Abstract

Teachers’ professional competence is an important determinant of the quality of education and student achievement. In the Indonesian context, school principals play an important role as instructional leaders, facilitators, and supervisors in strengthening teachers’ professional capacity. This qualitative descriptive study aims to explore the role of school principals in improving the professional competence of teachers at SD Negeri 2 Benua, South Konawe Regency. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, involving principals, teachers, and school supervisors. These findings reveal that principals use three key strategies: (1) providing ongoing professional development through workshops and internal training, (2) strengthening collegial collaboration through teacher working groups and peer coaching, and (3) implementing instructional supervision to ensure the quality of teaching. These efforts contribute to a significant improvement in teachers’ mastery of subject matter, pedagogical skills, and classroom management. The study concludes that effective principal leadership practices are essential in promoting sustainable teacher professional competence in primary schools.

Abstract

Breast cancer patients with low resilience may experience adverse psychological outcomes, including stress, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and difficulties in recovery. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of various interventions in improving resilience among breast cancer patients and to provide practical guidance for healthcare practitioners in implementing these interventions. Following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and PICOS framework, a comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2018-2024. Two independent reviewers screened eligible studies in two stages (title/abstract and full-text). The methodological quality of included studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tool. A total of 20 studies met the inclusion criteria. Interventions identified include music therapy, mindfulness, family and social support programs, cognitive behavioral therapy, digital-based interventions, and psychoeducation. Most interventions demonstrated a significant positive impact on patients’ psychological resilience, coping ability, and quality of life. Evidence suggests that resilience-focused interventions can be effectively integrated into supportive care for breast cancer patients. Healthcare practitioners should consider incorporating these strategies to address psychosocial needs. Further studies are recommended to evaluate long-term impacts and cost-effectiveness in diverse settings.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) prevention behavior is essential for reducing DM incidence among adolescents, a population increasingly exposed to lifestyle risks and heavily engaged with digital platforms. Social media provides a promising channel for health promotion, yet limited evidence explains how literacy in this medium supports preventive behaviors. This study aims to analyze the correlation between social media literacy and intention with DM prevention behavior among adolescent students. A cross-sectional design with purposive sampling was conducted involving 231 students aged 16 years in East Java, Indonesia. Data were collected using questionnaires measuring social media literacy, intention, and DM prevention behavior, while Spearman’s rho correlation <0.05 was applied for analysis. Descriptive findings showed that 58% of participants were female, 67.1% used more than three social media platforms, 39% accessed social media 3–4 hours daily, and 4.3% had a family history of DM. The analysis revealed significant positive correlations between social media literacy (p<0.001, r=0.325) and intention (p<0.001; r=0.305) with DM prevention behavior. Adolescents with higher literacy and stronger intentions were more likely to exhibit proactive DM prevention actions. These results demonstrate that emerging technologies, particularly social media, hold substantial potential as promotive and preventive tools for adolescent health. Enhancing social media literacy can improve adolescents’ ability to identify, interpret, and apply credible health information, supporting healthier behavioral choices. The study suggests that integrating digital health literacy into adolescent-focused programs may strengthen early preventive efforts and reduce future DM risk.

Abstract

Background: Discharge planning is one way in which leadership styles can motivate nurses to up their game and provide better care to patients. Examining how a servant leadership style affects the success of discharge planning initiatives is the primary goal of this study. Methods: The initial part of this mixed-method study involved doing qualitative research using an exploratory descriptive methodology with seven participants at Surabaya's Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital. Research using quantitative methods and a quasi-experimental design is the second phase. Using a purposeful sampling technique, 114 nurses from the inpatient population at Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital Surabaya participated in the study. Of this, 57 were assigned to the intervention group and 57 to the control group. Results: The first stage of the study produced a servant leadership module for the head of the room. In the second stage, based on the paired sample t-test, there was an effect after the intervention was given while entering the hospital (ρ = 0.000), during treatment (ρ = 0.000), and before leaving the hospital (ρ = 0.000). In the independent sample t-test, there was a significant difference in the post-test mean between the intervention and control groups during entering the hospital (ρ = 0.000), during treatment (ρ = 0.000), and before leaving the hospital (ρ = 0.000) on the performance results of the discharge plan. Conclusion: The ward head at Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital Surabaya can use the servant leadership module and intervention to improve the performance of discharge planning from the time a patient enters the hospital to the time they leave.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of social welfare policy for older persons carried out by the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for Elderly Social Welfare in Kupang and to identify the factors that hinder its implementation. The study applies Grindle’s policy implementation framework, which emphasizes two key dimensions: policy content and policy context. A qualitative research approach was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were obtained from nine purposively selected informants and relevant policy-related documents. The findings indicate that the implementation of the elderly social welfare policy has been carried out but has not yet been optimal. Based on Grindle’s analytical model, several issues were identified, including the relevance of service programs, the recruitment process of implementers, budget allocation and efficiency, and the capacity of human resources. These findings imply the need for policy evaluation and the strengthening of implementation governance through needs-based program adjustments, improved resource management, and capacity building of implementers to ensure that policy objectives are achieved more effectively and sustainably.
