Abstract

More than two-thirds of the world's population rely on rice or wheat as staple foods, which are grown in various Asian countries. Diseases affecting rice leaves can disrupt growth, reduce yields, and cause famine in some areas. Therefore, a quick and accurate recognition method is necessary to minimize losses. This article focuses on eight types of rice leaf diseases using data consisting of approximately 110 images for each disease type, with enhanced image quality to achieve better results. The study applies a convolutional neural network (CNN) model integrated into an Android mobile application, achieving a training accuracy of 86.56% and a validation accuracy of 93.75%. Comparative experiments demonstrate that the model can be effectively implemented in mobile applications for accurately detecting rice leaf diseases, providing a reliable solution for field detection. This method not only helps farmers identify diseases more quickly but also has the potential to reduce crop losses caused by leaf diseases.

Abstract

Speaking anxiety can impair nursing students’ ability to communicate effectively in English, especially in academic and clinical settings. This study examines the relationship between speaking anxiety levels and speaking performance among nursing students within a genre-based framework. The research was conducted at a private university in West Sumatra, Indonesia, involving all 33 third-year nursing students through total sampling. Using a quantitative one-group pretest–posttest design, data were collected with the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) and speaking performance tests, then analyzed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation via SPSS 21. The results showed a weak positive but non-significant correlation between speaking performance and overall anxiety levels (r = 0.196, p = 0.309). Further analysis by anxiety categories revealed: (1) a very weak, non-significant correlation among students with high anxiety (r = 0.094, p = 0.772; n = 12); (2) a very weak, negative, non-significant correlation among students with moderate anxiety (r = –0.141, p = 0.698; n = 10); and (3) a moderate, but non-significant, positive correlation among students with low anxiety (r = 0.549, p = 0.202; n = 7). These findings suggest that, although some patterns are identifiable, speaking anxiety does not consistently or significantly impact students’ speaking performance. The study emphasizes the importance of considering individual differences in anxiety when developing genre-based speaking instruction for nursing education.

Abstract

Writing Assessment Literacy (WAL) is an essential competency for English lecturers in higher education, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts such as Indonesia, where cultural and pedagogical traditions often shape assessment practices. Despite growing attention to assessment literacy, limited research has explored how different WAL levels relate to students’ learning experiences and writing performance. This study addresses that gap by examining how lecturers’ WAL influences student outcomes in Indonesian universities. Using a sequential mixed-methods design, Phase 1 involved 24 EFL lecturers who completed a Writing Assessment Literacy Test. Results identified three WAL groups: Excellent (50%), Good (29.2%), and Low (20.8%). One lecturer from each group was selected for Phase 2, along with their respective student cohorts (n = 66). Data sources included student responses to an Assessment Experience Questionnaire, writing samples evaluated with a standardized rubric, and statistical analyses using Kruskal-Wallis tests and Spearman rank correlations. Findings revealed significant differences in student learning experiences across groups (K = 40.791, p < 0.0001, η = 0.616), with the Low WAL group reporting the highest learning scores. In contrast, the Good WAL group achieved the highest writing performance (K = 6.531, p = 0.038, η = 0.0719), suggesting a possible “optimal zone” of assessment practice. Strong positive correlations were found between student learning and writing outcomes (ρ = 0.63–0.84, p < 0.05). These findings indicate that WAL influences student outcomes, but not in a strictly linear way, emphasizing the need for context-aware and pedagogically responsive assessment literacy development.

Abstract

Rapid global change and the demands of 21st-century education have created an urgent need to develop students’ higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), critical, creative, and problem-solving abilities, yet evidence on how flipped learning (FL) supports these skills remains fragmented. This systematic literature review addresses that gap by synthesizing recent studies (2021–2025) on the impact of FL on HOTS across formal education levels and diverse cultural contexts, with particular attention to implications for sustainable education. Following PRISMA guidelines, 32 peer-reviewed empirical studies were identified from Scopus, ERIC, and ProQuest using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Methodological quality was appraised using a simplified CASP checklist, and inductive thematic synthesis was employed to identify patterns in pedagogy, technology use, and HOTS outcomes. Findings indicate that FL can enhance cognitive engagement, learner autonomy, and performance when integrated with inquiry-based and collaborative strategies; critical thinking often improved through structured argumentation, creativity through project-based and digital tasks, and problem-solving through real-world, team-based learning. However, effects varied by discipline, education level, and contextual factors such as digital readiness and instructional design quality; several studies reported minimal gains in low-tech or weakly scaffolded settings. These results underscore FL’s potential as a sustainable pedagogical framework that optimizes resources and fosters lifelong learning, but also highlight gaps: most studies were small-scale, quasi-experimental, and lacked longitudinal or cross-cultural comparison. Future research should adopt more rigorous, context-sensitive designs and explore how FL compares with other active learning models to inform curriculum and teacher training policies.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The objective of this study is his study ims to evaluate the effectiveness of Raz-Kids in improving students’ reading skills and investigate the effect of Raz-Kids on students during a reading program. Methodology: The method implemented in this study was Systematic Literature Review (SLR). There were 16 papers on implementing Raz-Kids in teaching reading from Google Scholar, SINTA, Science Direct, and ERIC. The step in writing this scientific work is to find the sources of previous studies, examine them, and make conclusions based on the subject of the study. Main Findings: The result showed that Raz-Kids is an effective internet portal that helps students develop reading skills. It also supports students’ enthusiasm and independent learning in reading. The parents and teachers act as support systems to encourage them to achieve their reading goals. However, there are many challenges with Raz-Kids’ use in reading programs. It highlights the need for this portal to be enhanced. Thus, Raz-Kids is a valuable online resource that helps learners develop their reading skills. Novelty/Originality of this study: This review mainly focused on implementing specific internet portals, namely Raz-kids, in teaching reading in EFL Classes. It aims to develop the knowledge of researchers, educators, policymakers, and technology developers concerning the crucial internet portal Raz-Kids in teaching reading and its effect on students’ outcomes.

