Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the efforts of students to overcome obstacles faced in memorizing the Qur'an, analyze teacher strategies in teaching and explore the role of supporters in improving students' memorization of the Qur'an at the Assalaam Modern Islamic Boarding School in Sukoharjo. The researcher used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data sources in this study were several ustadz and ustadzah, as well as several students from the tahfidz program. The study results showed that each student had a different way of memorizing, depending on the method that suited their abilities. The efforts of students to overcome obstacles in memorizing include having a firm and sincere intention, being diligent and patient, istiqomah, having one mushaf to strengthen memorization, tahsin Qur'an, and having a healthy body and mind. The strategies tahfidz teachers apply include tahsin, tahfidz, tasmi', and muraja'ah. A comfortable environment, high motivation, and adequate support facilities influence success in memorizing. There are various inhibiting factors: the influence of outside activities from non-tahfidz students, difficulty dividing time, and lack of concentration. This study is expected to provide valuable insights into improving the effectiveness of teaching Qur'an memorization in Islamic educational institutions. The study results can be used by Islamic boarding school managers to design more effective teaching strategies in the process of memorizing the Qur'an by considering the needs and characteristics of each student. In addition, the importance of motivational support and a conducive learning environment can be a concern for Islamic boarding school administrators to create an atmosphere that supports the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Islamic Education learning with project-based learning methods and identify obstacles and solutions faced in learning. The research approach used is qualitative with a phenomenological type. Data were collected through interviews, non-participatory observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique in this study follows the steps of Data Reduction, Data Presentation, and Conclusion Drawing. The study results indicate that implementing Islamic Education learning with the project-based learning method is carried out in stages based on the principles of project-based learning, determining the main questions, project planning, making an implementation schedule, creating projects, and evaluating the results. This learning emphasizes students' active involvement in completing projects relevant to the learning material to create a pleasant learning atmosphere and increase motivation, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Some obstacles to implementing the project-based learning method are immature planning, time constraints, and difficulties in managing groups of students. To overcome these obstacles, cooperation is needed from all parties, both teachers, students, and schools. Teachers, as facilitators, can provide appropriate direction for students regarding project planning, condition learning effectively, and create a supportive learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of digital technology integration in the Islamic Religious Education learning process at the junior high school level. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through structured interviews with two Islamic Religious Education teachers and six students in grades VII–IX, passive participant observation, and learning documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Data validity was strengthened through the use of triangulation techniques. The results show that digital technology integration is implemented systematically from the planning stage to the evaluation of learning. The learning process utilises various digital platforms, including Microsoft Word for assignment management, Google Classroom as a learning management system, e-modules or digital books as learning resources, and evaluative and interactive applications such as Wayground or Quizizz, Google Forms, and Computer-Based Test (CBT). The process of integrating technology and appropriate pedagogical strategies improves the quality of Islamic religious education. The technology-integrated learning has received a positive response from students. This is evident in their enthusiasm, active involvement, and ease in understanding the learning material. However, the implementation of digital technology integration still faces several obstacles, including teachers' limited time in developing digital learning content and students' misuse of technology during the learning process. Theoretically, this research contributes to strengthening the understanding of the practice of integrating digital technology into Islamic Religious Education learning in the junior high school context. Practically, the findings imply the need for more structured digital content planning and effective digital classroom management to ensure that technology utilisation aligns with learning objectives.

Abstract

Pesantren as traditional Islamic educational institutions face challenges in building an institutional identity in the era of globalisation, especially for newer pesantren that lack social legitimacy, a track record, and a strong organisational culture. This situation demands strategic and adaptive leadership from principals in managing institutional transformation and building public trust. This study aims to analyse the principal's strategies and leadership styles in building the identity of the Muharrikun Najaah Islamic Boarding School in Klaten Regency and identify the obstacles encountered. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The study draws primary data from the principal and senior teachers and secondary data from internal institutional documents. It collects data through semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and non-participant observation. The researchers conducted the data analysis using thematic and inductive approaches and validated the findings through triangulation of sources and methods. The results indicate that identity construction is carried out multidimensionally through four main strategies: structural through the integration of formal education (MTs and MA) for legitimacy; practice-based through flagship programs such as PMPT (persiapan masuk perguruan tinggi) and development of student talents (lingkaran sore); humanistic through teacher empowerment within a distributed leadership framework; and cultural through the internalisation of Islamic values, discipline, and character. The leadership style applied is semi-authoritative, with a top-down approach that maintains limited participation and emphasises role modelling. Barriers include resistance to change, change fatigue, human resource dynamics, the complexity of system integration, and external pressures. These findings have implications for strengthening adaptive leadership in building a sustainable Islamic boarding school identity.

Abstract

This study aims to identify forms of Islamic activities that support the development of student self-regulation at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. Self-regulation is an individual’s ability to manage behavior, emotions, and thoughts to achieve specific goals; in an educational context, it is crucial for fostering discipline, responsibility, and independent learning among students. This study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological perspective, in which phenomena related to self-regulation are explored through various Islamic activities carried out by students in their daily lives at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the development of students’ self-regulation is fostered through various religious practices and Islamic habits, such as Dhuha prayer, Quran recitation, morning dhikr, as well as character development through teachers’ exemplary behavior and regular religious programs. Additionally, students’ involvement in Muhammadiyah-specific activities such as Hizbul Wathan (HW), Tapak Suci, and the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IPM) also significantly contributes to fostering values of discipline, responsibility, solidarity, and leadership. These activities foster self-awareness, emotional control, and internal motivation in students.
