Abstract

The literacy level of Indonesian students, as reported by PISA in 2018 and 2022, is considered low, falling below international standards. This situation contributes to learning difficulties and an increased risk of school dropouts. This study aims to analyze the role of story-stage-based guidance and counseling in enhancing the literacy culture in elementary schools. A qualitative approach was adopted, utilizing literature reviews and documentation techniques. The findings indicate that literacy is a fundamental element for students' personal development, both academically and socially, involving the acquisition and application of knowledge. Holistic guidance and counseling efforts are tailored to meet student's needs and are provided through counseling services. The story-stage method has proven to be an innovative and effective way to increase students' interest in literacy. It is recommended that this method be implemented in counseling services to strengthen the literacy culture in schools. Future research should focus on implementing and evaluating its effectiveness in broader educational contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic role of school administration in achieving stakeholder satisfaction at the Indonesian School of Riyadh, an international institution serving the Indonesian diaspora in Saudi Arabia. Given the multicultural student population and the demands of maintaining Indonesian cultural identity while adhering to international educational standards, effective school administration plays a pivotal role in creating a conducive learning environment that supports holistic student development. This research employed a qualitative case study approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews with 55 participants (10 administrators, 15 teachers, 20 parents, and 10 students), focus group discussions, and comprehensive document analysis. The study found that 87% of teachers and 85% of parents reported high satisfaction with administrative communication and transparency, while 80% of students expressed positive perceptions regarding fairness in administrative policies. The findings reveal that effective administrative practices, characterized by transparent communication, equitable policy implementation, and proactive problem-solving approaches, significantly contribute to enhanced satisfaction levels among students, parents, and teachers. The study demonstrates that inclusive and collaborative leadership by the principal strengthens positive school climate, increases stakeholder engagement, and builds sustainable trust within the educational community. Furthermore, the research highlights the critical importance of implementing multicultural approaches in administrative practices to ensure cultural diversity is valued and embraced, thereby creating an inclusive educational environment. However, the study identified specific areas requiring improvement, including expanding opportunities for teacher participation in collaborative planning processes and providing more frequent and detailed updates on student academic progress to parents. These findings provide valuable insights for international schools seeking to optimize administrative practices to enhance educational quality and achieve comprehensive stakeholder satisfaction in multicultural educational contexts.

Abstract

The role of Education and Cultural Attachés (Atdikbud) in managing Indonesian Schools Abroad (SILN) has become increasingly critical in maintaining educational quality for Indonesian citizens overseas. This study examines the strategic approaches employed by Atdikbud at the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh to enhance educational quality at Sekolah Indonesia Riyadh (SIR). This research aims to analyze the strategies implemented by Atdikbud in improving educational quality, identify challenges encountered, and explore solutions applied in managing SILN within a multicultural context. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with Atdikbud, school principals, teachers, and parent representatives at SIR, complemented by direct observations and document analysis. Data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman interactive model, incorporating data condensation, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification through triangulation. Findings reveal that Atdikbud implements five primary strategies: (1) policy harmonization between Indonesian and Saudi educational systems, (2) continuous professional development for educators, (3) infrastructure optimization through diplomatic channels, (4) cultural diplomacy integration in curriculum, and (5) stakeholder collaboration enhancement. Major challenges include resource limitations, cultural adaptation barriers, and bureaucratic complexities. Innovative solutions involve technology utilization, local community partnerships, and flexible policy implementation. In conclusion, atdikbud plays a pivotal strategic role in supporting Indonesian education abroad through adaptive leadership, cultural sensitivity, and diplomatic coordination. The study recommends strengthening inter-ministerial coordination, increasing resource allocation for SILN, and developing context-specific guidelines for educational diplomacy in multicultural settings.

