Abstract

This study analyzes the inclusive education policy in Surabaya and its impact on the performance of elementary school educators. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, then analyzed using source triangulation. The findings reveal that educators show strong commitment and apply various learning strategies to accommodate students with special needs. However, significant challenges persist, including limited facilities, a shortage of qualified personnel, and insufficient specialized training. In addition, factors such as high workload and social stigma hinder the effective implementation of inclusive education. Despite these obstacles, the policy demonstrates promising potential through systemic support, collaboration with parents, and the contribution of special assistant teachers. To achieve greater effectiveness, improvements in school infrastructure, continuous professional development, and more inclusive educational environments are essential. Strengthening stakeholder cooperation between schools, local governments, and communities will further enhance the sustainability and success of inclusive education in Surabaya.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of Wordwall-based educational game media on elementary students’ interest and critical thinking in mathematics learning. The research is motivated by the need for learning approaches that can enhance student engagement and foster higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). Digital platforms such as Wordwall provide opportunities for fun, contextual, and adaptive interactions aligned with the characteristics of mathematical content and students’ cognitive development. This study employs a systematic literature review of ten nationally indexed journal articles published between 2020 and 2024. The inclusion criteria focused on studies involving elementary school students, the use of Wordwall in mathematics learning, and outcomes related to learning interest or critical thinking. Exclusion criteria included articles lacking empirical data or those focusing on non-mathematical subjects. The results indicate that consistent use of Wordwall positively influences students’ learning interest, classroom participation, and critical thinking skills in understanding basic mathematical concepts. Interactive features such as quizzes, matching pairs, and random wheels encourage students to analyze, evaluate, and draw conclusions both independently and collaboratively. Furthermore, Wordwall has shown flexibility in supporting various learning strategies, including project-based learning, flipped classrooms, and differentiated instruction. In conclusion, the integration of Wordwall contributes to enhancing both cognitive and affective aspects of mathematics learning. Future research with experimental or mixed-method approaches is recommended to measure the real impact of Wordwall implementation in classroom contexts. Thus, Wordwall serves not only as a digital tool but as a strategic medium for fostering active and meaningful learning in the 21st century.

Abstract

This study presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on the integration of ethnomathematics in traditional Indonesian dance and its pedagogical potential within mathematics education. Ethnomathematics, as a cultural lens in mathematics, fosters meaningful learning by contextualizing abstract concepts through local knowledge systems. The objective of this review is to explore how traditional dance elements—such as floor patterns, body postures, rhythmic structures, and accessories—reflect mathematical ideas that are adaptable for classroom instruction. A total of ten peer-reviewed articles published between 2014 and 2024 were systematically analyzed based on inclusion criteria involving journal accreditation, mention of mathematical-cultural elements, and instructional integration. Findings indicate that various mathematical concepts, particularly in geometry, arithmetic, and transformation, are embedded in traditional dances like Tari Piring, Topeng Malangan, Gandrung, and Dolalak. These include angles, symmetry, rotation, reflection, coordinate geometry, as well as patterns related to Fibonacci sequences and fractals. The review also reveals the importance of teacher training, curriculum support, and interdisciplinary collaboration in ensuring the effective use of ethnomathematics in classrooms. This research underscores the significance of culturally responsive teaching in the Merdeka Curriculum and highlights traditional dance as a rich and underutilized resource for contextual mathematics learning. Integrating local culture into pedagogy not only enhances student engagement and understanding but also supports the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. However, given that only ten studies met the inclusion criteria over a ten-year span, this review acknowledges that the limited sample may not fully represent all existing research in the field. Further empirical investigations and broader database searches are therefore recommended to strengthen the findings and explore new perspectives on ethnomathematics in traditional arts.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies in the last five years (2021–2024) has transformed the nature and dynamics of bullying among elementary school students. Bullying, which was once limited to physical and verbal aggression in school environments, has now shifted and expanded into cyberspace through social media and instant messaging platforms. This study aims to systematically review recent empirical and conceptual studies to understand the trends, risk factors, protective measures, and practical strategies for addressing bullying in elementary education. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design, ten peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2024 were critically analyzed based on inclusion criteria covering relevance, credibility, and methodological rigor. The review found that the widespread availability of affordable smartphones and unsupervised internet access has escalated cyberbullying cases among young learners. Teachers remain key agents in building a safe school climate, yet their capacity must be supported by parental awareness and robust digital citizenship education. The findings also reveal that socio-emotional learning, empathy training, and technological monitoring tools are effective in mitigating bullying behaviors both offline and online. However, gaps persist in policy implementation, stakeholder synergy, and sustainable parental involvement. This study recommends that future anti-bullying programs integrate context-sensitive approaches that combine preventive education, ethical use of technology, and clear school-based regulations. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of the evolving bullying phenomenon and provide a practical reference for educators, policymakers, and researchers to develop comprehensive and adaptive strategies for fostering a bully-free learning environment in the digital age.

