Abstract

The emphasis of educational instruction has shifted from teaching to learning where the role of teachers is not knowledge transmitters but the facilitators, knowledge navigators, and co-learners. Advanced technologies have a place in the shifting of teacher roles, for example the Internet technology which enables online learning to be held to enhance the teacher roles in facilitating learning. Online learning integrated into face-to-face learning which is called blended learning is believed to be more beneficial than online learning or face-to-face learning alone. However, despite the substantial benefits of blended learning frequently mentioned, teachers are still reluctant in implementing blended learning in their practices. This literature study reviews several papers studying the potentials and challenges of blended learning using Schoology as an online learning platform. The purpose of the study is to find out the potentials and the challenges of blended learning using Schoology. It is expected that the findings will raise teacher awareness about the importance of bringing technologies in their practices, encourage teachers to utilize online learning platforms such as Schoology in blended learning environment, and draw attention of education practitioners and any relevant parties to participate in addressing the challenges of blended learning to improve students‟ learning experiences.

Abstract

Background: Zinc is the main constituent element of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) which acts to protect cells from inflammation and the toxic effects of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). High ROS production induces fat peroxidation, and forms malondialdehyde (MDA) which causes oxidative stress. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the difference of zinc and malondialdehyde levels among Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis and sensitive Tuberculosis. Methods: Crossectional study with 55 subjects consisted of 32 MDR-TB subjects and 23 subjects TB sensitive. Selection of subjects using consecutive sampling. Zinc and MDA serum was obtained from venous blood. Zinc and MDA concentration were assessed by quantitative colometric and Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARS) respectively. Data were analized statistic by independent t-test and Mann Whitney test. Results: Zinc level of MDR-TB and TB sensitive were 74.85 (64 - 97) μg/dl and 73.03 (63 - 97) μg/dl respectively, while MDA of MDR-TB and sensitive TB were 2.262±1.055 nmol/mL and 2.66±0.992 nmol/mL. There was no significantly different in zinc level between MDR-TB and sensitive TB (p=1.000). Furthermore, there was not significantly different of MDA level between MDR-TB and sensitive Tuberculosis (p=0,147).Conclusion: There are no differences in zinc and MDA levels in patient between MDR-TB and sensitive TB.

Abstract

AbstractDisease is a physical dimension which is often responded subjectively by the affected individual. The interaction among biological, psychological, and social dimensions of illness can influence the illness cognition of the affected individual. This also applied to individual who suffers from a chronic illness. This study aims to describe the meaning of illness in view of patients with chronic illness. A qualitative phenomenological method was used in this study. Three subjects suffer from a coronary heart disease more than a year participated in this study. In depth interviews and field notes were used to collect data. The results showed that subjects perceived their illness differently. Subject I perceived illness as a test; Subject II perceived illness as a reminder of own weakness; whereas Subject III perceived illness as a warning, absolution, and feeling to be loved by others. The core meaning found in this study is that persons who are able to give meaning to their illness have their optimism for recovery. It can be concluded that illness is a physical as well as a psychological condition; individual respond to symptom of illness differently; and meaning given to illness is subject to change due to the affected person’s situation.

Abstract

Generally, distress which followed by psychiatric disorders still become a medicinal practice controversial especially psychologically stressor roles on holistic health condition. Therefore, research is needed to explain and clarify the influences and the role of psychologically stressors on psychiatric disorders. This study used an psychoneuroimmunologic paradigm, which used posttest-only true experiment  design. About 24 female Rattus norvegicus strain  Wistar had been used, divided into six groups. To investigate functional changes, we used hippocampus SERT distribution  changes as mirror of central serotonergic malfunction changes. The structural changes was measured by apoptosis index of hippocampus CA3 regions (hippocampus slicing). We also took the blood from the rats heart to examine  IL ? 6 and cortisol level. Psychological stressors lead to measuring of functional and structural changes include hippocampus SERT distribution and increase hippocampus apoptotic index, that finally arise the distress. These results of statistical analyses demonstrate that psychological stressors seem to be mediated by serotonergic neurotransmission pathway. Key words :hippocampus CA3 region, SERT malfunction, IL-6, cortisol, psychological stressors
