Abstract

Drainage is one of the most critical components to be maintained and developed in a strategically healthy and comfortable urban environment. There are often puddles of water on Budi Karya Street, especially at the Permai Reservoir Complex. In solving the existing inundation problem, primary and secondary data are needed. Primary data is in the form of longitudinal and transverse sections of the channel, while secondary data is in the form of location maps, tidal data, and rainfall data used to analyze hydrology. Based on the analysis of the capacity of Budi Karya's drainage channel using  HEC  -RAS software as a drainage channel flow modeling tool to view the water level profile along the channel, channel perspective drawing, or hydrograph, it was found that the Budi Karya drainage channel could not accommodate the planned discharge for return periods 2 and 5 Year. Therefore, it is necessary to improve drainage in the form of the normalization of drainage channels.

Abstract

The Landak sub-River Basin is part of the Kapuas River Basin which is drained by the Landak River with an area of approximately 7,921 km2. Flooding in the Landak sub-River Basin occurs every year with the number of cases tending to increase. Flooding in the Landak sub-River Basin inundates about 20 villages, which means that flood-prone areas dominate. The causes of flooding in the Landak sub-River Basin are very complex, basically caused by natural and non-natural factors. Specifically, there are many problems in the Landak sub-River Basin that are thought to trigger flooding such as land use change, decreasing catchment areas, blockages in small rivers, and so on. To identify strategic issues regarding flooding in the Landak sub-River Basin, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted which was attended by several resource persons who were credible with the subject matter and an AHP analysis was conducted first to determine the priority scale of flood management in the Landak sub-River Basin. The result of determining the priority scale of flood management in the Landak sub-River Basin is the strengthening and implementation of regulations. The resulting strategic issues were subjected to a questionnaire that was assessed by the respondents involved during the FGD. The results obtained from this series of SWOT analyses are the formulation of strategies that are most suitable for the strategic issues of flooding in the Landak sub-River Basin using QSPM analysis, along with the determination of short-term, medium-term and long-term strategies using SFAS analysis.

Abstract

The community of Bonti Village relies on groundwater as the primary source of clean water since the local Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) ceased operations. However, the quality of the groundwater often raises health concerns, particularly in cases of diarrhea during the dry season. This study aims to design and evaluate the performance of a simple tray aerator as an alternative technology for groundwater treatment to meet the quality standards set by the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 2 of 2023 on Mandatory Drinking Water Quality Parameters. The design consists of four tray levels and one storage container, with a spacing of 0,4 m between trays and a container height of 0,3 m. Each tray measures 0,42 m in length and 0,30 m in width, equipped with 88 holes of 0,005 m diameter and a spacing of 0,03 m between holes. The total hole area was recorded at 0,001727 m ², with a surface loading rate of 6,6665 m ²/m ³/s and a detention time of 1,16 seconds. The filtration media used include charcoal (2 cm), shell sand (2 cm), gravel (1,5 cm), and coconut fiber (1,5 cm). The groundwater quality tests from three bore wells indicated a significant reduction in metal concentrations and improvements in both physical and chemical parameters, with all parameters meeting the required quality standards. Therefore, the simple tray aerator is proven to be effective as an appropriate technology solution for the provision of clean water in rural areas.

Abstract

Flooding can occur because the volume of water flowing in a river exceeds its drainage capacity. The high rainfall intensity can cause the Sekayam River to overflow in Sanggau Regency. A maximum of 1 (one) day of rainfall data from observation stations is needed for flood control and management. However, some observation stations still need complete 1 (one) day maximum rainfall data. One alternative that can be used to obtain rainfall data is to utilize the TRMM satellite. However, the data generated by the TRMM satellite cannot be fully utilized due to interference with infrared and microwave radiation in the atmosphere. It is necessary to make corrections first before rainfall data is used. Correction is done using the correction equation obtained through the test results.    Testing begins with quality testing of observation station rainfall data by conducting homogeneity testing using the data analysis tool with the t-test method: two samples assuming equal variances in MS. Excel and consistency testing using the Worsley Likelihood Ratio Test method. Then, the TRMM satellite rainfall data is filtered by looking at the correlation coefficient results with the condition ≥ 0.5 against the observation station data, which has homogeneous and consistent data properties. TRMM rainfall data that passes will go through the calibration and validation stages. The correction equation obtained during the calibration stage and produces the most significant correlation coefficient in the validation stage will be used to correct TRMM satellite rainfall data so that TRMM satellite rainfall data will be obtained after correction. Data after correction will be tested again with data before correction to see the data quality by looking at the results of RMSE and relative bias. The homogeneity and consistency test of observation stations states that all observation stations have homogeneous and consistent results. TRMM rainfall data that passes the data filtering stage is 21 Grids. TRMM rainfall data with a correction equation with the highest correlation coefficient results is on Grid 27 with the correction equation Y = 0.976 x - 10.685 and a correlation coefficient of 0.737. The correction equation is used to correct rainfall data on 21 Grids that have passed the data filtering stage. The results of RMSE and relative bias in TRMM rainfall data after correction using the correction equation Y = 0.976 x - 10.685 show tiny and satisfactory results in interpretation so that the correction equation can be utilized as a correction of TRMM rainfall data in the Sekayam Watershed.