Abstract

The integration of digital media in education has become increasingly important in supporting interactive, engaging, and sustainable learning processes. This study presents a systematic literature review (SLR) of research on Wordwall applications in elementary Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning published between 2021 and 2025. Guided by the PRISMA protocol, 1,659 records were initially identified, of which 33 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. The review highlights three main findings. First, Wordwall-based interventions significantly improve student motivation, creativity, and conceptual understanding, making it a valuable tool for enhancing learning outcomes in elementary education. Second, bibliometric mapping reveals that the research landscape is growing steadily, with interdisciplinary linkages to education, computer science, and psychology, indicating its broad academic relevance. Third, challenges such as infrastructure gaps, teacher digital literacy, and the risk of overreliance on gamification remain critical obstacles to maximizing Wordwall’s potential. The thematic synthesis shows that creativity and motivational design are dominant research foci, reflecting global educational priorities toward 21st-century skills. However, limited exploration of long-term impacts and large-scale adoption indicates the need for further empirical investigation. This study contributes to the scholarly understanding of digital gamification in education by providing evidence-based insights into Wordwall’s effectiveness and limitations. It also emphasizes the importance of integrating Wordwall within holistic instructional frameworks rather than treating it as a stand-alone solution. Future directions are proposed to guide researchers, practitioners, and policy makers in strengthening Wordwall’s role as a sustainable innovation for improving IPAS learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of East Java Governor Regulation Number 38 of 2024 concerning Strategic Planning for Vocational Education and Vocational Training, specifically in strengthening teacher competency through the Continuous Professional Development Program (PKB) in Surabaya. The urgency of this study arises from the lack of empirical studies analyzing this latest regional regulation, even though this policy is crucial for ensuring teachers are adaptive to global industry needs. The method used is a qualitative study with a systematic literature review approach, using the Mazmanian & Sabatier implementation theory framework to evaluate policy documents, program reports, and related research. The main findings indicate that the policy implementation has been very effective and directed, driven by three key factors: a strong regulatory structure, active synergy between the Education Office and the industrial world (including PT PAL and PT INKA), and a high commitment from implementers. This effectiveness is measured by the PKB achievements, such as more than 500 vocational high school teachers participating in digital literacy training and the production of more than 250 scientific publications for teachers. A significant contribution of this study is the affirmation of a model for teacher competency development that is integrated between schools and industry demands. The implications require increased budgets to expand access to quality training and strengthen technological infrastructure to ensure the sustainability of PKB in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the level of internalization of PAGI character values (Caring, Trustworthy, Persistent, and Innovative) among students at Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya and to identify implementation challenges in the digital era. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, this research involved a survey of 524 students selected through random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire with 76 statement items that was tested for validity and reliability, yielding a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.960. The results show that the majority of students (76.13%) are in the "moderate" category for PAGI character internalization, while 12.35% are in the "high" category and 11.52% are in the "low" category. This finding indicates that although the PAGI character-building program has progressed well, further strengthening is still necessary. Deeper analysis reveals specific challenges, such as the influence of digital culture hindering the 'Caring' character, and passive learning patterns limiting the development of the 'Innovative' character. The 'Persistent' character was also identified as a significant weakness, with students' motivation to persevere when faced with failure remaining relatively low. This study concludes that a more intensive and integrated strategy for strengthening and socialization is required to deeply instill PAGI values and recommends a contextual approach that integrates these values into all aspects of campus life to produce graduates who are not only academically superior but also possess strong, adaptive characters to face future challenges.

Abstract

Teacher competency is the teacher's ability to direct the student learning process in the classroom. Teachers have an important role for students both in the classroom and outside the classroom, therefore teacher competence in teaching is very important. Competence is behavior that is reasonable in order to achieve goals that were previously adjusted due to existing conditions so that competence can be interpreted as a skill and ability. Teachers have an important role to guide students in the learning process. The teacher's ability to design effective learning strategies, understand students' individual needs, and present material in an interesting way can influence students' motivation to learn. In participating in the learning process, each student's motivation is different, some are high and some are low, in this case the teacher must influence student motivation externally to form students' internal motivation. The aim of this research is to analyze teacher competence to increase student learning motivation. The method used is a literature study which focuses on research on teacher competency to increase student learning motivation. The results of the literature review regarding teacher competence to improve student learning can be achieved by increasing the existing competence of each teacher so that this goal is achieved optimally
