Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the semantic meaning in fukugoudoushi verb yoru (寄る) contained in Japanese sentences and to find out the type of words that follow and are followed by the verb yoru (寄る). The reason behind this study is because the vocabulary of toshiyoru has the meaning of aging, even though when viewed from the word that makes up the vocabulary, namely the word yoru (寄る) based on the dictionary of kokugo jiten, it does not have an element of the meaning of aging. This research data analysis technique uses the agih method. The study used data found from the novel Hidamari no Kanojo and the online site called Naver Matome. Based on the results of the analysis from 22 data it found, five data that have ordinary nouns, i-adjectives is one data. Then, based on 16 verb data is it found six data with the type keizokusei no doushi, five data with the type joutai no doushi, three data with shunkansei no doushi type and one data with jidoushi type. Then, there are six meanings which is three data that shows the meaning of “leaning”, 13 data that shows the meaning of “approaching” ,one data that shows the meaning of “stopping by”, two data that shows the meaning “gathering”, two data that shows the meaning “dropping the opponent to the outside of the arena in a sumo match”, and two data that shows the meaning “multiply”. It can be seen that the meaning of closer is found more in Japanese sentences.

Abstract

This research is a study of the implicatures in the Yotsuba&!, a comic book by Kiyohiko Azuma on the volume 1-3. The purpose of this study is to describe the violation of maxims that occur in implicature utterances and classify the types of implicatures found based on the cooperative principle theory proposed by Grice (1975) and the classification of implicatures according to Yule (2014). The data were analyzed by using a qualitative descriptive method. As a result of the study it is found that there are as many as 20 violation of maxims data and 24 implicature data.

Abstract

Japan is a nation that pays great attention to politeness, especially when speaking. This can be seen from the special form in expressing politeness and respect. In Japanese it is termed keigo. Keigo is a variety of respectful language used in Japanese and is one of the characteristics of the Japanese language. In general, keigo is divided into three types, namely sonkeigo, kenjougo, and teineigo. This study discusses the comprehension of keigo in terms of function, meaning, and form in class 2019 students of the Japanese Language Education Study Program, FKIP University of Riau. The purpose of this study was to find out how the understanding of keigo in class 2019 students was. The method used in this study was descriptive quantitative. The results of this study indicate that the students' understanding of the class of 2019 towards keigo as a whole is in the low category, apart from the lack of student understanding of keigo, the period of time from receiving material about keigo with the research time is quite far so it can be concluded that students have limitations in remembering the material.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to produce an interactive prototype of an Android-based e-module and to find out the opinions of experts and students regarding the prototype. This multi-year research was carried out to answer the needs of students in obtaining and accessing learning material that is easier, cheaper, and not only has practical value but also flexibility value. The research can be a reference in developing 21st Century skills-based Japanese learning media. The first year of research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The research took place from March to December 2021. Research’s sample was 21 students of Bunpou I, 2 media experts and 2 content experts. The results showed that this prototype got a score of 3.52 with category ‘very good’ for the content. It got 3.1 score for media display which is in category ‘good’. The results also showed that there are several notes for improving e-modules such as adding more interesting illustrations, improving forms and evaluation scores, improving user interfaces, adding sample sentences to reducing dependence on hyperlinks in the network. Most of the respondents liked this e-module and found it helpful in understanding basic level of Japanese easily. Bright color display makes learning less boring. The existence of videos, and exercises with a score system can also help increase learning motivation.

Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of this paper is to find out the meaning and function of the adverb doumo (どうも) in Japanese comics. This is motivated because the word doumo (どうも) when translated has several meanings and several functions in Japanese sentences. The meaning and function of the adverb doumo in comics is analyzed based on the theory put forward by Nakamichi (1991) in Koike, Tobita and Asada (1994) in Koike, and Mulya (2013). The method used in making this paper is descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study show that all the adverb functions doumo (どうも) appear in the comic except for the interjection function (どうもね). Meanwhile, the meaning and function of the adverb doumo (どうも) is determined based on the context of the sentence. From the results of the analysis, the most frequent meanings and functions of doumo (どうも) are expressing gratitude, expressing apologies, expressing indifference and as a casual expression of greeting.