Abstract

This article analyzes the flood hazard level in the Kapuas Hulu Sub-watershed using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The flood risk in this region is influenced by various factors such as soil types, land cover, elevation, slope, rainfall, and human activities. Ultisol (64.44%) significantly contributes to flood risk due to its low water permeability, leading to surface runoff during heavy rain. Inceptisol (31.73%) also plays a role in flood dynamics, with its water retention capacity dependent on vegetation. Smaller areas of Histosol (0.50%) and Spodosol (0.07%) pose localized flooding risks in lowland regions. The dominant land cover, primarily dryland forest, helps mitigate flooding, while settlements and agricultural zones increase vulnerability by reducing water absorption. Low-lying areas (50-100 meters) and steep slopes (25-45%) further exacerbate flood potential"”areas receiving moderate to high rainfall increase surface runoff and flood risk. GIS-based analysis categorizes flood vulnerability into low, medium, and high levels, with 57.71% of the area classified as low vulnerability. Recommendations for flood risk mitigation include soil conservation, reforestation, sustainable land management, and drainage system improvements in vulnerable areas.

Abstract

Flooding is a condition where water is not accommodated or the flow of water is obstructed in the sewer, so that it overflows to inundate the surrounding area. The area around the ditch on Purnama Street (the estuary of the Kapuas River) is affected by tides and the intensity and duration of rainfall. This study aims to simulate the flood model that occurred in the Purnama Street area. Data analysis was carried out using HEC-RAS software as a tool for modeling drainage flow. The research was conducted during no rain conditions, 5 and 10 year return periods of rain and the highest and lowest tidal conditions. The flood model simulations were carried out from Demang Ditch to the Lower Kapuas River. The results of the modeling using HEC-RAS show that the drainage channel from the Kapuas River to Purnama Street does not experience inundation/flooding, but in the area of Purnama Street to Demang Ditch during the 5 and 10 year return period rains and the highest tides experience inundation/flooding. which reaches the highway.

Abstract

Kecamatan Selakau has a considerable risk of flooding, which occurs every year. Because it has a low topography, its location on the coast is undoubtedly greatly influenced by tides and is prone to tidal flooding. In an effort to anticipate and reduce the duration and frequency of rain by arranging the drainage system through technical study activities on drainage channels, especially on the Nyirih River drainage channel, which empties directly into the Selakau River. This research aims to examine the effect of the Selakau River's tides on the Nyirih River's drainage flow and the combination of tides and rainfall on the incidence of flooding in the Nyirih River channel. The research methodology used is the descriptive method. Hydrological analysis using the maximum daily rainfall data from Tebas Station. Then the Nyirih River water level tidal readings and the design discharge data are used in the hydrodynamic model analysis.Based on the analysis results using the HEC-RAS Version 6.1.0 software, the water level elevation from sta is at the highest tide conditions without rain. 0+000 to sta. 1 + 466,682 has exceeded the elevation of the existing channel cross-section so that it experiences inundation with a height of 0.02 m"“0.4 m, and at sta. 1 + 694,439 to sta. 2 + 073.878, the water level is still below the existing cross-sectional elevation of the channel, so no inundation occurs. It shows that there is no effect or increase in water level elevation that occurs for the highest tide combination conditions with rainfall return periods of 2, 5, 10, and 20 years, and it is the same as the highest tide conditions without rain, which experience inundation with a height of 0.02 m-0.4 m. Normalization is inefficient and unsuccessful in decreasing floods since sea tides extensively impact the Nyirih along the river channel.

Abstract

This literature review delves into the impact of regular physical activity on lipid profiles and cardiovascular health in adolescents, addressing the growing concern of sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy habits contributing to increased cardiovascular disease risks among teenagers. By systematically searching academic databases and scientific journals using relevant keywords, a selection of 8 articles was chosen for review after rigorous screening and eligibility assessment. The findings of the review underscore the significant relationship between physical activity, metabolic parameters, and cardiovascular risk factors in adolescents. Studies consistently highlight the benefits of regular physical activity in improving lipid profiles, insulin sensitivity, and overall cardiovascular parameters in this population. For instance, adolescents engaging in moderate to high-intensity physical activity demonstrated reduced risks of metabolic syndrome and improved insulin sensitivity. Lifestyle modifications encompassing increased physical activity and dietary changes were associated with positive alterations in lipid and glycemic profiles, particularly in high-risk pediatric individuals. Notably, regular vigorous-intensity physical activity was found to yield favorable cardiometabolic outcomes in adolescents with type 2 diabetes. In conclusion, the review emphasizes the critical role of regular physical activity in maintaining cardiovascular health and managing metabolic risk factors among adolescents. Participation in physical activity, particularly at moderate to high intensity, holds promise for significant improvements in lipid profiles and cardiovascular parameters. These findings underscore the importance of promoting active lifestyles among teenagers to prevent cardiovascular disease and enhance overall health outcomes.
