at 70°C and 1:18 molar ratio. Signal-to-noise ratio and ANOVA analysis indicated that the methanol-to-oil ratio was the most dominant factor (46.05%) compared to temperature (40.55%). The resulting biodiesel exhibited a flash point of 158°C, acid value of 0.06 mg-KOH/g, and iodine value of 84.06 g-I₂/100g, satisfying most ASTM D6751 and SNI 7182:2015 standards, though viscosity and density exceeded standard limits. Emission testing showed 16% reduction in CO emissions with increasing biodiesel blends, while NO and NOx emissions slightly increased.

Abstract

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease and a major cause of poor public health in many countries. It remains the leading infectious killer worldwide, with approximately 10 million people affected in 2018. The treatment of pulmonary TB generally lasts for six to nine months and consists of two phases—an initial intensive phase and a continuation phase. Interviews with 10 TB patients revealed that some experienced the desire to discontinue treatment due to a lack of self-motivation to recover. Efforts to control the high prevalence of pulmonary TB must focus on improving patient adherence to anti-tuberculosis therapy. Objective: To determine the relationship between motivation and adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication among TB patients attending the DOTS Clinic at Dr. Soedarso General Hospital, Pontianak. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design using a purposive sampling technique. The total sample consisted of 45 respondents. Results: Most respondents were aged 17–25 years (44.4%), female (46.7%), had completed senior high school (44.4%), were unemployed (57.8%), and had a TB history of ≥5 years (91.1%). More than half of the respondents demonstrated good motivation toward anti-tuberculosis medication (53.3%), and the majority were adherent to their treatment (84.4%). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between patient motivation and adherence to anti-tuberculosis medication.