Abstract

This research aims to discover how well are acquisition of Kanji among new students of the State University of Jakarta’s Japanese Language Education Study Program and how motivation, self-confidence, and anxiety affect it. Based on a preliminary study held, Kanji is regarded to be the most difficult part to master in Japanese. Thus, the focus of this research will be about the acquisition of Kanji. This research uses a case study method and will acquire data through interviews and documentations on five students who have never previously learned Japanese. Results show only one student has undergone the proses of acquiring Kanji before entering the Japanese Langauge Education Study Program. Furthermore, looking at the students’ learning process, it is known that three use only textbooks, while two use other sources for studying. Viewing from the aspect of factors that affect language acquisition, one student has motivation, self-confidence, and does not have anxiety. While the other four students have motivation, but does not have self-confidence, and has anxiety. It is also known from their grades that all five students have above average scores in Kanji, thus it can be concluded that motivation has a bigger role compared to self-confidence and anxiety.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how to build students' 21st century communication and collaboration skills through the use of the Dokusaku I textbook "Nobinobi Yomikaki". The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic which affected learning activities greatly affected the skills of students. Meanwhile, the demand for skills in surviving the challenges of 21st century life is increasing rapidly. This is the background of this research, therefore the researcher conducts research on the formation of 21st century skills in students through textbooks that have been developed according to 21st century skills. The analysis in this study refers to the criteria for aspects of communication and collaboration skills put forward by Fadel and Triling, also based on the theory of communication and collaboration skills approach by Masukawa. The method used is observation and documentation, while the analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative. The findings from this study are the formation of communication and collaboration skills using the Dokusaku I textbook "Nobinobi Yomikaki". Communication and collaboration skills most often occur in the hanashiaimashou (let's discuss) sub-chapter, because this sub-chapter contains all the indicators of both skills. Not just talking, but fulfilling the essential criteria of communication and collaboration skills.

Abstract

This research is to find out about the implicature with elements of rejection in the Japanese drama Dear Sister. The problems in this research are about the implied meaning of the rejection speech contained in the Japanese drama Dear Sister and classify the types of implicature in the Japanese drama Dear Sister using Grice's theory. This research is descriptive with qualitative approach. The methods used in this analysis are listening and note-taking methods. The data source used in this research is the Japanese drama series Dear Sister with a total of 10 episodes. From the results, 20 data were found with 8 meanings of rejection, namely the meaning of rejection of offers, gifts, orders, requests or requests, statements, invitations, suggestions, and praise. As for the results of the 20 data that the author has examined, the type of implicature that often appears is the conventional type of implicature, with the results of the conventional type of implicature as much as 14 data, while the unconventional type of implicature is 6 data. In this study, the data with the type of nonconventional implicature also contained violation of the maxim of relevance, violation of the maxim of manner, violation of the maxim of quality, compliance with the maxim of relevance, and compliance with the maxim of quality.

Abstract

This research discusses the influence of using the website "tanoshiijapanese.com on the ability to master kanji. At the beginning of 2020 a virus emerged that shocked the whole world, namely the corona virus. This virus first appeared in the city of Wuhan, China in December 2019. However, this virus quickly spread throughout the world and attacked all lines or sectors, such as: Education, economy, health, trade and others. One of the sectors that is greatly affected by this virus is education. This sector is one of the toughest apart from the health sector. Because more and more people are being exposed to this virus, all heads of state around the world are changing the learning system from face-to-face to online. The formulation of the problem in this research is: (1) Can the use of the website "tanoshiijapanese.com" improve students' writing skills during distance learning?, (2) Can the use of the website "tanoshiijapanese.com" improve students' writing skills during learning? remotely? The objectives of this research include: (1) Does the website "tanoshiijapanese.com" improve your ability to write kanji during distance learning? (2) Do you know that the website "tanoshiijapanse.com" can improve your ability to read kanji during distance learning? The research method used in this research is quantitative desktop, the population and sample in this research are 22 students from the Japanese language and culture study program at Darma Persada University, Jakarta. From this research, the results were obtained that the website "tanoshiijapanese.com" can improve writing and reading skills during online/distance learning.

Abstract

The term "Gyaru" refers to a group of Japanese women who are distinguished by their unique fashion style, as well as their language, which is known as "Gyarugo." Gyarugo is one of the pioneers of the term wakamono kotoba, which is frequently employed by young Japanese people. This study aims to explain the use of gyarugo in the manga 'My Dress Up Darling', which focuses on the main heroine Marin Kitagawa, which is reviewed based on the formation of wakamono kotoba theory Yonekawa (1996). The data source for this study is volume 1 (chapters 1 to 7) of the manga My Dress Up Darling by Shinichi Fukuda, published in the Young Gangan manga magazine on 19 January 2018. The research method employed in this study is qualitative, while the technique utilised is that of listening and note-taking. The results obtained are the use of 48 gyarugo, as expressed by Marin Kitagawa, which consists of 4 Shakuyou, 39 Shouryaku, 1 Touchi, 5 and Doushi no hasei.