Abstract

This study explores the process of positive self-acceptance among fatherless adolescents in Indonesia, a phenomenon that remains underexamined within the cultural and educational context. The research aims to understand how emotional regulation, coping strategies, and social support contribute to adolescents’ self-acceptance after experiencing the absence of a father due to death, divorce, or lack of involvement. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five students aged 15–18 from SMA Negeri 2 Purbalingga, along with guidance and counseling teachers as triangulation sources. The results reveal that self-acceptance among fatherless adolescents is a dynamic and contextual process characterized by four patterns: stable, fluctuating, struggling, and transformative. Emotional awareness, gratitude, and social relationships particularly maternal support and counselor involvement emerged as crucial factors in fostering resilience. These findings highlight that father absence does not always lead to maladjustment; instead, it may serve as a pathway for personal growth and emotional maturity when supported by relational and communal resources. This study contributes to the understanding of adolescent well-being within a collectivist culture and provides practical implications for school-based counseling programs emphasizing emotional literacy, self-compassion, and social connectedness.

Abstract

Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) in Hong Kong face significant psychological stress due to heavy workloads, social isolation, and cultural adaptation pressures. Limited access to mental health services exacerbates this condition. This community service program aims to improve the stress management skills of Indonesian migrant workers through the Mindfulness-Based Stress Approach (MBSA) CR8+. The program was implemented comprehensively with a training design using a participatory and educational approach that was oriented towards increasing individual capacity in managing stress through mindfulness techniques. This training was attended by 200 participants.. The intervention included online training (Zoom and Google Classroom) and offline training in Hong Kong, with the MBSA CR8+ module covering mindfulness techniques, progressive relaxation, emotion regulation, and guided breathing. Pre-test results showed that 45% of participants experienced high stress and 40% experienced moderate stress, with the dominant complaints being heavy workloads (55%) and limited rest time (48%). Post-test results showed a decrease in physical symptoms (40% to 35%) and negative emotions (30% to 25%), as well as a significant increase in positive coping strategies from 10% to 20%. The MBSA CR8+ approach has been proven effective in increasing self-awareness and stress regulation in Indonesian migrant workers. This model has potential for replication in migrant worker communities in other countries. This program produces a mindfulness-based training module that can be sustainably adopted by community partners.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the language barriers experienced by Indonesian diaspora children in Mindanao in learning Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) from a neuropsycholinguistic perspective by identifying the forms of decline in Indonesian language competence and the neurocognitive factors influenced by a multilingual environment. The study employed a qualitative approach using a Research and Development (R&D) design based on the 4D model, with a particular focus on the define stage. The research subjects consisted of seven students and two teachers at the Indonesian School of Davao, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis and were analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the language barriers experienced by the participants included difficulties in syntactic structure, tense usage, language registers, and code-mixing caused by interference from Visayan and Tagalog. Contrastive analysis revealed that differences in sentence patterns (S-V-O vs. V-S-O) and grammatical systems were the primary sources of errors. From a neuropsycholinguistic perspective, these barriers were associated with limitations in working memory, attention, and lexical representation, which were influenced by limited exposure to the Indonesian language. The findings also showed that the students’ receptive and expressive language abilities remained limited, particularly in command comprehension, vocabulary mastery, and verbal memory. This study contributes theoretically to the enrichment of neuropsycholinguistic studies in the context of diaspora children and language learning. Practically, the findings provide a foundation for designing BIPA instruction that is adaptive, contextual, and aligned with learners’ neurocognitive characteristics.

Abstract

This article aims to summarize the empirical evidence on the effects of mindful play interventions on self-regulation, executive function, social competence, and conflict resolution in children aged 4–6 years, and to assess their relevance to the development of Early Childhood Guidance and Counseling (BK PAUD) services. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, 36 articles from Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar were analyzed through thematic synthesis. The results showed that mindful play consistently improved emotion management skills, impulse control, cognitive flexibility, empathy, and conflict resolution strategies. Teacher and parent support play a significant role in strengthening the effectiveness of interventions. These findings provide a conceptual and empirical basis for developing Mindful Play Counseling as an evidence-based BK PAUD service model. Theoretical, practical, and policy implications are discussed to strengthen the implementation of mindful play in early childhood education. Keywords: conflict resolution, early childhood education, executive functions, mindful play, self-regulation
