Abstract

This paper proposed the development of rotary fatigue test equipment. This equipment was used to test the JIS S45C steel, validated using the Joseph Marin approach. Analyzing the fatigue strength of JIS S45C steel using the Joseph Marin approach was compared to experimental testing. The dimension of the test specimens was based on the ASTM E 466. The test data was displayed in the form of an S-N curve. The test results showed the fatigue strength of JIS S45C steel on the whole that was close to each other, experimentally and using the Joseph Marin approach. In the infinite life region, it is known that the fatigue strength based on the Joseph Marin approach was lower than experimental tests. Therefore, if JIS S45C steel had received a hefty load repeatedly, it would fail more quickly.

Abstract

Mini purse seine boats in Rembang are divided into two sizes. The first one, namely mini purse seines measuring 10 - 20 Goss Tonnage (GT) (short trips) with a fishing operation duration of 3 - 7 days. The second one is mini purse seines measuring 21 - 30 GT (long trips) with a fishing operation duration of 7 - 10 days. The dominant catch on this boats is round scad, which used a cooling mechanism with ice blocks and bulking systems. This research evaluates the quality of round scad caught by mini purse seine boats (based on Indonesian National Standard/SNI 2729: 2013) and the quality of ice used in handling the fish (based on SNI 4872: 2015). The sampling technique was purposive sampling. Fish samples were carried out in the first and last hold on the short trips and long trips boats, where each handle of the fish was sampled in the upper, middle, and lower layers. Data analysis for sensory evaluation were analyzed by Kruskal Wallis statistics, while the TPC value of round scad was tested by ANOVA test. The laboratory test results obtained the sensory assessment of round scad. The value of the TPC round scad and the E. coli ice blocks are still within the limits of the Indonesian national standards, but the TPC scale of the ice block exceeds the standard limit of SNI. The Kruskal Wallis statistics results showed tha the difference in fish hold, the difference in the trip, and differences in fish hold layers had a significant effect on the sensory of scad. ANOVA test showed that differences in the fish hold and trip differences had a significant impact on the TPC of scad. In contrast, the difference in fish hold layers gave a non-significant effect on the TPC of round scad. Keywords:Quality organolepticTPcRound scadMini purse seineRembang

Abstract

Physical modelling for tsunami engineering is rather difficult to conduct due to lack of comprehensive and advanced facilities to do so. Large number of simulations of the tsunami impacts were performed numerically. In early 2023, a new advanced tsunami flume facility has been completed at Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala. This flume has 60 m in length, 2.5 m in width, and 1.7 m in height. The flume is also equipped with a number of wave, pressure, and current sensors, Particle Image Velocimetery (PIV) Camera, and a laser bed profiler. Beside of the tsunami generator, this flume is also capable to generate wind-driven waves (with two large wind turbines), regular and irregular waves, and currents. The flume provides new opportunities as well as challenges for tsunami scientists and engineers in Indonesia to collaborate and to perform novel researches in tsunami mitigation. This article is aimed at elucidating technical challenges and opportunities in performing tsunami physical models with the large tsunami flume. we performed a series numerical models using DualSPHysic. The results show that composite beach slopes inside the flume has succesfully mimic shallow coast effects that later deformed the incoming tsunami waves into breaking, bores, and runup. Challenges were identified in absorbing tsunami waves with more than one incoming wave to the observation area. In the future, this facility will be accessible for scientists and engineers to collaborate in tsunami science and engineering researches.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the allergy hyperplasma pathologic antibody and to evaluate the immunogenic characteristics. Blood and serum were collected from human suffering rhinitis, skin, eye and asthma allergies. To obtain a cloned allergen plasma protein (protein allergen that had been induced with the serum from human with allergic rhinitis, skin, eye and asthma), the goat was used as an intermediate animal. Hematological analysis showed that the leukocyte cell such as neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, and eosinophil increase in allergic-suffered human. The blood smear test exhibited that the mastocyte cell was dominant which contributes to allergy activities in human body. The sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylimide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) assay detected protein allergens with molecular weight of 188 kDa (IgE) and 60-62 kDa (mastocyte cell). The reactivity assay using enzyme linked immunosorbent-assay (ELISA) revealed that cloned-allergens (whole hyperplasma allergen from goat isolates) express the best reactivity at various concentrations of IgE than the leukocyte cells. This research concluded that the clones of protein allergen have better immunogenic characteristic and those proteins can be recommended as the candidate of allergen to induce the humoral immunity on host and deliver specific product of anti-allergy such as milk.

Abstract

The research aims to evaluate the pollution of Pb and Zn in water, sediment, and Faunus ater samples collected from Krueng Balee (KB) and Kreung Reuleung (KR) Rivers, Aceh, Indonesia. The samples were collected at the upstream, midstream, and downstream of each river and analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The distribution of Pb and Zn pollution was analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Our investigation revealed that the presence of Pb and Zn is still safe for water and sediment samples. Nevertheless, Pb and Zn contamination found in F. ater samples had exceeded the national safety limit for food. PCA analysis revealed correlations between samples suggesting the roles of physical and chemical properties of the river in the pollutant retainment. The analysis also indicated the possible antagonism between Pb and Zn accumulation in F. ater which has never been reported previously. We suggest routine monitoring of Pb and Zn concentrations. The role of the surrounding industry in the Pb and Zn pollution should be further studied.
