Abstract

The waste problem in Indonesia is an unfinished problem. The growing population increases the amount of waste originating from human activities, both organic and inorganic waste. Inorganic waste such as plastic waste is difficult to decompose naturally, so research is needed on the use of plastic waste to make environmentally friendly paving blocks. The aim of this research is to know the compressive strength and the percentage of water absorption value. Using experimental data collection techniques or methods (testing/observation). By testing intact paving blocks and cubes, the results showed that PET plastic types did not meet the testing standards for DHPE and PP plastic types, which had varying compressive strength and water absorption, so that research could be continued. The highest compressive strength of the PP plastic type was 16.98 Mpa for the intact model and 23.30 Mpa for the cube model, the lowest water absorption capacity was obtained for the PP plastic type of 0.38%.

Abstract

One of the benefits of advancing technology is its ability to serve as a medium for entertainment. The online game Mobile Legends has gained widespread popularity and attracts a broad audience, including university students. While playing Mobile Legends can offer cognitive stimulation, enjoyment, and entertainment, it can also lead to excessive addiction, which may negatively affect users’ mental health. This study applies a fuzzy logic approach, which processes input data through fuzzy rules involving fuzzification, fuzzy inference, and defuzzification. Three input variables are used: Playing Time, Emotional Level, and Stress Level, with a single output variable: Health Index, which reflects the user's mental health condition. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of the Mobile Legends online game on users’ mental health using fuzzy logic implemented in MATLAB. Based on the results, the manual Mamdani fuzzy analysis yielded a defuzzification result of 44.75. Meanwhile, using MATLAB Fuzzy Mamdani Toolbox (version 2023b) with input values of Playing Time (69), Emotional Level (68), and Stress Level (65) produced an output of 52.7. Both results fall within the fuzzy domain of “Agree” [40, 60, 80], indicating that prolonged playing time of Mobile Legends can influence players’ mental health.

Abstract

Nickel is one of the metals needed by humans. In general, nickel can be formed primarily or secondarily, known as nickel laterite. Nickel deposits in Indonesia are only found in the form of nickel laterite. The parent rock of nickel laterite deposits is ultrabasic rock, especially from the types of harzburgite, dunite, and other peridotites. The data collection technique used is to take data related to the research, both primary and secondary data. Primary data includes outcrop data (megascopic description) at the research location, exploration drill data to determine the thickness of the nickel laterite layer and the content of its elements and rock sample data for petrographic thin section analysis. Sampling was carried out in block A. While secondary data includes data on the general condition of the company, and a map of the research location. 1. The original rock analyzed petrographically is serpentinezed harzburgite. The minerals contained are orthopyroxene, olivine, clinopyroxene, and opaque minerals. The weathering level of the nickel laterite profile in the limonite zone is higher than the saprolite zone because in the saprolite zone most of the rocks are small in size and the original rocks affect the nickel laterite profile that is formed, but are still supported by other factors, namely topography, climate, geological structure, vegetation and time.

Abstract

Macronutrient content of post-exercise meal is a fundamental for achieving optimal recovery following exercise training. This study aimed to analyze the effects of a high-fat meal consumed after training on blood glucose and pressure levels in young male soccer athletes. Furthermore, examining the relationship among body composition variables was a secondary objective. A pre-post intervention study was conducted with 34 male soccer athletes (age: 16 ± 0.8 years). Participants consumed a high-fat meal (-45% of total intake 1061 kcal) immediately after strenuous training. Blood samples were collected at baseline, immediately post-training, and 1 h post-training to assess trends in blood glucose and pressure levels. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) was used to measure participant characteristics. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way repeated measures ANOVA followed by post hoc Bonferroni tests to determine significant differences between groups. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationships among the body composition variables. The average skeletal muscle mass and body fat percentage were approximately 59% and 24.6%, respectively. Glucose levels remained unchanged immediately after training but increased significantly by ~17% (p < 0.001) 1 h later. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) decreased by ~5% (p = 0.03) at 1 h post-training, while diastolic blood pressure (DBP) exhibited minimal change (p = 0.06). A correlation analysis indicated an inverse relationship between body mass and skeletal muscle mass, contrasting with the linear relationship between body mass and body fat. The results suggest that a high-fat meal consumed after exercise may lead to an increase in glucose levels 1 h post-exercise. The slight reduction in SBP observed 1 h post-training may represent a normal physiological response to exercise. Since the current study did not have the exercise-only group, further research is needed to confirm whether the change of the blood glucose levels was mainly from the diet.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of weekly structured speaking routines (WSR) on the improvement of students' oral communication skills in an English language learning context. The primary aim was to assess whether these routines could enhance students' speaking fluency, confidence, and reduce speaking anxiety. A quasi-experimental design was employed, with pre-test and post-test assessments used to measure speaking proficiency before and after the intervention. Observational notes and surveys were also collected to provide qualitative insights into the students' experiences. The results indicated that weekly speaking routines significantly increased students' confidence in speaking English, with notable reductions in anxiety. Students reported enjoying the speaking activities, which encouraged active participation and peer interactions, fostering a more collaborative and supportive learning environment. However, while fluency improvements were acknowledged, the progress was less pronounced, indicating the need for additional fluency-focused interventions. The study found that structured speaking tasks helped students engage in discussions, express opinions, and use more complex language structures. This research contributes to the field by highlighting the importance of consistent, routine-based speaking practices in second language acquisition. It provides valuable insights for educators seeking to improve oral communication skills through structured speaking routines. Future research could focus on refining these routines to address specific challenges in fluency development and investigate long-term impacts on students’ language proficiency.
