The study aimed at improving students’ algebraic thinking ability in the eighth-grade junior high school student through multiple representation strategies using realistic approach. The multiple representation strategies consist of orientation, exploration, internalization, and evaluation. This is a quasi-experimental study with nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this study was the student the eighth grade in Kudus city. Two classes were selected and classified as a class experiment that subject are given multiple representation strategies using realistic approach, and one other class as a control class that subjects are given scientific approach. Data obtained was analyzed by the independent t-test and proportions test. The result showed that there was an interaction between the multiple representation strategies using the realistic approach on the ability of algebraic thinking. The students with multiple representation strategies had better algebraic thinking ability than those with current scientific learning. In addition, more than seventy-five percent of the students with multiple representation strategies using realistic approach fulfill the learning completeness.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the flow of thought of the pre-service mathematics teachers through the answers of a function limit evaluation by formal definition. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive method. The research subjects were the students of mathematics education department of Universitas Serang Raya, Indonesia. After analyzing the students’ written answers, we interviewed the subjects to get further explanation on their strategies and common mistakes. This study found that based on the students’ results in the function limit evaluation by formal definition, there were common strategies, i.e. (1) preparing the proof and (2) proving. The stage of preparing the proof consisted of (1) determining delta value by the final statement of formal definition, (2) substituting the given f(x) and L process, (3) simplifying value in the absolute sign, (4) solving the inequality, and (5) finding the delta value. The stage of proving consisted of (1) stating positive epsilon, (2) defining delta, (3) stating positive delta, (4) substituting the constants and delta values in the initial statement of formal definition, and (5) solving the inequality to create the final inequality statement of the formal definition.

The problem that arises in teaching mathematics in the time of the covid-19 pandemic needs to be a concern. Learning is not only the responsibility of the teacher, the role of parents very important in helping students do online learning. This research was conducted to look at the obstacles faced by elementary school teachers while doing online math learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Furthermore, this study reveals what factors can be inhibited or support the process of learning mathematics during the COVID-19 pandemic. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive by providing questionnaires and conducting interviews. The subject of this study was an elementary school teacher in the dukupuntang sub-district of the Cirebon regency. The results of this study show that in general elementary school teachers are not ready to do digital learning. Another obstacle that hinders the learning process is the lack of understanding of teachers and students regarding the use of distance learning applications. So, the government support that has helped ease the burden of internet quotas by subsidizing free quotas to teachers, students and the availability of Wi-Fi in some areas does not seem to be able to maximize used to for online learning.
