Abstract

The Mepe Kasur tradition of the Osing community in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi, is more than a cultural ritual before Eid al-Adha; it embodies values of tolerance, harmony, and economic empowerment. The symbolic red-black (abang-cemeng) mattresses reflect protection from misfortune and household unity, while the collective practice of airing mattresses and the Tumpeng Sewu ritual strengthen social cohesion across generations. Beyond its spiritual meaning, Mepe Kasur has become a cultural attraction that contributes to the local economy through tourism, homestays, culinary experiences, and creative industries. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and literature review. The findings reveal that the Mepe Kasur tradition serves two main functions: first, as a means of cultural preservation that safeguards the identity and spiritual values of the Osing community; and second, as an effective social instrument for strengthening interfaith tolerance and promoting community-based economic growth. This tradition fosters social interaction across religions and generations while creating economic opportunities through tourism activities and local cultural products. Thus, Mepe Kasur not only sustains social harmony but also acts as a driving force for a sustainable culture-based economy within the Osing community.

Abstract

Orientalist scholarship on the Qur’an has significantly shaped global academic and socio-religious discourse through its epistemic assumptions, theological frameworks, and comparative methodologies. This article investigates dominant epistemic motives underlying orientalist approaches to the Qur’an and analyzes how such motives operate within broader knowledge–power relations. Employing qualitative library research and content analysis within a sociology of knowledge framework, this study examines key orientalist works and maps their recurring argumentative structures. The findings reveal three central epistemic tendencies: (1) delegitimizing the Qur’an as divine revelation, (2) constructing negative assessments of the Prophet Muhammad, and (3) positioning the Qur’an as a derivative text of Jewish–Christian traditions. These discursive tendencies are embedded within Western theological, historical, and colonial contexts that privilege Judeo-Christian epistemic norms as benchmarks for evaluating Islamic revelation. The article further highlights contemporary Muslim scholarly responses—particularly within the Asia–Pacific region—that challenge orientalist paradigms through postcolonial critique, interdisciplinary hermeneutics, and socio-religious renewal in Islamic higher education. This study contributes to ongoing debates on religion and society by framing orientalist Qur’anic studies not merely as textual critique, but as socio-epistemic discourse with implications for Muslim identity, scholarship, and interreligious relations in the Asia–Pacific context.

Abstract

This study examines the specific challenges Indonesian EFL students encounter when constructing Passive Voice sentences, an area where structural differences between Indonesian and English often lead to systematic errors. The research focuses on identifying the most difficult tense in passive transformation, analyzing dominant error types, and explaining the linguistic factors underlying these errors. Using a descriptive quantitative design, data were collected from 35 students of the English Education Program at IAIN Parepare through a grammar test and a diagnostic questionnaire. The results show that the Simple Past Tense presented the greatest difficulty, indicating learners’ challenges in applying tense markers absent in Indonesian. Misordering emerged as the most frequent error type (57.81%), reflecting limited syntactic awareness and confusion in determining subject-object positions during active-to-passive transformation. Other error types included Selection, Omission, and Addition, each revealing gaps in students’ understanding of participle formation, auxiliary verb usage, and sentence structure. These patterns suggest that L1 interference and insufficient mastery of morphological forms significantly affect learners’ accuracy. The study underscores the need for targeted instructional support, particularly explicit tense-focused instruction and guided practice in sentence transformation. Strengthening learners’ syntactic awareness and verb-form recognition is essential for improving their proficiency in constructing Passive Voice structures