Abstract

The integration of social media platforms into educational practices has become increasingly prevalent, offering innovative ways to enhance language learning. This study explores the role of Instagram in enhancing students' English competence, focusing on its effectiveness in developing vocabulary and listening skills. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research involved ten senior high school students as participants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews to gain in-depth insight into their experiences. Findings suggest that Instagram's multimodal features, including captions, videos, and interactive elements, create an engaging and accessible learning environment that encourages language acquisition. While receptive skills showed noticeable improvement, writing and speaking proficiency appeared to require more structured and intentional practice. The study highlights the importance of active engagement in digital learning spaces to maximize Instagram’s potential for holistic language development. This research is particularly useful in the fields of educational technology, language education, and digital pedagogy, offering practical implications for integrating social media platforms into formal language instruction to support comprehensive language skill development. Future research could further explore strategies to maximize Instagram's potential in these areas.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media wordwall dalam meningkatkan keaksaraan awal mengenal huruf di TKIT Tsabita Bogor. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan guru dan observasi terhadap siswa, ditemukan bahwa penggunaan media pembelajaran inovatif masih kurang dan siswa terlihat pasif serta kurang termotivasi dalam belajar. Penelitian ini menggunakan model ASSURE yang diintegrasikan dengan model Borg and Gall. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari 15 siswa kelas B di TKIT Tsabita Bogor. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan perhitungan N-Gain. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan tes unjuk kerja. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data, hasil uji kelayakan dari ahli materi diperoleh angka sebesar 98%, ahli desain instruksional 98%, ahli desain media sebesar 89%. Hasil pengujian efektivitas menggunakan rumus N-Gain Score, didapat hasil sebesar 0,86 dengan kategori tinggi dan konversi tingkat pencapaian adalah cukup efektif. dengan demikian, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan media wordwall berbasis game edukasi untuk meningkatkan keaksaraan awal mengenal huruf anak usia 5-6 tahun TKIT Tsabita Bogor sangat layak dan efektif untuk digunakan.

Abstract

Kesenian rakyat Topeng Banjet Sinar Pusaka Warna menjadi salah satu seni temurun masih bertahan dalam tradisi budaya masyarakat Karawang, terbukti masih ada dan berkembang, selain berfungsi hiburan juga pendidikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran seni pertunjukan tersebut dalam membentuk identitas kultural masyarakat serta kontribusinya terhadap pendidikan seni. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif analitis dengan teknik observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis melalui reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan guna memperoleh gambaran menyeluruh tentang nilai budaya dan edukatif yang terkandung dalam pertunjukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Topeng Banjet tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai media ekspresi estetis, tetapi juga sebagai sarana pewarisan nilai-nilai moral, gotong royong, serta identitas lokal. Selain itu, praktik kesenian ini mengandung potensi pedagogis yang relevan dengan pendidikan seni di sekolah, terutama dalam aspek apresiasi budaya, ekspresi kreatif, dan pembentukan karakter. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa integrasi seni tradisional ke dalam pembelajaran formal dapat memperkuat jati diri kultural generasi muda sekaligus menumbuhkan sensitivitas estetis yang berakar pada kearifan lokal.

Abstract

Prinsip proporsionalitas merupakan salah satu pilar utama dalam hukum humaniter internasional yang mengatur perilaku dalam konflik bersenjata. Artikel ini menganalisis implementasi prinsip proporsionalitas dengan membandingkan dua konflik berbeda era: Perang Dunia II (1939-1945) dan Konflik Rusia-Ukraina (2014-sekarang). Menggunakan metode kajian literatur komprehensif, penelitian ini mengevaluasi bagaimana interpretasi dan penerapan prinsip proporsionalitas berevolusi dari konflik konvensional berskala besar ke konflik kontemporer yang lebih kompleks. Temuan menunjukkan pergeseran signifikan dalam penerapan prinsip proporsionalitas, dipengaruhi oleh perubahan teknologi persenjataan, peran media dan opini publik, serta perkembangan kerangka hukum internasional. Studi ini mengidentifikasi bahwa meskipun terdapat kemajuan dalam kodifikasi hukum humaniter, tantangan dalam implementasi proporsionalitas tetap persisten, khususnya dalam konflik asimetris dan hibrid seperti yang terjadi di Ukraina. Abstract

Innovative systems are changing modern language education from teaching and assessment to pedagogical strategies. This study explored the extent to which Learning Management Systems (LMS), Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) environments, and digital assessment tools impacted the organization and assessment of language programs. A qualitative research approach was utilized, and data was collected from forty participants (educators, learners, and administrators) through semi-structured interviews, anonymized surveys, and document analysis. Feedback from participants indicates that while organizational features of LMS platforms are one of the most utilized components, they are also highly effective (85%) for organizing course materials and communication. CALL tools provide interactive and personalized learning experiences (rated at 78%) but require better teacher training and technical know-how. Digital assessment tools are efficient (65%) for assessing language skills, but face challenges with evaluating nuanced language skills, such as fluency and creativity. The text emphasizes the importance of hybrid assessment methods that blend automated feedback with human input. Despite challenges like software issues, hardware access, and limited training, technology has enhanced learning and teaching. The study calls for thoughtful integration, continuous instructional design, and stronger teacher training, alongside improvements in infrastructure to support a more flexible, student-centred education system.