Abstract

Abstrak - Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) memiliki peran penting dalam berbagai aplikasi modern seperti pemantauan lingkungan, pertanian presisi, dan smart city. Namun, keterbatasan energi node sensor dan kompleksitas komunikasi multihop menjadikan perancangan protokol routing yang efisien sebagai tantangan utama. Penelitian ini menganalisis kinerja algoritma Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) dalam optimasi routing WSN berdasarkan tiga metrik utama: jumlah paket, konsumsi energi, dan throughput. Simulasi dilakukan dengan 100 node yang tersebar acak pada area 100 × 100-meter dengan komunikasi berbasis cluster multihop. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi Node→CH memiliki kinerja paling stabil, dengan jumlah paket berkisar antara 85–97 per ronde dan konsumsi energi relatif rendah pada kisaran 2.0–2.8 × 10⁻⁴ J. Sebaliknya, komunikasi CH→CH menunjukkan fluktuasi tajam, dengan beberapa ronde mencapai nol paket maupun nol konsumsi energi. Jalur CH→BS merupakan yang paling boros energi (2.5–3.5 × 10⁻⁴ J) dan throughput tidak konsisten, meskipun pada ronde tertentu mampu mencapai puncak hingga 3.6 × 10⁴ bit. Temuan ini memperkuat literatur bahwa komunikasi intra-cluster lebih efisien, sementara jalur antar-CH dan CH→BS memerlukan pengembangan tambahan. Secara keseluruhan, ACO terbukti efektif dalam menjaga komunikasi intra-cluster, tetapi masih memerlukan perbaikan untuk komunikasi jarak menengah dan jarak jauh. Integrasi heuristik energi residual, multipath routing, atau hibridisasi metaheuristik menjadi rekomendasi untuk penelitian selanjutnya.Kata kunci: Wireless Sensor Networks; Routing; Ant Colony Optimization; EnergyConsumption; Throughput;  Abstract - Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) play a vital role in various modern applications such as environmental monitoring, precision agriculture, and smart cities. However, the limited energy of sensor nodes and the complexity of multihop communication make the design of efficient routing protocols a major challenge. This study analyzes the performance of the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm in optimizing WSN routing based on three key metrics: packet delivery, energy consumption, and throughput. Simulations were carried out with 100 nodes randomly distributed within a 100 × 100-meter area using cluster-based multihop communication. The results indicate that Node→CH communication achieved the most stable performance, with packet delivery ranging from 85 to 97 per round and relatively low energy consumption between 2.0–2.8 × 10⁻⁴ J. In contrast, CH→CH communication exhibited sharp fluctuations, with several rounds dropping to zero packets and zero energy consumption. The CH→BS path was the most energy-consuming (2.5–3.5 × 10⁻⁴ J) and demonstrated inconsistent throughput, although in certain rounds it reached a peak of 3.6 × 10⁴ bits. These findings reinforce existing literature that intra-cluster communication is more efficient, while CH→CH and CH→BS links require further optimization. Overall, ACO has proven effective in maintaining intra-cluster communication, but improvements are still needed for medium- and long-range communication. Future research should consider integrating residual energy heuristics, multipath routing, or metaheuristic hybridization to enhance routing stability and prolong network lifetime.Keywords: Wireless Sensor Networks; Routing; Ant Colony Optimization; Energy Consumption; Throughput;

Abstract

Background: Climate change has presented a serious challenge to traditional concepts of state sovereignty in international law, particularly in the context of establishing baseline as the basis for measuring maritime boundaries. Sea level rise that causes the sinking of small islands and the shift of coastline has the potential to change the delimitation of a country's maritime area, thereby creating uncertainty over the scope of maritime sovereignty. However, the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) does not explicitly regulate the mechanism for adjusting the baseline due to such permanent geographical changes. Based on these conditions. Methodology: This study uses normative juridical methods with a legislative, conceptual, and analytical approach to the practice and development of international law. Objective: This study aims to analyze whether and how state sovereignty over marine areas can be maintained when the geographical basis of determining the baseline changes due to climate change. Findings: The results of the analysis show that the application  of the concept of fixed baseline or historical baseline can be a relevant legal instrument to maintain stability, legal certainty, and sustainability of maritime sovereignty of archipelagic countries. Originality: The uniqueness of this research lies in the effort to reconstruct the concept of state sovereignty in international law of the sea through a non-ambulatory approach to the baseline as a normative response to climate change, by placing the interests of archipelagic countries such as Indonesia as the focus of the analysis.
